CAREER OVERVIEW

I am keen to use the skills and knowledge I have gained to help others who have an interest
in music to progress and refine their capabilities. I have completed both a Masters of Music
Performance Teaching at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (University of Melbourne)
and a Masters of Secondary Teaching at Monash University. I have several years experience
performing and teaching music at high levels. I believe that with my combination of
professional knowledge, teaching experience I could make an invaluable contribution to any
school.

TEACHING PLATFORM

In my opinion music education has four primary learning objectives: to develop creativity; to
develop musical understanding; to enhance aesthetic awareness; and to encourage students
to engage with music in ways that enrich their lives. Through engagement in music, I want to
enable students to become independent, rational, critical thinkers, who are able to interpret
and re-examine their/others experiences/beliefs, and in doing so, form new ways of
interacting with, and understanding todays fast changing world. I believe that quality music
education should focus on developing students musical understanding. For students to
develop musical understanding they must interact directly with music through listening,
performing and creating and have opportunities to combine and link the three processes.
