Christian Prayers & Sympathy to

Peggy Baggett and family on the loss of her brother,
Glen Howell. He passed away July 15th.
Tim Gandy on the passing of his mother, Helen
Gandy. She passed away July 19th.

By the way, that is why we are going to be focusing on

prayer in a big way starting August 7 with the Campus
Prayer gatherings at every school in Morgan County. We
are cancelling our evening service so that everyone can go
to the school closest to their homes at 6 p.m. and join in
the prayer meetings. Then on August 12 & 13, we will
have our Prayer Boot Camp, a program written by Dr.
Claude King. More details are available in this newsletter.
Then we will continue our study of prayer in our Discipleship Training hour starting August 14 and continuing until
we complete our study of The Battle Plan for Prayer. I
hope that you will join us for all of these opportunities,
and know that there is so much more in store for us as we
kick-off this new church year. I honestly believe that the
future is as bright as the promises of God.

What a Summer! Can you believe that it is August, and

school will be starting in a matter of days? I hope that my
statement doesnt cause too much pain to our students and
our teachers. It is just a statement of fact. However, the
Summer has indeed flown by, and I am totally blown
away by what God has done in our church during these
months. Typically, churches struggle during the summer
months, but our attendance has remained strong even
increasing slightly. We have seen growth both through
baptisms and transfer of membership. Our giving has remained steady with less of a downward trend that most
churches face. In short, God has been very good to Southside Baptist Church, and I believe that is because we are
remaining faithful to Him and to His Word. It is imperative that we continue to do so. We must listen for the
voice of the Holy Spirit as He directs our paths in everything that we do.

Sadly, another summer is quickly coming to an

end. While I love school being out, the hot weather
and all other things associated with the season, I'm
excited to get started on our fall activities! We're
going to kick off our new year on August 10th with
our Awana Registration Night! Have your children
invite their friends and let's get our year started off
strong! While we welcome new kids to Awana all
through the year, it works best for those who can start off from the beginning. We're going to need some more adults to help us in several areas
this year. We are always in need of people to listen to children say their
verses. This is only from 6:00pm until 6:30pm so it doesn't interfere with
any of the other activities you may be involved in on Wednesday nights.
We are also going to need a Council Time Leader. This is the person
responsible for the Bible story each week. Please prayerfully consider
jumping in to work with our children this fall. Many of them have few (if
any) positive Christian role models in their lives. You would be surprised
at how much it means to them to make connections with the adults in our
church. Let me know or call Pam in the church office if you're interested. I
know you will find them to be a wonderful blessing!
Outside Brother Ben's study we have a board set up to help us collect
school supplies for our children and youth. All these items came straight
from the supply lists for our children and youth who attend Southside.
Providing supplies for just one child can easily exceed $100. We want to
help them get the things they need to have a successful school year. If
you can help, choose an item and take that tag off the board. You can
then drop the items off in the box by the board. Ben T. and I will then get
the supplies to the students.
You'll also want to mark your calendar for October 8th. We are planning a
really exciting church-wide event for that date that you will not want to
miss!
Wishing you a wonderful August!
Tanya
