new children who will be starting in

It has already been a very busy and

exciting start to term 3 with our junior

A special thankyou is
extended to Mr Bray and Mrs De Bari for
their efforts organizing the carnivals as
well as the teachers and parent helpers.

eventful days with lots of exciting events.
Students are to be commended for their
efforts and sportsmanship.

Leader In Me Program

With the support of the Franklin Covey Association, Marie

Bashir Public School is focused on how we as educators
can create leaders, one child at a time. The Leader In Me
initiative based on Stephen Coveys 7 Habits of Highly
Effective People, is going to be embedded across all
subjects areas, and will be demonstrated and taught daily.
The Habits are:

Be Proactive Take responsibility for your life. Choose to

act deliberately and take responsibility for your actions.
Listen to your language and be proactive rather than
reactive.
Begin With the End in Mind Define your mission and
goals in life. Live your life with hope and purpose. Know
what you want before you begin.
Put First Things First Prioritise and do the most
important things first. Make the most effective use of your
time by prioritising. Work smarter, not harder.
Think Win-Win Have an everyone can win attitude.
Build successful relationships with others by finding a
solution that works for all.
Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood
Listen to people sincerely. Hear others with your eyes, ears
and heart. Only 7% of communication is verbal, 93% is
body language, tone and feeling.
Synergise Work together to achieve more. Two or more
people can work together to create a better solution than
either one could create alone. Synergy requires valuing
peoples uniqueness and individuality.
Sharpen the Saw Renew yourself regularly. Balance all
four dimensions of your life: body, mind, heart and soul.

Payments to the Office

Marie Bashir Public School will transition to a new NSW
public schools finance system and a new bank account on
17 October 2016. This will impact on payments to the
school office made by parents on 23 September to 17
October. Please read attached letter for further details.

Coding and Robotics

This years National Science Week (13-21st August) is

on Drones, Droids and Robots and hence, during Week 5
and onwards, students from K-6 will be learning how to
code using block coding (visual programming). Students
will be participating in a range of activities from
unplugged computational thinking activities to online sites
such as Scratch. mit where they will apply their
understanding of code and create code. Students during
Week 5 science week will also have the opportunity to
experience interacting and controlling a series of different
robots. These include: Parrot minidrones, Lego
Mindstorm, Spheros, Edison Robotics and Bee-bots all
through the codes that they have created.
It is envisioned that through these interactions and
applications, students will become empowered to be more
proactive creators rather than consumers in the digital
age.

Child Protection Program

The child protection component of the Personal

Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)
program, will be taught annually in Term 3. The program
consists of a series of child protection lessons prepared
from the NSW curriculum for each class. As we will be
teaching child protection this term, some parents might
like to read what is in the program beforehand.
(Kindergarten or other new parents who have not
experienced the program previously might be particularly
interested in the lesson content.) If you would like access
to the lesson plans, please see your class teacher.

SCHOOL SWIMMING SCHEME

24 June 2016
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Arrangements have been made to include a learn to swim program in our school curriculum.
The Department of Education School Swimming and Water Safety Program is an intensive learn to swim program which
develops water confidence and provides students with skills in water safety, correct swimming stroke and survival. The
scheme is conducted over 10 days. Each daily lesson is 45 minutes.

All students in Years 2 are expected to attend this swimming scheme.

Instruction will take place at Enfield pool. The Scheme will continue daily for two weeks from Monday, 12 September,
2016 to Friday, 23 September, 2016. There will be no charge for instruction, however transport and entry into the pool for
the 10 days will cost a total of $99.00.
Whilst we understand the high cost of the swimming lessons, we now have an eftpos machine for parents to pay
electronically at the front office. Alternatively, payment can be made in four instalments.
Each child should bring a swimming costume, a towel, goggles, a rash shirt, a blouse or shirt and hat and warm clothing
on a cool day. It is recommended that children use adequate sun protection, eg, an SPF 30+ broad spectrum, water
resistant sunscreen.
Students will be assessed during the School Swimming Scheme for ability to swim and water safety skills.

Please complete and sign the form below and return it the white school post box in the administration area.
