Academic Projects:
Present activities at Crompton Greaves
• “Development of 250V/mm rating Varistor block for lightning arrestor using nano ZnO powder”
(This project aims at developing a Varistor block with 250 V/mm breakdown Voltage using nano ZnO
powder, identification of method of producing such a block and design of arrester with the new product.
The technology developed will be new and it will lead to develop of higher gradient blocks.)

• “Development of low cost insulated glass for coating of Varistor application”

(The objective of the project is to develop low cost insulated glass for coating of Varistor blocks. This
glass composition has low melting as well as high thermal expansion co-efficient along with low glass
transition temperature.)

• “Development of Carbon Ceramic Resistors with repeatable resistivity comparable with the benchmark
product”
(The objective of the project is to develop concept process for manufacturing Carbon Ceramic
Resistor disc so as to achieve the resistivity value of 187±18 Ohm-cm.)

• “Development of Dip Coating Process for coating of varistor ceramic”

(The objective of the project is to develop dipping process to coat the varistor ceramic with low melting
glass which will act as insulator.)

• “Development of class 5 Varistor block for lightening arrestor”

(The aim of the project is to develop a method of process for a ZnO block with min 16 kJ/kV energy
handling capability.)

• “Development of nano-dielectrics for electrical application”

(The objective of the project is to increase the breakdown strength and decrease partial discharge by
incorporation of nano filler in resin based polymer for medium voltage instrument transformer and cast
resin transformer.)

• “Development of humidity and gas sensors for electrical application”

(The objective of the project is to develop a sensor which monitors the moisture content and read a
composite value of gases in transformer oil. It is an intelligent, on-line monitoring system that
measures the level of combustible gases and moisture in dielectric oil for the evaluation of
dangerous conditions and early detection of incipient faults in transformers.)

Post Graduate Projects

• “Processing and characterization of Ni-Cu-Zn ferrite powder for multilayer ferrite chip inductor
application”
(The objective of the project is to prepare Ni-Cu-Zn-Ferrite powder with high permeability at high
frequencies for Multilayer Ferrite Chip Inductor (MLFCI) application. A low temperature co-firable
powder is required for MLFCI. Object is to co-fire the powder with internal silver metal electrode at
temperature <9500C. For that very fine grain reactive powder, modified with additives, is to be
prepared.)

• “Synthesis and characterization of Zn doped Ca-Hydroxyapatite”

(Zn-substituted Ca hydroxyapatites were synthesized by precipitation method under the specific
conditions and their structural and electrical properties were investigated.)

• “Development of Lead Free Relaxor Ferroelectrics for Ni-Based Multilayer Capacitor”

(The objective of the project is the preparation and dielectric characterization of Lead-free ceramics with
perovskite compositions derived from BaTiO3 in the system BaTiO3-BaNbO3-BiZrO3. Fine grain non-
reducible ceramic powders will be synthesized and tape casted for MLCC fabrication. The powder will
be capable of co-sintering with Ni-internal electrode.)

Under Graduate Project

• “Synthesis of BaTiO3 and SrTiO3 from (Ba/Sr)-Oxalate and TiO2”
(SrTiO3 powder has been prepared from Sr-oxalate and TiO2 precursors, instead of using titanyl-oxalate.
Sr-oxalate was precipitated from nitrate solution onto the surface of suspended TiO2 powders.)
