Licenses and Licensing 3
Introduction
The WinCC software is protected and can only be used in its full measure with a valid
license. Each installed software and option used requires a valid license for unrestricted
operation of WinCC. You will receive a storage medium with all necessary license keys for
the installation of licenses. The licenses for optional packages must be ordered separately.
Licenses which are installed for use in WinCC are transferred from the storage medium to a
local drive and are unregistered on the storage medium. The cumulation of more than one
license per component subject to a license is possible only for archive licenses. Other
licenses cannot be cumulated.

Note
Furthermore, the licensee confirms that the software (SW) contains licensed software by
Microsoft Corporation or its subsidiaries. Thereby, licensee agrees to be bound by the terms
and conditions of the appended license agreement between Microsoft SQL Server and end
user, and to fulfill same.

Notes On License Conditions

Please observe the enclosed license conditions, which are also displayed during the
installation.
The SIMATIC WinCC software is copy-protected against unlicensed use. Additional
information on licenses and license types may be found under "Getting Started > Licensing"
in the WinCC Information System.
Installed licenses are required to enable proper operation of WinCC. If WinCC is installed
without licenses, the program will switch to demo mode at start-up.

Note
It is not allowed to run WinCC in process mode without a valid license.

Upgrade to WinCC V6
Following an upgrade of WinCC V5 to WinCC V6, only the V6 license is available. This
license is not recognized by WinCC V5.
If WinCC V5 is used as an alternative to WinCC V6, the user is authorized to create an
image of WinCC V5, including its license. However, both WinCC versions may only be used
as an alternative to each other. Any concurrent use of WinCC V6 and WinCC V5 represents
a violation of the license agreement.

Licenses and Licensing

Demo Mode
If a license is missing for one or several components, WinCC will run in demo mode. WinCC
also switches to demo mode when the maximum authorized number of process tags or
archive tags is exceeded in a project.
In Demo mode, you can use the WinCC software fully for a maximum of one hour. After this
period, the operation of WinCC violates the license agreements. After one hour, the WinCC
Explorer and the editors will be closed. In Runtime, the system will request the acquisition of
a valid license. This dialog will appear every 10 minutes.
Details on demo mode may be found in WinCC Information System under "Getting Started >
Licensing".

Microsoft SQL Server 2005

A license is necessary to use the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database. This license is
readily available in a licensed and proper installation of WinCC.
The licensed SQL server installed with WinCC may only be used in connection with WinCC.
Its use for external applications or an internal database requires an additional license.

Installation of Licenses
Licenses may be installed during installation of WinCC or after the fact. Connect the storage
medium containing the WinCC licenses with your computer after the setup program prompts
you to install the licenses. All required licenses are automatically installed.
For installation of licenses after the fact, you may use the Automation License Manager. You
will find the Automation License Manager in the Windows start menu in the "SIMATIC"
program group. An after-the-fact installation of a license will take effect upon restart of
WinCC.
For the installation of licenses, the following requirements must be met:
● Administrator rights are required.
● The storage medium containing the licenses must not be write protected.
● For configuration purposes, RC licenses may be installed on a local drive but can also be
installed on a license server.
● Licenses may only be installed on a non-compressed drive.

Note
After uninstalling WinCC, the licenses remain installed on the system.

Upgrade Installation
You must upgrade the existing authorizations if you have received WinCC as upgrade from
V5.x to V6.2. The same is applicable to authorizations of communication drivers and WinCC
options.
The WinCC V5 licenses can then no longer be used after the upgrades.
In order to use the WinCC Web Navigator under WinCC V6.2 you need Version 6.2 of the
Web Navigator. Authorizations up to V6.1 used for the Web Navigator up until now can no
longer be used. A corresponding upgrade is required.

4.4 Notes on Data and System Security

4.4 4.4 Notes on Data and System Security

Introduction
System security when using WinCC can be increased by implementing simple measures.

Preventing Access to the Operating System Layer in Runtime

If the Windows Selection dialog is opened in an activated WinCC project, access to the
Windows operating system is possible using this function. A Windows Selection dialog is
opened, for example, when data is imported or files are selected.
Protect the corresponding function by executing a Permission Check via the User
Administrator to prevent unauthorized access to the operating system.

Preventing access to the Windows toolbar

Use the computer properties to prevent the Windows toolbar being displayed in runtime.
Open the "Computer properties" dialog and deactivate all the hotkeys on the Parameter tab
control in the "Disable Keys" section.
In addition, deactivate the "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows" setting in Windows.

Disable Keys
If the key combination is disabled, the following key combinations are also disabled in
runtime:

Key combination Function

<Windows key+U> System utility program manager
Press <Shift> five times Locking function
Press <Shift right> for eight seconds Impact delay
<Alt left+Shift left+Num> Keyboard mouse
<Alt left+Shift left+Print> High contrast

NOTICE
The functions can be configured using the Windows Control Panel. If the functions are
activated in the Windows Control Panel before activating WinCC Runtime, they are no
longer locked in runtime.

