Course Syllabus
South Harrison Middle School
Welcome back to school! I hope you had a great summer. I am excited about having you in
class, and I look forward to working with you! Throughout the year, students will
differentiate their learning by working in whole groups, cooperative groups, and individually.

OBJECTIVES:
Course objectives are aligned to the Missouri Learning Standards.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to help students meet the grade level expectations in the mathematics curriculum. It is
designed around lessons in the textbook and supplemental course materials. Students are tested periodically and
tests and homework will be cumulative. The math curriculum used will help students learn how to apply math to
real life situations.

## Show RESPECT to yourself and others.

Be in your seat when the bell rings or be counted tardy.
Come to class prepared with all supplies and a good attitude.
Stay in your seat unless you have permission to do otherwise.

## No talking while the teacher or another student is talking.

Raise your hand and wait to speak until recognized.
Ask questions at the appropriate times when you do not understand or see me after class.
When you are absent, take responsibility for your work.

Complete all assignments to the BEST of your ability. Be legible because if I cant read it, then
its wrong.

CONSEQUENCES :
If any rules are broken during class the following are consequences that the student will have. The
order will vary depending on the severity of the act.

## GRADING PROCEDURE and HOMEWORK POLICY:

A daily participation grade may be given with an opportunity to earn up to 20 points each
week.
ALL homework is due at the beginning of class on the specified due date. NO LATE
WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED, and you will receive a zero for that assignment, unless it is
accompanied by a late work coupon.
Homework assignments will each be given a point value. Students will be informed of the
point value for each lesson.
Homework from the previous day is due at the beginning of class. Late work will receive a zero
unless prior arrangements are made, the assignment is accompanied by a late homework
coupon, or the assignment is completed during intervention. Homework completed during
intervention will have the grade reduced by 50 %.
Make-up tests will be allowed on all tests, except finals. Make-up tests must be taken within
one week.
Finals are 10% of the semester grade and are comprehensive.

Student information and grades can be viewed through a portal found on South Harrisons web
page. Directions and log-on information may be obtained by a parent or guardian from the high
school principals office.

## ABSENCES AND LATE WORK:

Students are given two school days for each day absent to complete make-up work. It is the
responsibility of the student to contact the teacher upon returning from an absence. It is
encouraged to make it up as quickly as possible.
School sponsored activities are not counted as absences. Students need to make
arrangements for homework prior to their absence for school activities.
Tests and quizzes given while the student was absent will be made up on the day the student
returns to school, unless the student misses multiple days.
Students will have 2 days to make up a quiz or test that is given on the day the absent student
returns to school.
Prior homework assignments will be due the day the student returns to school.

## LATE WORK COUPON:

Students will receive 2 Late Homework Coupons per quarter. One coupon is good for one late
homework assignment. If the coupons are not used for late assignments, then they can be redeemed
at the end of the quarter for 20 extra credit points each.
Students are responsible for keeping their coupons. Extra coupons will not be given out, and you
cannot use anyone elses coupons.

MISSING ASSIGNMENTS:
Parents will be notified if a student is missing two or more assignments. A missing assignments sheet
will be sent home for a parent signature, and a call or email will be made to the parent .
