2(a) Describe the sealing of the Sinaic covenant.


Moses gathered the Israelites at the foot of Mount Sinai.
He told the young men to build twelve altars according to the 12 tribes of
Israel.
They slaughtered bulls and collected blood in basins.
Moses then read the book of law to the people.Moses read to the Israelites
that,if they obey the law of God ,God would make them a kingdom of priests
and a special nation to God. The people said that they will do what the Lord
has said.
Moses then sprinkled blood on the altars and also on the people.

2(b) Outline six problems that Moses faced as a leader of the
Israelites.
The people were stubborn and rebellious.
The work of leadership was overwhelming/ too much for him.
There was lack of water and food for the Israelites in the wilderness.
The Israelites were attacked by hostile tribes in the wilderness.
The Israelites lacked the knowledge of God and easily became
idolatrous.
He faced competition for leadership from Aaron his brother and Miriam
his sister.
He was a stammerer and so he relied on Aaron as a spokesman.
Pharaoh was reluctant to release the Israelites out of Egypt.
He was short tempered and easily got annoyed, hence his failure to
reach Egypt.

Amos was from Judah in a town called Tekoa.


He was called to be a prophet in Israel (Northern Kingdom).
He was formerly a shepherd and a dresser of sycamore trees.
He was never a prophet before his call.
He was not a son of a prophet.
After his call he had a compelling urge to obey Gods voice.
He compared Gods voice to the roaring of a lion.

4(b)Show 4 ways in which the prophets today differ with those of the Old
Testament.
Today prophets prophesy in their individual churches unlike the Old
Testament prophets who prophesied to the entire nation.
Today prophets may not confront kings over social evils like the Old
Testament prophets.
Today prophets may not lead an ascetic life like Old Testament prophets.
Prophets of today are preparing the church for the second coming of Jesus, as
those of the Old Testament prepare the people to live according to the
covenant way of life.

Today prophets do not anoint Kings like the Old Testament prophets.

4(c)Explain the relevance of the teachings of Amos on remnant and
restoration.
Christians are the remnant through who God makes his will known.
God only punishes unrepentant sinners so Christians should repent.
God will reward the righteous with eternal life so Christians should remain
righteous.
Christians learn that God forgives repentant sinners so they should repent to
be restored.

5(a) State 7 reasons why Jeremiah condemned idolatry


It was against the Ten Commandments.
Idolatry was syncretism.
Jeremiah knew that idols are powerless.
Jeremiah knew that idolatry made people to offer human sacrifice
which is murder.
Idolatry defiled the land.
Idolatry also involved sexual immorality e.g. cult prostitution which was
against the commandments.
Jeremiah knew that Yahweh was the only true God to be worshipped.
Idolatry would lead to Gods judgment.

5(b) Outline the measure taken by Nehemiah to solve the socio-economic
crises caused by oppression of the poor by the rich.
He called an assembly and rebuked the nobles and officials.
Nehemiah forced the nobles to give out grains and silver.
He ordered that the fields of the poor that had been taken as mortgage be
returned.
He ordered that any property held as security for loan is returned.
He ordered that sons and daughters who were held as slaves because of debts
be released.
He gave himself as an example of how leaders should forego some of their
privileges for the sake of the poor.

He condemned the rich for selling their brothers into slavery.


Nehemiah conducted a reconciliation ceremony between debtors and creditors.
He administered an oath that the nobles would not oppress the poor.
He spoke a curse against those who would not uphold the oath.

Some are rejected by their relatives,community,society etc.
Some who serve God fulltime may lack money if the church does not have
enough.
Some live and work far away from their homes.
Some are beaten or even killed because of their faith.
Some are attacked by terrorists and are captured for ransom.
Some are condemned in the society for advocating for the rights of the poor
or weak in the society.
Some Christians are discriminated and denied their rights.

6(a) Identify Seven changes that have taken place in the African way of
dressing
Nowadays African men and women dont wear special dress e.g. for war.
Men nowadays wear women attire e.g. earrings.
Women nowadays wear men attire e.g. trousers.
Africans no longer wear clothes made of animal skin, or Fibre like sisal.
Africans dressing nowadays change with fashion.
Africans have adopted European dressing which cover their entire body.
Today Africans also wear shoes.
Certain scarification of the body e.g. piercing the ear lobes has been
abandoned.
Children are also dressed unlike in the past when they walked naked.
Men no longer carry fly whisks.

6(b) Explain 8 factors that contributed to harmony and mutual


understanding in the traditional African society.

Kinship ties which regulated behavior of members.


