Portico e-Journals Holdings

as of 01/28/2010

Portico preserves scholarly electronic content in a dark archive. Currently we are preserving content in the Portico archive
from 8110 journals with an additional 2682 journals and 4,400 e-books committed to the archive and queued for
processing. Portico receives source and rendition files of the e-content directly from the publishers or their vendors.

Portico aims to be transparent about its procedures and policies and what content has been preserved. We have
received requests for information about the Portico holdings from librarians, as they cancel their print subscriptions and
dispose of old volumes to free up shelf space. This spreadsheet details the exact volumes and issues in the Portico
archive as of the date indicated above. Portico processes content in several ways - we typically have a set of historical
content to preserve and also received content in an ongoing manner as it is published. Depending upon the complexity of
the data formats involved, the back content may be processed into the Portico archive in discrete chunks which may not
necessarily match the chronological publishing order of the content (for example, Portico may process and preserve a
very early issue of a journal on the same day we process and preserve a much later issue and we may not process
additional content for that title for some time afterward).

Once the tools for processing any given publisher are complete, the ongoing content is processed as it arrives at Portico
and titles still in publication should have content added to them at least once a year (and more typically on a quarterly or
monthly basis). Portico processes content into the archive on a daily basis.

This spreadsheet includes 4 tabs:

Tab 1: Introduction - This page describing the spreadsheet.

Tab 2: Summary - The summary tab will indicate whether this spreadsheet is for all publishers and journals preserved
with Portico or one specific publisher. It also provides a summary of the content that has been committed to the Portico
archive for that one publisher or for all publishers.

Tab 3: Details - The details tab includes information on every title committed to the Portico archive for just one publisher or
for all publishers. This tab lists the exact issues in the archive for those titles for which processing has begun and also
includes those titles that the publisher(s) have committed to Portico but which do not yet have content in the archive.

Tab 4: Definitions - The definitions tab includes definitions of the terminology used throughout this spreadsheet.

Portico is a working preservation service and archive and our holdings increase on a daily basis. The most recent
holdings information available can always be found at
