Were you scared at any point about

thismission?
We have received a number of letters Big history wasinthe makingyesterdayinandaroundthe space centerbutmainlyof Notatall!Itswaymore scarywhenJeb
from readers pointing out a minor course high above all our heads. Orbiter1, a 2kerbal experimental craft, was takes of his pants before a shower. I am

In our lead article we had labelled the

peak altitude as periapsis. Scientists
have pointedoutthatindeedthispointis
called the apoapsis, while the periapsis
refers to the lowest point of an (orbital
orsuborbital)trajectory.

and also carrying senior scientist Bob Kerman, the vessel ignited its powerful
SpaceY06R solid fuel boosters on the pad, and quickly accelerated to supersonic
speed, before dropping the boosters and igniting its KW Vestra VR1 liquid fuel
engine,whicheventuallypropelledthecrafttoaroughly80by80kmequatorialorbit.
After one orbit, which also let the craft around the night side of Kerbin, the main
engine was successfully reignited leading the crafttoa reentrytrajectory.Separating
the engine and fuel tanks from the craft allowed the enclosed heat shield to absorb
most of the deadly reentry force before the main parachute was deployed at about
5000m altitude. The vessel came down over land, about 100km west of the mountain
range off KSC. Flight director Gene Kerman confirmed that the complete maneuver
wasflownmanuallybyValentina.
Main goals for this flight focussed on testing various systems, such as the 2kerbal
Corvusmanufactured capsule, associated control system, orbital maneuvering
thrustersandreentryprocedures.
Allegedly now mission control is first to be upgraded with advanced flight planning
andtrackingsystemsbeforefurtherventureswillbemade.
In a quick comment KSA executive director TheDog expressed high expectations for
followupmissions.
