Ceahlău Massif

The Ceahlău Massif is one of the most notorious mountains
of Romania.It is part of the Bistriţa Mountains range of
the Eastern Carpathians division, in Neamţ County, in
the Moldavia region. The two most important peaks
are Toaca (1904 m altitude) and Ocolaşul Mare (1907 m
altitude). It is bounded to the east by the Bistriţa River and Lake
Bicaz, to the south by the Bicaz River. From the south, the main
access point is the village of Izvorul Muntelui, located 12 km north
from the town of Bicaz. To the north, Mount Ceahlău is also
accessible from Durău.
Climate
Ceahlau is moderate temperate continental area in which two
floors are differentiated due to altitude namely the climate of high
mountains and the climate of medium mountain .
The average annual temperature is 0.7 degrees C at the peak
and 7.2 degree C at the base of the mountain . The maximum
values recorded in July, was around 18 degrees C and the
minimum in January, when it recorded an average temperature of
-3 degrees C. The high number of days under 0 degrees C can
reach 200 in a year with some of them even during the summer .
Hydrography
Surface waters in Ceahlau Massif area all belong Bistrita river
basin . Bistrita River formed Lake Spring Mountain streams and
tributaries are direct - Hermitage 13km , 13km - Mountain Spring ,
White Spring , Secu, Coşuşna , Răpciuniţa , snook .
Other tributaries are indirect and are collected by two major
tributaries of Bistrita , Bistricioara and Bicaz . Bistricioara gathers
the waters of the northwestern slope (Pintic ) and Bicazul those
on the eastern slope ( Chişirig , Black and Bistra ) .

The rocks can be seen today on Mount Ceahlău and are a living testimony of this myth Romanian. marten (Martes martes). Dochia started going with her flock to the mountain.
