1 System overview
1.1

How does Telematics work?

To get a vehicle Telematic solution to work you need three main components:

A vehicle HW

A signal carrier, which can be GSM, Radio or satellite

An access point where the data becomes available, can be a web site or PC Software

In the TTM concept we use our own vehicle HW, the GSM network and an Internet based service for
the end users:

1.2

TTM Web Service

The TTM-Web Service is used to monitor and administrate vehicles. This solution has an array of
functions and advantages compared to traditional systems that require installation on the users
computer:

Log-in via web browser

No software installation

Always updated maps

Independent of network and terminal equipment

Calendar function for MOT and service dates

Report generator
o

Activity reports

Geographical reports

Technical reports

2 Getting started
2.1

Site access

TTM-Web is accessed through the web site located at www.haldex-ttm.com:

This brings you to the login page:

Note: This manual is valid for TTM-Web version 1.0.18. What version of TTM-Web youre currently
using can be seen in the down left corner of the login page. If this version number is not 1.0.18, some
functions described in this manual may possible not correspond to TTM-Web. If so is the case, you
should contact your system supplier to obtain an updated manual.

2.2

Choose language

TTM-Web currently supports seven languages; English, French, German, Italian, Swedish, Flemish
and Polish. You choose language on the login page by clicking on the corresponding flag. (Spanish is
currently not supported (2005-05-27).)
Note: As default, the first language in the language list in your web browser will be chosen. In Internet
Explorer this is configured in Tools / Internet Options... / General / Language...

Logging in

Before you start using TTM-Web you should have received a user name and a password from your
system supplier. These are then entered in the corresponding fields on the login page followed by
[Return] or a mouse click on the Enter-button.
Example:

Important! In contrast to the user name, the password is case sensitive. In the example above the
user name can be entered as SvenS, svens, SVENS etc, but the password must be entered exactly as
received from the supplier, e.g. SvSv3497.
Once logged into the system and not engaging in any activity for 20 minutes, you will automatically be
logged out and will have to log back in again to continue your session. The only exception is if youre
on the Vehicles-page (see 5). If that page is displayed, you will never be logged out of the system, no
matter the amount of activity.

3 Interface and navigation

Before you dive into the depths of the TTM-Web, an oversight of the different menus and options that
occur on many pages might be in order.

3.1

Menu navigation

Below are descriptions of different elements in a typical TTM-Web page.

4
5

6
8
7

No

Explanation

This specifies the currently active page. In this case were located on the Vehicle list-page.

These are menu buttons that perform different operations. In this case you could, for instance,
show a vehicles position on a map or refresh the vehicle list.

These buttons appear on all sub menus of the main menu and are used to quickly return to
the main menu or to take one step up in the menu hierarchy.
If you are editing information on a page where you have the option to save this information,
the editing can be aborted without saving by clicking on any of these buttons.
If you wish to log out of the system, you will first have to return to the main menu where the
Log out-button is located.

On many menu pages, so called combo boxes are available. In these you could, for instance,
choose the criteria for listing vehicles or, as in this case, choose what Vehicle Group that
should be listed on the page.

These are column headings that may be available for vehicles or users in the system. By
clicking on a column heading, it is possible to sort the objects in the list based on this heading.
In the picture above, the vehicles are sorted by Reg no in alphabetical order, which is
specified by the up-arrow located to the right of the heading. If you click once more on the
Reg no heading, the arrow will point down and the sorting criteria will be reversed
alphabetical order.
If you wish to sort the vehicles by another heading, you simply click that heading.

These are the objects in the list. They can consist of, for instance, vehicles or users. Before an

action is performed on an object by using the buttons (see #2), this object needs to be
selected in the list by simply clicking on it using the left mouse button.
In certain lists, it is possible to perform actions on several objects at the same time. These
objects are selected by using the default Windows standard:
1. Selection of several scattered objects in a list by depressing the CTRL-button while
clicking on the objects one wishes to select.
2. Selection of several objects located next to each other by extending the selection
range by depressing the SHIFT-button while clicking on the first object and then on
the last object in the range.
If the menu does not support actions on several objects, a message box will indicate this.
7

This specifies the current version of TTM-Web.

On some lists, the number of objects currently listed will be displayed here.

3.2

Map navigation

There are maps available on several pages in TTM-Web. The main navigation technique is the same
for these maps. This is an overview of the five different navigation tools.

Tool

Usage
Zoom in. To zoom in on the map you will first choose this tool by clicking on it.
Then there are two methods of zooming in:
1. Click once in the map in the area that you want to have in the centre of the
new zoomed in map, which will produce a 2x zoom.
2. Select a rectangular area you wish to fill the map window. Click once in the
map and then, while depressing the mouse button, move the mouse pointer
in any direction to define the rectangular area.
Zoom out. To zoom out of the map you will first choose this tool by clicking on it.
Then there are two methods of zooming out:
1. Click once in the map in the area that you want to have in the centre of the
new zoomed out map, which will produce a 0.5x zoom.
2. Select a rectangular area in which the area youre currently viewing will be
shown. I.e. if you draw the rectangle in the upper left corner, the area youre
currently viewing in the whole map will be shown in that corner.
Click once in the map and then, while depressing the mouse button, move

3.3

Abbreviations and expressions

This chapter will explain abbreviations and expressions used throughout this manual.
Expression

Explanation

TTM

Telematic Trailer Manager. This is the name of Haldex telematic system for
trailer management.
In this manual, the two components of the system, the web interface and the
telematics unit in the trailer, will be denoted as TTM-Web and the TTM-unit.

