APRIL 2016
SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS
We want to thank all the people who welcomed our Sunday
School kids into their homes when we were out delivering muffins in March. It was a fun day!
Thank you to Jan Vipond and Kathy Dahl who helped teach in
March. Your service is greatly appreciated.
We also want to thank Lexi Danner and Ryanne Long who have
helped with our Openings.
In April we will be learning about Ascension, Peter Heals, Paul’s
Letters, and Paul and the Philippians. In May our lessons will include Early Believers, The Angel Frees Paul, and the Holy Spirit.
We are looking for one more community service project to perform in April or May. Please give us a call if you have suggestions.

RELEASE TIME NEWS
Release Time has been an enjoyable learning experience for all of
us. We continue to have 15-17 students attend who are a pleasure
to teach.
We use the same Spark program as our Sunday School which follows the church services on occasions.
Heather Danner and Joyce Hanson, Teachers

Peace Lutheran Church Council Meeting February 10, 2016 7:15pm
Absent: Lois, Gwen and Sandy K.
We gather in God’s name—Devotions. Lenten Services. Pastor Don has recommended/proposed a Liturgy Agenda for the meeting.
Regular business is kept to a minimum with a majority of our time in devotion. There is not a need to approve insignificant items. Less
formal.
Kyries and Glories—We share our joys and concerns, highs/lows. The messages in sermons have been well received and are focused
on helping us move forward. Call committee members were much honored to be asked to serve. Sound system has been having difficulties. It is less than 2 years old.
We celebrate our past, our history as God’s people
Secretary’s report
Treasurer’s report—Discussed one check that had not cleared and stop payment. Taken care of by family. Leon made motion to
approve secretary’s report with modification and treasurer’s report. Charles 2 nd. MCU.
Pastor’s report—Visits enjoyable. Assisted Living persons would like rides to church.
We look to the future
Interim Discovery/call committee—Call committee has not met. Members are: Sandy Perry, Chelsey Anderson, Joyce Hanson,
Jeff Lang, Roger Knapp, Doug Ostenson, and Ryleigh Johnson. Marilyn will put this in the spotlight with a thank you.
Discussed if we need to ask or suggest the possibility of sharing a pastor if other small congregations are also in need. At this
time we feel that we can focus on Peace alone. If we want a seminary grad, we need to move on this right away. Discussed
the process of dividing congregation into 10 groups to find out what they are looking for in a Pastor and obtain the data.
Tom and Pastor Don to call the synod. Executive Committee will meet with the call committee members ASAP. Will also
explore names suggested by the congregation if anyone knows of a pastoral candidate who may want to be considered.
We offer up our concerns of the past (old business)
Designate loose offering fund during lent—Elbow and Hoffman Food Shelves and Someplace Safe.
Confirmation update—Curriculum going well. Faith base is strong. Marilyn will add to spotlight page.
Annual Meeting review—Discussed making more detailed information available in narrative form and asking for more names for
council membership from the floor. Discussed the need to add to the October Agenda for groups to provide written
summary of their activities.
Spring cleanup—Pews need repair. Charlie will call a person who repaired pews in another congregation for bids or more information.
We offer up our concerns for the future (new business)
Election of Officers—Tom will stay on as Chairman. Leon agreed to be Assistant Chairman. Jennifer asked for someone else to
step in as secretary due to obligations for teaching confirmation. Marilyn will act as secretary effective at March meeting.
Pastor Residence—Rolling Hill Residence was full for the first time in a long time. Pearls Place is available.
Release time-budgeting, missing items—Discussed and clarified budget line item for Sunday School youth.
Bus driving—Need a Class B or medical card. Will spread the word of the need again. Rotating sign up so persons from Assisted
Living may join worship.
Audio mic’s—Mixer is shot. Will review if under warranty. Sandy Kashmark will locate verification of purchase.
Thrivent funds available (per Les Alvstad). Brenda works next door to Thrivent and will go in to inquire about more information.
Lenten Services—Well attended. 5:30 Soup. Marilyn is providing soup next week. Need to remind congregation of sign-up sheet.
Pastor Don’s vacation dates—Tom will send email with dates to all council members.
Thank you—Sandy will send a thank you to Tim and Tony Ray and post on the church Facebook for their assistance with the
sound system.
24th of June—Discussed with Pastor Don the service at the Pavilion.
We offer our prayers—Our thanksgiving for God’s presence in our ministry. God’s calling and equipping us for ministry and sending
us out to live the ministry to which we have been called. It is also a time to remember our fellow members.
We go out in God’s name. We share the peace with one another
We adjourn to serve.

Bus Drivers Requested

Visitation

In order to fully utilize our church bus, we need driver
volunteers who will obtain a “medical card” from their
health care providers in order to legally drive the bus.
What would work best if three to five drivers can be
credentialed so on a rotational basis, the bus can be
used to pick up our home bound members so they can
participate in Sunday worship and fellowship.

Take advantage of Pastoral Care and visitation
with Pastor Don by calling the church offices at

Pastor Don’s Landline Phone: 320-351-7343

Call Committee/Pastoral Search Committee
Thank you to all the members who have consented to
serve and have begun the search process for us. The
congregation/council appreciates your efforts and
communication.
Coffee with Council and Call Group
Consider using the fellowship time prior to and after
worship to connect with your council representatives
and with members of our call/search group. This is a
perfect opportunity to ask questions, give opinions,
offer concerns and suggestions. Most often there are
multiple members available during that time to
“coffee” with. Communication is important to a
positive outcome with our ministries at Peace.
Remember these groups are your voice.

Social Media
Be mindful to watch social media and your emails for
news from your church. We want to share all of the
happenings in a timely fashion. Thank you to Sandy
and our youth leaders for managing those sites.

Scholarships Available for Summer Camp
Scholarships are available through the church to
benefit youth who wish to go to Bible Camp this summer. The person to talk to would be Sandy P. at the
church offices. She will be able to forward information
onto the council {or the appropriate financial person}
for the available funding and resources. This is an
important ministry for our youth as they expand their
faith journey.

Audio System
Thank you to all the “tech savvy” individuals and their
contacts/resources for solving our persisting problems
with the sound system. All of us appreciate a working
system!
