Teacher Appreciation – May is Teacher Appreciation Month.

This committee is responsible for coordinating activities and/or gifts from each classroom to each teacher. Room Parents will assist in the coordination of this event as well. Lake Hills Scholarship – Each year the Northshore PTA honors a student graduating from Grand Haven High School who, as a child, attended Lake Hills Elementary School. This committee is responsible for reviewing scholarship applications and choosing a worthy recipient. The scholarship is presented by the PTA president, committee chairperson, or Lake Hills faculty member at the GHHS Awards Ceremony in May. Volunteer Appreciation Awards – Awards are presented to volunteers for the given year through nominations from their peers and school faculty. This committee is responsible for collecting nominations and printing certificates for each recipient. The awards will be presented at a spring event by the PTA board. Spring Fling – Our annual year-end event features games and activities for the kids, food booths, and entertainment for all Lake Hills families. This committee is responsible for coordinating event fliers, equipment rentals for activities and games, prizes, set-up and teardown, and scheduling volunteers.

PTA-Sponsored Events, Activities & Fundraisers
Room Parent Coordinator – This person is responsible for finding a volunteer in each classroom to serve in the role of Room Parent. All room parents must be assigned prior to Orientation. The Room Parent Coordinator will provide all room parents with information to be shared with their classrooms during the Orientation event. Room Parents – A Room Parent is a volunteer leader in their child’s classroom. This person is responsible for finding additional parent volunteers to head-up each classroom event (such as fundraisers, teacher appreciation, holiday parties, etc). Ice Cream Social – The Ice Cream Social event, hosted by the PTA board, is part of Orientation. Ice Cream is served to all families in attendance. Fall Fundraiser Product Sale – This committee is responsible for coordinating the details of our Fall Fundraiser Product Sale. Packets and forms are provided by the vendor and are distributed through backpacks. This committee will present the fundraiser contest information at a kick-off assembly, and will coordinate the collection of all order forms and payments. Once orders are received, pickup volunteers will need to be scheduled to assist in product distribution. New Student Greeter – This welcome wagon-like committee is responsible for assembling welcome packets for each new Lake Hills family. A warm welcome is given to each student in each class with a snack they can share with their new classmates. Phone Directory – The directory is a contact listing of all students and faculty. This committee is made up of at least three positions. Ad Sales – commitee is responsible for selling advertising space in the Lake Hills phone directory. Directory Design – this person is responsible for setting up the phone directory contact pages and ads into a printer-ready format and coordinating with the print shop to have copies made for all families. Bindery – this person(s) is responsible for binding copies with comb bindings and separating into bundles for distribution in each classroom.

Lake Hills Historian – This committee is responsible for attending all PTA-sponsored events to take photos. Northshore PTA Blogger – This person is responsible for working with the PTA board to coordinate postings on the new Northshore PTA blog. Assemblies – This person/committee is responsible for working with the school principal to coordinate all school assemblies. Autumn Fest – Autumn Fest is the first family event of the school year. This event includes games and activities for the kids, a hayride, food booths, and entertainment. This committee is responsible for finding a team of event volunteers, coordinating games, prizes, entertainment and rentals. Thanksgiving Baskets – Every year, our PTA assembles over 50 baskets that go to families within our school who may need a little assistance during the Thanksgiving holiday. This committee is responsible for coordinating our school’s food drive and purchasing groceries as well as finding volunteers to help assemble and deliver baskets. Box Tops – This committee is responsible for coordinating our school’s collection of General Mills’ Box Tops for Education. During the year, the PTA sponsors classroom contests and prizes for box top collections. This committee is responsible for contest fliers, box top trimming and coordination with General Mills. Birthday Lunches – One day, each month, our PTA celebrates student birthdays (with half birthdays celebrated for summer birthdays) with popcorn for each student and a cupcake for all the birthday kids. This committee is responsible for finding volunteers to handle this event each month. Cupcakes are made by parent volunteers. Tshirt Sales – This committee is responsible for coordinating Lake Hills clothing sales one time per year. Order forms are sent home through backpacks, orders and payments are collected and coordinated with the vendor. Once orders are ready, committee is responsible for distribution. Fall Book Fair -- Our Fall Scholastic Book Fair is open to all students at Lake Hills. Our committee is responsible for theme decorations, set-up and tear-down of all book displays, and coordinating volunteers to be on-hand during all open hours of the sale.

Cookie Dough – This committee is responsible for coordinating the fundraiser sale of cookie dough. Forms are sent home through backpacks, orders and payments are collected and coordinated with the vendor. Once orders are ready, committee is responsible for pickup night distribution. Holiday Gift Shop – Our gift shop is an opportunity for the children to shop for inexpensive holiday gifts for their family members. This committee is responsible for distributing wish-list forms through backpacks, set-up and tear-down of all items, and scheduling volunteers to man the booths during all open hours. Pizza Nights – This committee is responsible for coordinating with local pizza restaurants for fundraiser nights. The restaurants provide fliers to send home in backpacks. Little Ceasar’s Pizza Kits -- This committee is responsible for coordinating the fundraiser sale of Pizza Kits. Forms are sent home through backpacks, orders and payments are collected and coordinated with the vendor. Once orders are ready, committee is responsible for pickup night distribution. Sweetheart Dance – This family Valentines Day celebration committee is responsible for coordinating event fliers, decorations, DJ and music, flowers for sale, photo booth, and volunteers to make cookies and to man the event. Talent Show – This event is an opportunity for students (Y5 thru 5th grade) to share their talents in music, dance, theater, sport, etc. The committee for this event is responsible for coordinating show announcement fliers, permission slips, rehearsals, show program and event volunteers. Lake Hills Walkathon Fundraiser – 2009 will be the first time for this fundraiser event. This family event will feature a 2-hour walk around the school’s beautiful grounds and food and refreshment booths. The committee will be responsible for the kick-off assembly, distribution of donation forms through backpacks, coordination of food and refreshment booths (to be manned by representatives from each grade), and collection of direct mail donations. Committee members will also coordinate the event details and volunteers. Spring Book Fair – Our Scholastic Spring Book Fair is a buy-one, get-one free book sale. Our committee is responsible for theme decorations, setup and tear-down of all book displays, and coordinating volunteers to be on-hand during all open hours of the sale.