Local user rights when operating WinCC

Local administrator rights are required to install WinCC.
Local power user rights for Windows are required in order to operate WinCC.

Installation Notes
Software Installation Manual, 09/2007, Printout of the Online Help 17
Installation Requirements
4.5 Access Rights in Operating System

Local power user rights for Windows are required on the client as well as the server
Windows for remote access to a WinCC project.
In order to operate a WinCC Client in runtime, the "User" user right is the minimum
requirement. Prior to operation, however, the administrative settings must have been set up
by an administrator or power user, e.g. the authorization of file rights or printer driver
settings.

4.5 4.5 Access Rights in Operating System

4.5.1 Defining Access Rights in the Operating System

Introduction
When working with WinCC, certain folders can be enabled for access via the network. For
reasons of security, this folder should only be made available to specific users.

Access rights specified in WinCC

Following WinCC installation, WinCC automatically establishes the following local groups in
Windows User and Group Administration:
● "SIMATIC HMI". These members may create local projects, and may process, start, and
access these projects remotely. By default, the user who executes the WinCC
installation, and the local administrator are included in this group. Additional members
must be added manually by an administrator.
● "SIMATIC HMI CS". These members may configure only but may not make any changes
to runtime components directly. By default, this group is empty and reserved for later use.
● "SIMATIC HMI Viewer". These members have read access only to configuration and
runtime data. This group is primarily used for accounts for web publication services, e.g.,
IIS (Internet Information Services) for operation of WinCC Webnavigator.
After installation, the directory "InstallationDirectory/WinCC/aplib" with the name
"SCRIPTFCT" is unlocked for user group "SIMATIC HMI". This directory contains central
libraries for project script functions.
If a project is newly created locally, the members of user groups "SIMATIC HMI" and
"SIMATIC HMI CS" receive access rights to the project directories. Following a manual copy,
the administrator or main user may have to open the project once to set the local
authorizations properly. Thereafter, settings for the unlocked directory are not changed any
further by WinCC. You may manually change settings, if necessary.

Note
Configurators and users of runtime components must be registered not only in a "SIMATIC
HMI" group but also in a Windows group. Membership in the "SIMATIC HMI" group permits
access to the projects only but no access to the operating system. In order to create a
project, the configurator must be at least the main user and a member of the "SIMATIC HMI"
group.

5.2 How to Install MS Message Queuing

5.2 5.2 How to Install MS Message Queuing

Introduction
WinCC implements the Message Queuing service from Microsoft. It is a component part of
the operating system. MS Message Queuing is not a standard setting of the Windows
installation and must be installed later, if necessary.
The Windows installation CD is required to complete the installation.

NOTICE
WinCC is basically approved for operation in a domain or work group.
However, observe the domain-group policies and domain restrictions which could hinder
the installation. In this case, remove the computer from the domain before installing
Microsoft Message Queuing, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and WinCC. Log on to the
computer concerned locally with administrator rights. Carry out the installation. Following
successful installation, the WinCC computer can be registered in the domain again. If the
domain-group policies and domain restrictions do not impair the installation, the computer
must not be removed from the domain during installation.
However, please note that the domain-group policies and domain restrictions could affect
operation. If these restrictions cannot be overcome, operate the WinCC computer in a work
group.
If necessary, contact the domain administrator.

Upgrading WinCC 7
7.1 7.1 Upgrading WinCC

Introduction
You can upgrade to WinCC V6.2 via the upgrade installation for the following versions:
● WinCC V5.0 SP2
● WinCC V5.1
● WinCC V6.0.x
Proceed as described in "Installation of WinCC" chapter.
If you wish to migrate projects created with WinCC up to V5.1, please read the notes relating
to project migration first.

Note
Restart the computer prior to commencing the update installation from WinCC V6.0.x to
V6.2.
If you execute an update from WinCC V6.0 or V6.0 SP1 to SP4, to WinCC V6.2 you should
convert project pictures and libraries of your projects after the installation.
Convert these configuration data using the Project Migrator. You may also covert pictures
and libraries separately by using the pop-up menu of Graphics Designer in WinCC Explorer.

Database Sybase SQL Anywhere

Starting with V6.0, WinCC no longer administers Runtime data and configuration data using
Sybase SQL Anywhere, but with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or 2005.
If you wish to use WinCC V6 on projects created using WinCC V5.0 SP2 and higher, you will
require the Sybase SQL Anywhere 7 database for this migration. The use of the Sybase
SQL Anywhere database requires a license. This license is present as long as you use
WinCC V5.0 SP2 or V5.1.
Sybase SQL Anywhere 7 is included in the scope of supply of WinCC V5.0 Service Pack 2
and WinCC V5.1. After uninstalling WinCC, the database remains on the computer.
Sybase SQL Anywhere 7 may also be subsequently installed using the Autorun program on
the WinCC V6 DVD. The installation CD for WinCC V5.0 Service Pack 2 or WinCC V5.1 is
required for this.

