LITTORAL 2010 DRAFT PROGRAMME

Littoral 2010 will be an exciting opportunity to find out more about

original research and practice in Coastal Planning and Management
worldwide, focusing this year on Adaptation to Global Change at the coast:
Leadership, Innovation and Investment”

http://www.coastnet.org.uk/littoral-2010

 As well as enjoying the excellent location of this conference in the centre of

London right next to The Royal Albert Hall and surrounded by Hyde Park, the
Natural History Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Harrods and many
other famous attractions. CoastNet is organising Littoral 2010 in a way that all
delegates can make the most of this event.

 We have worked hard on the programme to be sure you will have a unique
opportunity to learn, exchange ideas and even acquire new skills, meet
other professionals and, of course, enjoy your time in London!

 You will be able to listen to our carefully selected and internationally recognised
keynote speakers and presentations with enough time set aside for
discussions and for identifying learning points or highlighting recommendations.
These sessions will be facilitated by invited Chairs with international expertise
and practical experience in the issues addressed. Peter Burbridge, Stephen
Olsen and Kerry Turner are just a few of our confirmed invited speakers.

 There will also be a chance to take part in more dynamic sessions: issues
round-tables, workshops, forums, seminars and activities that will be
taking place in parallel sessions. Littoral 2010 will be an informative and
participative experience, and we will be making the most of sharing the
knowledge and experience of all delegates. Please see more information about
the various activities at the bottom of this programme.

 During coffee and lunch breaks, the two evening receptions with live music and
the field trips you will have plenty of time to network with speakers and
delegates.

 Members of CoastNet staff will be available at all times to answer questions

and make your stay problem free.

We have included a draft outline of the conference programme to give you an idea of how the
conference will be structured although some changes will be made depending on speakers and
activities.

KEYNOTE/ INVITED SPEAKERS

The CoastNet Board and Team with the International Committee have carefully selected a
number of internationally recognised speakers to cover all three themes. They have also made
sure that there are clear connections between the various speeches and presentations.

PAPER PRESENTATIONS

An experienced Chair will be coordinating and facilitating these sessions where each of the 3
speakers will have 30 minutes to present his/her research or good practice and attendees will
have the opportunity to ask questions/ discuss and debate about the issues addressed during an
extra 30 minutes.

ISSUES ROUND TABLES

These dynamic and interactive sessions will allow authors of papers and posters to present the
key aspects of their work and exchange experience and ideas with attendees. The aim of these
sessions, mostly experienced based, is to confront research and practice and identify the real
needs of practitioners and policy makers from research.

WORKSHOPS/ SEMINARS

The various workshops and seminars will be run by outstanding trainers, project partnerships and
organisations so that participants can learn in a participative way skills and innovative tools and
techniques for improving their own practice. Public
participation and communications, community engagement, evaluation, systems approach,
ocean governance approaches, scenarios development, tools like the coastal wiki and new
atlases/map/data/knowledge integration systems, decision-making, etc.

http://www.coastnet.org.uk/littoral-2010
FIELD TRIPS

The field trips will be on boat, bus and walking. Attendees will have an opportunity to look at
coastal issues near London, with a focus on entangled social, economic and environmental
aspects of the Thames Barrier, coastal regeneration and deprivation. We will be guided by local
coastal professionals and experts.

NETWORKING RECEPTIONS

The Networking receptions will provide attendees with a relaxed environment to meet or catch
up with colleagues while listening to live music and being served with refreshments. If you
need a more private space for a brief project or partnership meeting you can consult the
CoastNet team and we may be able to indicate a room you could use. You will also have access
to the Internet at all times and access to a computer room.
