Foaming
General rules :
Low surface tension + Compatibility = Foam stabilizing
- the lowest the surface tension, more foam will be
created, thus avoid.
Low surface tension + incompatible = not a foam
stabilizer
- possible a good defoamer but at least it will not
stabilized foam
foam.

Additives and foam stabilizing

Defoamer
Based on incompatible, give defoaming property.
Leveling agent
Most leveling agents are foam stabilizer as they reduce surface tension
and gives compatibility. However special modified leveling that crater for
foam sensitive system are available from AFCONA where it can perform
leveling, slip, anti-crater as well as defoaming.
Dispersing agent
Dispersing agent must be compatible in order it can function as
dispersing agent. Thus we can not avoid foam stabilizing contribution of
dispersing agent to the system. However as dispersing agent does not

Silicone and non silicone leveling agent orientated themselves on different

interface as show above. This will improve system performance of anti-crater,
levelling and substrate wetting properties. Thus we recommended to formulate
with a combination of AFCONA silicone and AFCONA non silicone leveling agents.

Co-grinding
This is a more common method in this paint system.
This method are referring to grinding all the pigments in the
formulation at once. All pigment are mix together with other
mill based formulation ingredients and grind together.
