Iowa Voter Identification Requirements

Inactive and Pending Voters

Election Day Registrants

Non-expired photo ID (this may list a previous address)

Proof of Identity (must include a photo and cannot be expired)

Bank statement with current address

Iowa drivers license or non-driver ID card

Utility bill, including a cell phone bill with current address

Out-of-state drivers license or non-driver ID card

Paycheck or government check with current address

U.S. passport

Other government document with current address

U.S. military ID

All forms of identification must include the voters name.

ID card issued by employer


Student ID issued by Iowa high school or college

Change of Address
The identification requirements for voters that are already registered in a
county but reporting a change of address to a new precinct are the same
as those listed above for inactive and pending voters.

Voter must also provide proof of residence if proof of identity does not
contain voters current address.

You cannot use election day registration procedures unless your right to vote
has been restored by the Iowa Governor. If you are not 100% sure your right
to vote has been restored, request a provisional ballot.

Voters who are unable to show ID have the right to cast a provisional
ballot. Call the Secretary of States Office at 1-888-SOS-VOTE or the
County Auditors Office at _____-_____-_________ with any questions or
