If you want to make a difference in the lives of your neighbors, please consider joining the Auxiliary of
Mon-Vale Resources, Inc. at Monongahela Valley Hospital.
The Auxiliary's members provide support services and amenities to the Hospitals patients and visitors as
well as members of our community.
Our volunteers give of their time together with hospital employees to make Monongahela Valley Hospital a great place to give and receive medical care.
For more information about joining the Auxiliary, please contact the Manager of Auxiliary Services at
724-258-1090 or the Hospitals Gift Shop at 724-258-1167.
The City of Monongahela will celebrate their 250th anniversary in 2019. For this occasion, they are planning to publish a Town Cookbook, in advance, to raise funds for the celebration. All the churches in town
are being asked to submit recipes to appear in the cookbook. If you have some really yummy recipes
that you would like to submit, please send to, or drop them off at, the parish office. We would like to turn
in our submissions by early July. Thank you!

Leadership is critical to the success of our diocesan-wide program, On Mission for The Church
Alive! Every parish needs to bring out and invite leaders committed to the Church, to the
Good News of the Gospel, and to enthusiastic evangelization. Our goal in everything we do is to
welcome all to the friendship of Jesus that lives in every Catholic parish, every Catholic institution in the Church of Pittsburgh. Look around you and see what is needed. What can you be doing to help provide and support the parish leaders of today and tomorrow?
To read more, check out On Mission for The Church Alive! on page 5 of this weeks Pittsburgh
Catholic and visit www.OnMissionChurchAlive.org. Follow On Mission for The Church Alive
on Twitter at @PghChurchAlive. Have something to share about how your parish is "On Mission"? Use the hashtags #ChurchAlive and #OnMissionPgh.
Please complete and drop in the collection or send to the Parish Office.

Pastoral Impressions
By Fr. Bill
Most Holy Body and
Blood of Christ
At the offertory we bring our gifts
to the altar, and they include not only our offering, but also the bread and wine that are to be
used for the celebration of the Eucharist. Yet
have you ever wondered why bread and wine
are offered? Why did God in his providence
choose these two consumables to be an acceptable offering? The answer reveals a mystical reality that many of us are unaware of.
The bread we use is comprised simply of wheat
and water. The wine is made of grapes from the
vine. Wheat, grapes, and water are gifts to us
from the earth and ultimately are gifts from
God. These basic ingredients become bread and
wine through human effort. We take these gifts
and we put something of ourselves into them
just as we make our own bread and wine from
scratch, and it becomes our own. We become
part of the bread and wine.
What many of us miss is that when the gifts are
consecrated the work we put into them becomes
consecrated with the bread and wine since we
are part of the gifts. This mystery is acknowledged in the preparation of the wine. The priest
says silently, By the mystery of this water and
wine we come to share in the divinity of Christ
who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
We become sharers in Christs divinity.
As sharers in Christs divinity we now have access into the triune God who is love. We enter
into this love by doing what love does: we give
and receive. For this is what the Eucharist is
about. We give ourselves with the bread and
wine. God receives and blesses them with his
Holy Spirit. We then offer them again, and God
makes them into his only Son. Finally, we offer
to God the Son as the only acceptable sacrifice.
God accepts this and allows us to partake of his
Son at Communion. We give and we receive.
This is our relationship of love with God.
