Objective: The learner will show understanding of contractions by

NJCCCS:
1.L.lc Use singular and plural nouns with matching verbs in basic sentences.
1.L.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and
usage when writing or speaking.

Opening:
1. Good morning boys and girls. Last night I went to Shop Rite and I bought
chocolate syrup and milk. When I got home I got out a cup, poured milk,
grabbed the chocolate syrup, and mixed it together with a spoon. After doing
that I realized there is a shorter way to make chocolate milk, that is buying
the chocolate syrup and milk together. Remember Contractions are a
shorter way of saying what you need to say.
Presentation:
2. The teacher will write the objective and the importance of learning this lesson
on the board.
3. The students will then watch a short clip on the board.
4. The teacher will then call the students to the carpet.
5. The teacher will hang up the contraction poster and let the students think
about what they are going to learn.
6. After the students turn and talk the teacher will introduce the poster by
reading the saying out loud.
7. The students will then repeat the saying.
8. After the teacher will hang up another poster which has contractions written
on one side and an empty line on the other side.
9. The teacher will do the first couple of contractions together and then the
students will have the opportunity to write on their white boards. (white
boards will be organized before the lesson starts)
10.When the teacher feels that the students understand, the teacher will send
the students back to their seats.
11.When the students are back to their seats they will be given umbrella(s) and
raindrop(s). The lesson will be differentiated therefore some students will not
have as many as others or vice versa.
12.The students will then be able to grab raindrops do and not and find the
umbrella dont.

13. When they are finished they can work on a worksheet.


14.The teacher will later on hang up all their work on the door!
Guided Practice:
15.The teacher will do the I do, we do, you do concept.
16.The lesson will be differentiated as needed. Some students will only have one
umbrella and two raindrops, while some students will have multiple. For the
higher learners they will be able to work on a worksheet when they are
finished. If any student is still struggling, they can meet in a small group.
Closure:
17.The teacher will then ask the students to think about what they just learned
and then the teacher will call on the students to share what they learned.
