A 27 year old woman suffering from tuberculosis was given streptomycin.
After few days she returned with complaints of double vision and difficulty
in swallowing food. On enquiry she gave the history of muscle weakness
and fatigue, especially at the end of the day, for last 1 year. These symptoms
worsened after she took streptomycin. On examination ptosis was observed.
Define the patient’s problem and explain the aggravation of symptoms.
What will be your line of action?


The patient is prescribed 6MP for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The blood uric acid
got raised for which Allopurinol was added to the treatment schedule. The
patient now developed toxicity to 6MP. Describe the metabolic pathways
and toxicity caused by addition of allopurinol. How will you overcome it?