EB+

EB+ is an advanced EBS (Electronic Braking System) for trailers, developed by

Haldex Brake Products.
If a TTM equipped trailer also is equipped with this brake system, these systems
will be connected and TTM-Web will receive information from the brake system.
Read more about EB+ at www.brake-eu.haldex.com.

DTC

Diagnostic Trouble Code. If a problem should occur with the EB+ brake system,
a DTC is sent to TTM-Web to indicate the problem type.

Slow mover

A vehicle that has been located at the same position for a certain amount of time
will be flagged as a Slow mover. The Administrator, who adds the vehicles to
the system, will decide if a vehicle should be checked if it is a Slow mover and
if so the amount of time that should pass before a vehicle is considered to be a
Slow mover.
As default, a vehicle is considered to be a Slow mover when it has been at the
same location for three days.

Combo box

On many menu pages there are clickable folding menus. Such a menu is
denoted as a combo box in this manual.

A green arrow specifies that the vehicle was moving

when the last GPS position was received, which
indicates that the vehicle probably is not located at the
same position anymore.
Country

In what country the vehicle was located when the last GPS position was received.

Date

Date and time of the last received GPS position from the TTM-unit. This time is
specified in local time, based on the time zone setting of your computer.

Batt

Battery status. Is specified as a value ranging from 1 to 5, where 1 means almost

discharged and 5 means fully charged. This field could also be empty or contain
a U, which means that the battery status is unknown.

Mode

The TTM-unit has five different modes.

Independent of mode, the TTM-unit should report its position and status at least
once every 24 hours.
N = Normal mode

The TTM-unit is always in normal mode as long as

external power is available.
In this mode, the unit has full functionality and responds
immediately to position requests.

R = Restricted mode

In restricted mode, the TTM-unit does not update its

position as frequently as in normal mode, but it still
responds immediately to a position request.

P = Power save mode

In power save mode, it can take up to 10 minutes to

receive a response to a position request.

S = Sleep mode

In sleep mode, the TTM-unit do not respond at all to

position requests. It does, however, still send a position
report every 24 hours.

A = Active mode

Active mode is basically the same as normal mode,

with the difference that the TTM-unit sends position
reports through GPRS instead of SMS. The reports are
also sent with a closer interval, with 10 minutes as default.

U = Unknown

The TTM-unit has not yet reported its mode, which

therefore is unknown.

LI

Load indication. Specifies the load, measured in percent of allowed maximum load,
the trailer has. This is measured through the boogie pressure. If the load indication
is 100% or above, the text in this field will be red.

Status

Specifies the status of the unit through a number of symbols. By moving the mouse
pointer over these symbols in TTM-Web, information about their meaning will be
displayed.
A calendar event is connected to the vehicle.
No message has been received from the vehicle in the last 24 hours.
Automatic positioning is deactivated.
No message has been received from the vehicle in the last 24 hours even
though automatic positioning is activated.
A position request has been sent to the vehicle.
Problems with power supply. Analyze the returned error code (DTC) for
more information.
Indicates a slow mover-vehicle. (See the explanation of slow mover in
3.3.)

alert

If this checkbox is checked, the vehicle will be flagged as a slow mover,

when the time specified in Slow mover interval below, has passed.

Slow mover interval

The number of days a vehicle should have been at the same location before
it is considered to be a slow mover. Available values are 3 to 10 days.

Alarm priority

The priority of an incoming alarm message from the TTM-unit.

Alarm type

The type of alarm received from the TTM-unit.

Brake info

Shows last received DTC (see 3.3) with a descriptive text.

When contacting a service technician, the content of this box may help him
diagnose the error.
The red light to the left of the box is bright red if the error is so severe that
the warning light in the driver cabin is lit.
The EB+ picture is only shown for vehicles that have EB+ installed (see
3.3).

The button Poll for histogram data sends an SMS to the TTM-unit requesting a histogram, i.e.
available log data from a EB+ braking system, for presentation in a diagram form.
If a histogram has been received it can be shown by clicking the button Load and display
histogram data. The data will then be presented in diagram form in MS Excel, so this requires that
the user has MS Excel (or a compatible program) installed.

5.2.3

Events

The second of the three tabs, Events (see screen shot below), can contain different calendar events.
An event contains the date the event will occur and the date you wish to be notified of this event.
When a vehicle has an associated calendar event, this will be shown with a special symbol in the
status column of the vehicle list (see 5).

This menu can be reached by clicking the Settings-button on the main page.

Important! When setting up a system, the buttons are normally used in the order theyre placed
from left to right. This is because these actions are dependent on each other; to create Vehicle groups
you would need Vehicles, to create Profiles you would need Vehicle groups and to create Users you
would need Profiles.