The rites of passage which brought the society together.
Sharing of meals, beer e.tc.
Political organization which ensured law and order.
Division of labor which ensured that everybody contributed in playing their
various roles in the society.
Use of punishment on law breakers.
Common religious beliefs e.g. in God
Dividing the society in various age sets during circumcision. This bound
members of the same age set who shared a common name and related as
brothers/sisters.
Common ancestry .This bound members through common names, clans etc.
Oathing system. This enabled members to keep society secrets.
Communal sharing of land and natural resources.

6(c) In what ways have the role of elders been undermined in the society
today.
Today governments participation in public administration has undermined
the role of elders as chiefs; assistant chiefs etc. are used in village
administration.
Urbanization has undermined the role of elders as they have been left in the
rural areas.
Western education has undermined their roles as they are no longer seen as
custodian of knowledge.
The legal system has undermined their role as people refer to the courts to
solve their disputes.
Land issues are nowadays sorted by ministry of land hence elders do not
control division of land.

New religions e.g. Christianity has undermined their roles as pastors etc. have
taken over supervision of religious functions.

John was the prophet of the Most High God as foretold by the angel.
He was the fore runner of Jesus as predicted by the Angel.
He guided the people in the way of peace when he told them to lead a
reformed way of life e.g. tax collectors not to collect more than required.
He gave the people knowledge of salvation when he told them about the
coming of the Messiah.
He preached repentance to the people.
He called everyone to repentance thereby giving light to people seated in
darkness.
John was great in the sight of the Lord as predicted by the angel.
John lived in the wilderness as a Nazarite as predicted by the angel.

During the temptation of Jesus, the devil told him to through himself down for

married to seven brothers. Upon their resurrection Jesus said their bodies will
be like angels.

Nazareth after reading Is.61:1-3. 6mks.
After reading the book of Isaiah Jesus said he was the fulfillment of the
scripture/ the Messiah.
The people were disappointed as they knew him as the son of the carpenter.
Jesus refused to perform miracles he had performed in Capernaum.
Jesus said a prophet is never welcome in his home town.
Jesus unfavorably compared the Jews with the Gentiles when he said that
there were many widows in Israel when Elijah saved the widow of Zarephath
from starvation.
This also fulfilled the Old Testament prophesies on the Messiah.

2 (b) From the story of the forgiveness of the sinful woman, outline the
parable that Jesus gave and state its meaning. 8mks.
Jesus gave a parable that a certain man had two debtors.
One owed 500 denarii, while the other owed 50.
They both had nothing to pay.
Both of them were forgiven.
Then Jesus asked which of them loved more.
They answered that the one who owed more.
Jesus then told them that like the man who had a lot of his debts forgiven, the
sinful woman had loved him more.
That she loved more because a lot of her sins had been forgiven.

2(c) State the relevance of the transfiguration of Jesus to Christians today.

From the Transfiguration, Christians learn the importance of prayers.
It confirms to Christians that Jesus is the son of God.
It teaches Christians that they need to seek God before engaging in any
major event/challenge in life.
The presence of Moses and Elijah confirms to Christians the reality of
resurrection.
Christians confirm the reality of the Trinity from the Transfiguration of Jesus.
Christians learn that they need to obey the teachings of Jesus,from the voice
that spoke during the Transfiguration.

When he healed a man full of leprosy.
The exorcism of a boy after the transfiguration.

3(b). Show the injustices that marked the trial of Jesus.7mks

At the Sanhedrin Jesus was accused of religious crimes.


The charges against Jesus were all false .e.g. he was accused of forbidding
people to pay taxes.
When Jesus was taken to Pilate the charges turned political.
Pilate found Jesus innocent but did not acquit him because the crowd
demanded that Jesus should be crucified.
Pilate then sent Jesus to Herod. He also found Jesus innocent but did not set
Jesus free.
Jesus was sent to Pilate for a second time. Pilate found him innocent but
condemned him to death due public pressure.
Pilate released Barabbas, a thief as demanded by the Jews but sentenced
Jesus an innocent man to death.
During the entire trial Jesus was not given chance to defend himself.

3(c) Give 6 reasons why the disciples of Jesus were reluctant to believe
that Jesus had resurrected.6mks
The first report on resurrection was told by women who in the Jewish culture
were despised.
The entrance of the tomb had been blocked by a big rock, so they thought no
one would remove the stone.
They had not fully believed that Jesus had come to establish a spiritual
kingdom.
They had not received the Holy Spirit to make them understand the reality of
resurrection.
They were still in fear and shock about the death of Jesus to even believe that
Christ had resurrected.
Jesus did not appear to them immediately after his resurrection.

Christians need the Holy Spirit to remind them about the teachings of Jesus.

Christians need the Holy Spirit to reveal to them the truth about God.
