Millennium II Oxygen Sensor Output Spike

T +1 403 219-0688
F +1 403 219-0694

To whom it may concern,

It has been determined that the Millennium II Oxygen sensors, model numbers ST340 and
ST341, when connected to a Millennium II transmitter may exhibit a phenomenon where the
analog output may spike to 20mA or the alarm relay output will turn an alarm state intermittently
throughout the day.
The following sections outline this situation and provide guidance on what action can be taken
to appropriately handle the operation of these products.

The Millennium II (M21, M22, and M2B models) series of transmitters, when connected to the
ST340 and ST341 Oxygen sensors may exhibit a current output spike for no more than 200
milliseconds at intermittent times throughout a 24 hour period. If relays are utilized on the
transmitter, the relay output will also change from its normal operating state to its alarm state for
a brief period. If the relays are set for latching, the relay will stay in its alarm state until the
transmitter is manually reset either though the main display or via the manual reset input on the

Existing installations
Analog output - A de-bounce timer can be setup in the control system that will ride through
this spike, thus avoiding any alarm conditions. If setting this timer is not possible or acceptable,
the firmware must be updated. Please refer to the update section below.
Relay outputs - If a de-bounce timer can be setup in the system, the timer should be utilized.
If a timer cannot be used or is not acceptable, the firmware on transmitters using the relay
output must be updated to resolve this situation. Please refer to the update section below.

Existing installation updates

If a firmware update is required on existing installations, Net Safety will supply electronic boards
that contain the updated firmware or replacement units as required. Due to the decision to
update only the HART versions of these boards, all units will be upgraded to the following HART
models at no charge to the customer:

New installations and orders

The decision has been made to only update the firmware on the HART versions of the
Millennium II transmitters. Therefore, the following transmitter models can only be used with the
ST340 and ST341 models effective immediately:
