‘GUIDELINES FOR LINE SIZING
Line sizing shall be based on the maximum operating flow rate.
‘The main criterion to be considered for line sizing is pressure drop and velocity, which must be
less than the available pressure drop indicated by the material balances. Lines shall first be
sized for an acceptable pressure drop, and then be checked against the following constraints:
LIQUID LINE SIZING CRITERIA
LIQUID LINE SIZING CRITERIA
Service Friction Loss Range | Velocity Range
(bar/ 100m (psi/100 f2)) (ns)
Pump Suction (0.05 - 0.10 (0.22 - 0.44) Wote2
Pump Discharge: (0.20 - 0.50 (0.88 - 2.21) Hote 2
Notes 1 The limiting factor in the sizing is either the upper limit of the friction
or the maximum velocity (upper limit of the velocity range). When available
pressure drop in the system calls for a lower friction loss/velocity as
to the above ranges, then such lower friction lossivelocity shall apply.
Notes 2 Velocity limits depend on line diameter as shown in below table.
