Year 5 London Trip
Dear Parents,
This term, the children in Year 5 are learning about a UK locality. We have chosen the city of London for this theme and
will be going on a class day trip to the capital.
Due to the size of group train bookings, and to keep the costs down, each year 5 class will go to London on separate
days:
th
Eagle Class (Mr Moat): Tuesday 12 July 2016
th
Falcon Class (Mr. Sherwin): Thursday 14 July 2016
Children will be accompanied on the trip by 6 adults, which include the class teacher and Mr Shields. The class will
meet at the main ticket office at Preston Train Station, no later than 7.30am, to catch the 07:58 Virgin Train to London
Euston.
The cost per child for the trip is £30 we appreciate that this is a lot to ask for our parents, however the school
subsidises this visit heavily with the train ticket alone costing in excess of £39.00.
If it helps we would like to offer parents the choice to pay in two instalments, of £15.00 each, one payable now and the
th
next payable by 17 June. (School has already had to pay for the tickets in advance this enabled us to get such a good
price). This can be paid on Parentpay or by sending cash/cheques to school, cheques payable to LCC please.
The class will arrive at London Euston at approximately 10.13am and will then take a short tube ride to Westminster,
where they will go on a walk to take in the sights, such as Downing Street, The Houses of Parliament, the Horse Guards
Parade and Buckingham Palace, weather permitting; they will then eat their packed lunches at St James’s Park.
After lunch, the class will take another short tube ride to the Natural History Museum where they will be able to visit
exhibits to support and develop their learning of their science theme.
The children will be required to wear school uniform, with appropriate footwear and a lightweight coat. They should
bring a small rucksack, containing a packed lunch, a small morning snack for the train journey, such as a cereal bar, and
a waterproof jacket, should they need it. Your child should also bring a small amount of money (no more than £10) in a
named envelope, for them to purchase their evening meal and a small gift if you wish. If your child wishes to take
photographs, we welcome them to bring a disposable camera.
