Intro to lesson

Draw a pit on the board with somebody at the bottom. How can this person
be saved? Have someone come up to the board and add to the drawing.
How does that apply to grace?
Maybe it would be easier to apply this picture to grace if we knew
what grace was? What do you think grace means and what is grace?
With that definition how do you see grace in their own lives?

What is Grace?
Grace Defined
The main idea of the word is divine means of help or strength, given
through the bounteous mercy and love of Jesus Christ. It is made possible
by His atoning sacrifice, that mankind will be raised in immortality, every
person receiving his body from the grave in a condition of everlasting life.
It is likewise through grace that individuals may use the Atonement. It
also enables us to receive strength and assistance to do good works that
they otherwise would not be able to maintain if left to their own means.
This grace is an enabling power that allows men and women to lay hold on
eternal life and exaltation after they have expended their own best
efforts. Grace is needed by every soul in consequence of the Fall of Adam
and also because of man’s weaknesses and shortcomings. However, grace
cannot suffice without total effort on the part of the recipient.
With this definition do you think there are different experiences that
come to mind with this definition then with the definition we had earlier?

Branches and Vines
Take turns reading john 15:1-10.
We will now read John 15: 1-10? Choose someone to start.
John 15:1-10
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every
branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself,
except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him,
the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered;
and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

yea.7 If ye abide in me. We don’t get glory because we can’t do everything on our own. even as I have kept my Father’s commandments. Enoch who we may not know as well Elder Bednar tells us of a promise given to Enoch found in Moses 6: 31-32.) and act upon them. ye shall abide in my love. Thank you Satan for this wonderful promise of torture. Without help we are nothing. 10 If ye keep my commandments. I know that I am nothing. and my words abide in you. We have to listen to his words (general conference. Grace makes up for what we don’t have. as to my strength I am weak. for which we will praise his name forever” (Alma 26:12). that we have power to do these things” in his talk ‘In The Strength of the Lord’. What do we think this means? Ideas        Christ is there to support us. Otherwise it is like we are dead for we shall burn in the fire of sin. Does anyone want to share the stories of Ammon and Enoch to refresh our memories? Ammon’s testimony: “Yea. for in his strength I can do all things. He went to Ammon and Enoch to show why grace is important. Elder Bednar Elder Bednar quoted Jacob 4:7 “Nevertheless. We are capable of great things (good fruit) or not so great things (bad fruit) and Christ is able to help us get/make the good fruit. Elder Bednar wants us to pay close attention to grace in this scripture. therefore I will not boast of myself. but I will boast of my God. . scriptures. ect. 8 Herein is my Father glorified. so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. behold. that ye bear much fruit. ye shall bask what ye will. Only do we get help if we do what we need to do. 9 As the Father hath loved me. and it shall be done unto you. it probably is more obvious how grace helped Ammon throughout his life. so shall ye be my disciples. and abide in his love. many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land. and his great condescensions unto the children of men. While we all probably are more familiar with Ammon’s story because of seminary this year. the Lord God showeth us our weakness that we may know that it is by his grace.

for all flesh is in my hands. I came up with a list of things that we need to do to be able to use grace. wherefore am I thy servant? “And the Lord said unto Enoch: Go forth and do as I have commanded thee. and love God with all your might. fulfill our callings. Ephesians 2:8 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith. or are unprepared. 33 And again. which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins. overwhelmed. for I am slow of speech. saying: Why is it that I have found favor in thy sight. and deny not his power. and all the people hate me. and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness. he bowed himself to the earth. or inadequate in any way to do an assignment or fulfill a responsibility. we can’t deny it Is there anything else that should be added to this list? If we do this the atonement allows us to be able to use his gift of grace. and no man shall pierce thee.“And when Enoch had heard these words. Elder Bednar goes on to say that we can receive the blessings from this promise today whenever we feel like we can’t do something. and it shall be filled. (write on the board. that ye become holy. then is his grace sufficient for you. and deny yourselves of all ungodliness. without spot. and be perfected in him. and I will give thee utterance. and I will do as seemeth me good”. then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God. through the shedding of the blood of Christ. and am but a lad. before the Lord. mind and strength. that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ. come unto Christ. Scriptures (erase the board) Will someone to read Moroni 10:32-33 and someone else read Ephesians 2:8? (assign if needed) Moroni 10:32-33 32 Yea. and spake before the Lord.) We need to       Have faith in Christ Come to Christ Deny ungodliness Love Heavenly Father with everything we have Acknowledge his power. and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ. ye can in nowise deny the power of God. . Open thy mouth. if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ. and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: From these scriptures.

many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land.We should be like Alma in praising Heavenly Father. yea. Testimony . I think that Alma has reminded us where all power really comes from and we are being allowed to use it for his grand plan. but I will boast of my God. for in his strength I can do all things. I know that I am nothing. therefore I will not boast of myself. behold. In Alma 26:12 he says “Yea. I really like how he doesn’t boast of the things he has done because of grace. as to my strength I am weak.” Alma really has used the Atonement in his life and has used grace to be able to change who he was and do all the things he accomplished in his life. for which we will praise his name forever.
