The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup was the tenth Cricket World Cup. It was played in
India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
The World Cup took place between 19 February and 2 April 2011, with the first
match played on 19 February 2011.
The opening ceremony was held on 17 February 2011 at Bangabandhu National
Stadium, Dhaka, two days before the start of the tournament
The logo of the cricket tournament was unveiled in July 2009, at an official
ceremony in Mumbai. 12 companies from all over the world had submitted their
concept. From amongst the 12 concepts, the one presented by Australian creative
firm Witekite was selected as the logo.
1st Match – India Vs Bangladesh at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur,
Dhaka. India won by 87 runs.
The official song has three versions, in Bengali, Hindi and Sinhala "De Ghuma Ke" is
the Hindi version composed by the trio of Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy. Sinhala version –
Sinha Udaane
Stumpy, a young elephant, is the official mascot. He was unveiled at a function in
Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Friday, 2 April 2010.
The winning team would be taking prize money of US$ 3 million and US$ 1.5 million
for runner-up. The two semi-finalists will get 0.75 million US$ each. The four
quarter-finalists will each receive 0.37 million US$.
The Umpire selection panel selected 18 umpires excluding a reserve umpire,
Enamul Haque (Bangladesh) to officiate at the World Cup.
Shavir Tarapore and Amiesh Saheba were the two umpires selected from India.
14 warm-up matches were played before the World Cup started.
Semi Final matches:
 India Vs Pakistan - Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, India. India
won by 29 runs.
 Sri Lanka Vs New-Zealand – R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, Sri Lanka. Sri
Lanka won by 5 wickets.
Final Match: India Vs Sri lanka at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. India won by 6
wickets in the final.
Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first. They made 274 runs losing 6 wickets.
India won the finals by scoring 277 runs losing only 4 wickets.
Batting - Jayewardene made 103 runs, Gambhir made 97 runs and Dhoni made 91
runs.
Bowling – Malinga, Zaheer and Yuvraj took 2 wickets each.
Man of the match – MS Dhoni.
A total of 63 matches were played – 14 warm up matches, 48 tournament matches
and a match was abandoned.
