PCS Amgueddfa Cymru/National Museum Wales

To trade union bodies, community organisations and

members of the public an appeal for solidarity
Dear Friend,
PCS union members at the seven sites of National Museum Wales are taking strike action in defence of our living
standards. Our predicament is similar to that of the junior doctors in England. Our management want to remove
the unsocial hours payments received by front of house staff (in jobs like visitor services, cleaning and security)
as compensation for working on weekends. In the course of a year, they can amount to as much as 15% of the
take-home pay of the lowest-paid employees. Some earn as little as 15,639 and have only just been awarded
the Living Wage.
We appreciate that the Museums budget has been cut, but we do not accept that the lowest-paid staff should
be taking such a big hit, especially when the senior management team are not taking a comparable cut in their
own salaries. We have negotiated with Museum management to try and resolve this issue and have been willing
to be flexible, provided that any new pay arrangements provide fair compensation for staff who are obliged to
work numerous weekends every year.
Before Christmas, management made a final compensation offer, which we felt was insufficient. We were also
concerned about possible changes to jobs and working conditions. We therefore asked for further talks but
management refused and withdrew their last offer in favour of an earlier, inferior one. The Museums director
general, David Anderson, is now subjecting staff to enormous pressure, telling them that they must accept this
offer or be dismissed and re-engaged on the new terms, without any compensation.
We want to end our dispute and get back to focussing on our jobs supporting Wales cultural treasures, but we
cannot accept managements attack on our living standards or their bullying.
We would very much welcome any support that you or your organisation may be able to provide, in order to help
sustain us in our campaign for a fair settlement. Please consider doing one or more of the following:

At ganghennau o undebau llafur, mudiadau

cymunedol ac aelodaur cyhoedd apl am undod
Annwyl gyfaill,
Mae aelodau undeb PCS yn mynd ar streic yn saith safle Amgueddfa Cymru er mwyn amddiffyn ein safonau byw.
Mae ein cyfyng-gyngor yn debyg i gyfyng-gyngor y meddygon iau yn Lloegr. Mae ein rheolwyr yn awyddus i gael
gwared ar y taliadau oriau anghymdeithasol y mae staff blaen y t (mewn swyddi fel gwasanaethau ymwelwyr,
glanhau a diogelwch) yn eu cael fel iawndal am weithio ar benwythnosau. Mewn blwyddyn, gall hynny fod
cymaint 15% or cyflog y maer gweithwyr sydd ar y cyflog isaf yn ei gael yn eu pocedi. Mae rhain ennill cyn
lleied 15,639 a newydd ddechrau derbyn y Cyflog Byw maen nhw.
Rydym yn gwerthfawrogi bod cyllideb yr Amgueddfa wedi cael ei thorri, ond nid ydym yn derbyn mair staff sydd
ar y cyflogau isaf ddylai fod yn dioddef fwyaf, yn enwedig pan nad ywr uwch dm rheolin cael toriadau tebyg yn
eu cyflogau eu hunain. Rydym wedi trafod gyda rheolwyr yr Amgueddfa i geisio datrys y mater hwn, ac wedi bod
yn barod i fod yn hyblyg, ar yr amod bod unrhyw drefniant cyflog newydd yn cynnig iawndal teg i staff syn gorfod
gweithio nifer o benwythnosau bob blwyddyn.
Cyn y Nadolig, cyflwynodd y rheolwyr gynnig terfynol o iawndal ir staff. Ond nid oeddem nin teimlo bod y
cynnig hwnnwn ddigonol. Roeddem hefyd yn bryderus am newidiadau posib i swyddi ac amodau gwaith.
Felly, fe wnaethom ofyn am drafodaethau pellach. Gwrthod wnaeth y rheolwyr, gan dynnu eu cynnig diwethaf
yn l, a chyflwyno un cynharach, salach. Mae cyfarwyddwr cyffredinol yr Amgueddfa, David Anderson, yn rhoi
staff o dan bwysau mawr nawr. Maen dweud wrthyn nhw bod yn rhaid iddyn nhw dderbyn y cynnig hwn neu
gael eu diswyddo au hailgyflogi ar y telerau newydd, heb unrhyw iawndal.
A fyddech cystal ag ystyried gwneud un neu ragor or canlynol:
