He graduated from USC in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree. He obtained a direct commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Air Corps upon graduation. He was sent to attend graduate school in Cambridge, Massachusetts at both Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He began work at the Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratory (AFCRL) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. While in the Boston area he met his future wife, Dorothy Bangs. They were at the Coconut Grove nightclub just a short time prior to the famous fire there that killed so many people. He later worked at AVCO, Sylvania, Parametrics Industries which he founded with others from Sylvania, including Appollo Bougas, George Edmundson, et al, and later Raytheon. He built a house on Old Road to Nine Acre Corner, Concord, Massachusetts around 1949 to 1952. He later purchased an older Victorian home at 60 Hubbard Street, Concord.
