Description:

An inspirational montage made by the blending of four

images, and the use of typography.

Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Learn to manage Photoshop layers.

Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks.
Use filters.
Apply appropriate typography.

Process:

I began by cropping two different forest images to 11x8.5

and overlaying the top image with an 80% opacity, and
adding a darkening filter. Next I added the galaxy image
and created a mask, and using a brush, pulled the trees
and ground through, giving the appearance that the boy
from the galaxy image was standing in the forest. Finally,
I added the text with a slight drop shadow, adding in
separate text for the words in the script font, and then
placed the image of John Muirs signature in white at the
bottom of the quote.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal

image.
Use the basic tools of Illustrator.

Process:

This isnt the first logo Ive created for a class, but it is the
first Ive done for a blog. I knew I wanted something simple
for a potential brandmark, so making the ls into a tree
was perfect. The color scheme was based off of a mountain
photo I found from a previous trip I took. Since the logo is
primarily text-based, I made sure to include a bold font and
a simple, elegant one. The leaves of the tree were created
with the pen tool, using varying thicknesses and stroke styles.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.

Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead.
Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.

Process:

I first positioned the logo in the upper left of the page, and
then made the dividing line. Then I placed the personal
and business information on either side of the line. I made a
duplicate line for the bottom of the page and used guides
to align them. Finally, I placed a greyscale version of the
logo in the center of the page and placed it at 7% opacity
since 5% was too dark.

created, and then the boxes behind the body. Finally, the
smaller logos and colors were finalized and arranged in
InDesign. The print was done double-sided and then folded
along the center line.
