attentionwashowincertaincultures,technologydidnothaveaneffectonthem.Americans
haveagreateradvantageofgettingaccesstocomputersandtheinternetathome,comparedto
otherculturesfromEurope.Wewouldallassumethattechnologywouldinfluenceeveryone,but
doesitreally?Doesitdependonthecultureofwhetherweusetechnologyornot?Coulditalso
bethatinsomecultures,itisnoteasytohaveaccessandaffordtechnology?
Ipersonallyfeelthatcertaincultureswhohavemoreadvantageofgettingaccesstotechnology,
theiridentitiesareinfluencedmore.Growingupinahispanichouseholdofninepeople,wedid
notownasinglecomputer,notuntilIstartedhighschool.Bythen,peoplealreadyownedtheir
personallaptop.Weneverreallyusedthecomputerforsocialmedia,playgames,orwatch
videos,allweeveruseditforwasforschoolwork.Thisissomethinghispanicfamilieswould
usuallydo,eitherbecausetheyhavealargefamily,financialproblems,ormaybeboth.Ithinkit
alldependshowwewereraisedindifferentcultures,andwhetherweletthetechnologychange
ouridentities.

thenIwoulddecidedoit.Someprofessorsthinkthatweareengagedmoreandlearnmoreifthe
majorityofthecourseisonline,butIdontagree.Itdependswhetherthepersonhasselfcontrol
andknowswhentousetheirtechnologyappropriately.Nowadayschildrenyoungastenyears
oldalreadyhaveatabletorlaptop.Ithinkchildrenshouldnotbeintroducedtotechnologyat
suchayoungagebecausetheyneedtoknowhowtosocializewithothers.Theyneedtobeable
toliveaninnocentlifewithouttechnologyandgettoknowwhotheyarebeforebeingintroduced
tosomethingthatcouldtakeovertheirlifeandchangethepersontheyoncewere.

supportit,buttheyalsomademedevelopnewquestionsaboutthetopic.Ireallylikedusingthe
researchmethodwelearnedatthelibrarytheotherdayduringclass.Iwasabletofindallofmy
informationaboutthetopic.Iwasalsoabletoseethedifferencebetweenprimaryandsecondary
sources.Themajorityofmysourcesaresecondary,butIwasabletoobservemyfamilyasa

cameacrossabook,DigitalDiversity:Youth,Equity,andInformationTechnology,thattalked
aboutboththeprosandconsonhowtechnologyinfluencesyounglives.Iwasabletoseethat
technologydoesnotonlyhavenegativeeffects,butthattechnologycouldalsobebeneficialin
thefuture.Infutureresearchopportunities,Iwoulddefinitelyviewthetopicfrombothangles
becausewemayneverknowifitwillchangehowweviewit.
