1. Quezon City

Quezon City Filipino: Lungsod Quezon, also

known to Filipinos by its initials as QC) is the
most populous city in the Philippines. It is one of
the cities that make up Metro Manila,
the National Capital Region of the Philippines.
Quezon City was named after Manuel L.
Quezon, second President of the Philippines,
who founded the city and developed it to replace
theCity of Manila as the national capital for 28
years from 1948 to 1976.[5] Quezon City is not
located in and should not be confused
with Quezon Province, which was also named
after the president. It is the largest city in Metro
Manila in terms of land area and most populated
local government unit in the country.
Having been the national capital for almost three decades, Quezon City is the site of
many government offices, including theBatasang Pambansa Complex, which is the seat of
the House of Representatives (the lower chamber of the Philippine Congress).[5] Quezon City
also holds the University of the Philippines Diliman, the national university, and Ateneo de
Manila University.
The city lies on the Guadalupe plateau which is a relatively high plateau on the northeast
corner of the metropolis between the lowlands of Manila to the southwest and the Marikina
River valley to the east. The southern portion is drained by the very narrow San Juan River and
its tributaries to Pasig River, while running in the northern portions of the city is the equally
narrow Tullahan River.

Quezon City is bordered by Manila to the southwest, by Caloocan and Valenzuela City to the
west
and
northwest.
To
the
south
liesSan
Juan and Mandaluyong,
while Marikina and Pasig borders Quezon City to the southeast. To the north across Marilao
River liesSan Jose del Monte in the province of Bulacan and to the east lies Rodriguez and San
Mateo, both in the province of Rizal.
The city can be divided into a number of areas. The southern portion of the city is divided into a
number of places including Diliman, Commonwealth, the Project areas, Cubao, Kamias,
Kamuning, New Manila, San Francisco del Monte, and Santa Mesa Heights. The northern half
of the city is often called Novaliches and contains the areas of Fairview and Lagro. Most of
these areas have no defined boundaries and are primarily residential in nature.

1. Antipolo City

Antipolo City, officially the City of

Antipolo (Filipino: Lungsod ng Antipolo), is a city in
the Philippines located in the province ofRizal; about 25
kilometres (16 mi) east of Manila. It is the largest city in
the CALABARZON Region. It is also the seventh most
populous city in the country with a population of 677,741 in
2010.[3]
Antipolo was converted from a municipality into a component city of Rizal
Province on April 4, 1998, under Republic Act No. 8508. A new provincial capitol
building was inaugurated in the city in March 2009 to replace the old capitol
in Pasig which has long been outside the jurisdiction of Rizal Province; after Pasig
was included in Metro Manila in 1975. With the transfer of the provincial
government to Antipolo, it is highly favored to be officially designated as the new
capital of the province.[4] On March 14, 2011, Antipolo was declared a "highlyurbanized city" by President Benigno Aquino; such proclamation however still needs
to be ratified in a plebiscite.[5]
The city is popular for being a pilgrimage site. It prides itself as the
"Pilgrimage Capital of the Philippines."[6] The Marian image of the Our Lady of
Peace and Good Voyage or the Virgin of Antipolo, which was brought in

from Mexico in 1626, and enshrined in the Antipolo Cathedral has a continuous
following among Filipino Catholics since the Spanish era.[7] A popular custom of
pilgrims to the Virgin of Antipolo is the trek going to its shrine on the eves of Good
Friday and May 1, from various locations in Rizal Province and Metro Manila. Some
pilgrims would begin the trek from Quiapo Church in Downtown Manila following the
procession of the image.[8] There is also an existing custom to have new cars
blessed at the church in the belief that this will ensure the safety of the car and its
passengers.[9]
Its higher elevation than that of Metro Manila affords it a scenic view of the
metropolis, especially at night. Its locally grownmangoes and cashews are popular
among tourists, as well as suman a local delicacy made out of glutinous rice.
TheHinulugang Taktak National Park, which was once a popular summer get-away is
being restored to become again one of the city's primary attractions

Marikina is easily accessible to other cities and towns since buses and
jeepneys en route to and from Cogeo, Antipolo, Pasig, Cainta, Taytay, San
Mateo, Montalban and parts of Quezon City traverse through the city regularly.
With the influx of vehicles everyday, traffic management measures are
implemented with joint efforts of the City Government of Marikina, Philippine
National Police and the Barangay Governments. The city prides itself in having
hassle-free roadways to the comfort and safety of motorists and commuters.
However, due to continuing population growth and corresponding increases in
vehicular trips, transportation is still a concern for Marikina City to maintain its
efficient transit system.

(PT&T).
Drainage and Sewerage

The Marikina River serves as the citys principal drainage system. The Nangka
River which serves as the boundary of Marikina and the Municipality of San
Mateo similarly drains a sizeable area of Marikina, particularly the eastern
portions of the city. Other than these rivers, there are also a number of creeks
that can be found in the city. The city has several open and covered canals which
serve as its drainage system. Domestic and industrial wastes are discharged into
this canals and ultimately drains into the creeks and the river. Additional drainage
facilities especially in the flood-prone areas are under construction to lessen the
yearly flood-related problem of the city. Sewerage disposal for the rest of the city
is conducted mostly through septic tanks.
Water Supply

The citys water supply is provided by the Manila Water Company (formerly
Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System). Domestic use accounts for
92.41% of the total water consumption in the city and commercial use accounts
for the remaining 7.59%.

The garbage that is being collected is transported to the Garbage

Transfer Station located at the back of the city hall where dumptrucks are
waiting which in turn transport the same to the sanitary landfill site situated
in San Mateo Rizal. These are collected along the road/street at curbside.
Residents and owners of establishments are required to discharge wastes in
plastic bags or trash receptacles prior to the arrival of garbage compactor.
The city has also adopted a Users Pay Principle (the more garbage you
generate the greater the cost you incur). This is the substance of the city
ordinance which requires commercial establishments to use only official bags
which they can purchase from the Waste Management Office at P25.00 per
piece (big size) and P12.00 per piece (small size). This scheme is intended to
persuade commercial establishments into minimizing on their garbage
generation to save on cost.

A schedule for garbage collection per area is set once a week in

residential areas, twice a week in commercial/industrial areas, and 24hour service in the public market zone.

The citys water supply is provided by the Manila Water Company

administered by the Waste Management Office (WMO). The city is equipped with
twenty four (24) compactor trucks and ten (10) dump trucks, manned by 255
personnel. With the effective deployment of equipment and manpower and the
use of a Garbage Transfer Station, the city is credited with a high garbage
collection efficiency rate of 98% based on 1999 data. (Considered as one of he