7.2 Information on Migrating Projects

7.2 7.2 Information on Migrating Projects

Introduction
If you upgrade a WinCC version beginning with V5.0 SP2 to WinCC V6.2, please take note
of the following:

CAUTION
If you wish to work with a project in WinCC V6.2 which was created in WinCC V5.0 SP2 or
WinCC V5.1, please read the Chapter "Migration" in the WinCC Information System prior to
upgrading to WinCC V6.2.

Information on the System

● Operating System:
WinCC V6.2 will no longer run on Windows NT. For help on conversion to Windows 2000
or Windows XP, please contact the Microsoft Hotline.
● Multi-user system:
Starting with WinCC V6.0, there is no differentiation anymore between clients and multi-
clients. The WinCC V6 client accesses one server or several servers according to the
configuration.

Information on the Database System

● Database system, Microsoft SQL Server 2005:
In WinCC V5 the Sybase SQL Anywhere database system has been used. WinCC V6.2
manages Runtime data and configuration data using Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
However, Sybase is still required to perform the migration.

CAUTION
Only uninstall Sybase after migrating the projects.

● Swapping data:
WinCC enables you to swap your data directly via the new WinCC database. The
Storage option is no longer necessary. As a result, the swapped-out data is available as a
database.
● dBASE III:
Direct access to the dBASE III databases is no longer possible. After migration of dBASE
databases, the data is managed by the SQL Server 2005.

Notes on Licensing
● Licensing of WinCC starting with version 6.0 differs from its predecessor versions. New
RT or CS licenses are required. If more than 512 archive tags have been configured in a
project, an additional license is required for archive tags.

7.2 Information on Migrating Projects

Information on Migrating Projects

The differences between WinCC V5.0 SP2 or V5.1 and WinCC from V6.0 onwards result in
the following restrictions that must be taken into account for the migration of a project:
● C functions and standard functions:
Some C functions as well as the standard funtions
TlgTableWindowPressInsertRecordButton and
TlgTableWindowPressRemoveRecordButton will be obsolete.
Detailed information can be found in the chapter "Changes with ODK".
● Adaptations in the project
The project will have to be adapted following the migration process. This includes the
conversion of screens and libraries, adaptation of the archiving and, if necessary,
reconfiguring process tags.
For more information about the migration of projects see chapter "Migration".

Information on Communication Drivers

Certain channels which could be implemented up to WinCC V5.1 have been discarded from
the scope of delivery of WinCC V6.0 and higher. The following channels are no longer part of
the scope of delivery:
● Allen Bradley DH DH+ DH485
● Allen Bradley Serial DF1
● Applicom Multi Protocol Interface
● GE Fanuc SNP SNPX
● Mitsubishi FX
● Modbus Protocol Suite
● Modbus Serial
● SIMATIC S5 PMC Ethernet
● SIMATIC S5 PMC Profibus
● SIPART
● SIMATIC S5 Ethernet TF (under Windows XP)

Windows DDE
The Windows DDE channel is included in the delivery since it is compatible to earlier WinCC
versions. New connections, however, should be established using the "OPC" channel.
An updated version of the Windows DDE channel is expected to be supplied with a later
version of WinCC.

Upgrading WinCC
7.3 How to Perform an Upgrade Installation

7.3 7.3 How to Perform an Upgrade Installation

Introduction
If you currently have version WinCC V 5.0 SP2 or WinCC V5.1 installed on your system, you
can perform an upgrade installation.
Before beginning an upgrade installation, the transfer of existing projects must be prepared.

Note
If modified standard functions (ANSI-C) are used, make backup copies of the functions prior
to the upgrade installation. During the WinCC installation process, these functions are
overwritten by the standard functions supplied.
Certain channels which could be implemented up to WinCC V5.1 have been discarded from
the scope of delivery of WinCC V6.2.
Also pay attention to the notes in the WinCC Information System under "Migration".

Requirement
The hardware configuration on which WinCC V5.0 SP2 or V5.1 has been installed is also
sufficient for installing an upgrade to WinCC V6.2. However, there should be no significant
increase in data volume because otherwise the performance will get affected. If it is
expected that the data volume will increase, upgrade the hardware in good time.

Upgrade Preparation
Before performing an upgrade installation of WinCC, check the existing projects with regard
to special characters used in the archive names, archive tag names, trend names, trend
window names, column names and table window names. You will find a table with the
permitted special characters in the chapter "Working with WinCC" > "Working with Projects"
> "References".
It is possible that you must use Tag Logging in WinCC V5.0 SP2 or V5.1 to remove certain
special characters from the names.
VBA Code
The "@GLOBAL.PDT" file in the <WinCC-Installationsverzeichnis\Templates > directory
contains your global VBA extensions, for e.g. some menus.
If you install WinCC V6.2, the file "@GLOBAL.PDT" is automatically renamed to
"@GLOBAL.SAV" and replaced through a new file "@GLOBAL.PDT".
First delete the new file "@GLOBAL.PDT" and again rename the "@GLOBAL.SAV" for
accessing your VBA extensions after installing the upgrade.

CAUTION
When transferring archives, if they contain impermissible special characters, the Runtime
archive may be lost.

Note
Make a backup copy of your project before upgrading WinCC.
