What is the order of operations? Be sure to be specific. How do you remember
the order of operations?

Order of Operations is the order of steps we do when solving equations with multiple
operations.

Example of multiple operations: ! + ( + )

In order to solve the example, one must follow a certain order of steps of present
operations to solve first, and then move from there to the next operation in the order of
operations.

Operation: A calculation from an input value to output value operated on by
a symbol such as +, ,, , etc

DO NOT just solve from left to write without following the order of operations

The Order Of Operations is as follows:
1) Parenthesis
2) Exponents
3) Multiplication
4) Division
5) Addition
6) Subtraction

I like to remember the order of operations by the acronym PEMDAS.

Example:

P
E
M
D
A
S

y=10 x=2 z=5 b=3 c=1

! + ( + )

10 2! 5 3 + 1 (3 + 2)

10 2! + 1 + = 10 2! + 1 5
10 2 + 1 1 = 10 2 + 1 5
2 + 1 1 = 40 2 + 1 5
+ 1 5 = 20+15
20+15 = 215
21 = 16

Give an example of how/when you use signed numbers (positive and
negative) in your day to day activities outside of math class.
An instructor prepares handouts for a class of 25 students. 2 students did not attend the class.
After passing out the handouts, there are 2 handouts left to go back into the tutors binder. The
formula would be 29-(25-2)
When ever we subtract from a large number into a smaller number we end up with signed
numbers.

If the instructor had prepared 29 handouts yet 2 students were still unattended, the formula
29-(25-2)+4 would apply.

Almost any planned occasion would use signed numbers; such as a party with too many or too
view gift bags in respect to the number of people invited who arrived and who were not able to make
it.

What does it mean to be "like terms"?

Before looking at like terms, I would like to first define term in math.
A term is either a single number or variable and numbers and variables multiplied together.
Now its much simpler to explain that.
1) Find 2 terms
2) See if they are alike.
3) If they are then they are Like Terms
Example: 2xb+13y+7y
Terms: 2xb, 13y, and 7y
These are terms because 2xb= (2 )
13y= (13 )
7y = (7 )

So in 2xy+13y+7y we will compare the terms 2xb, 13y, and 7y
The like terms are 13y and 7y because they share all the common
aspects of a term, they both have a number and they are both multiplied by the same variable.
To solve 2xb+13y+7y
First simplify buy calculating the same terms (13y and 7y)
Summary of 2xb+13y+7y = 2xy+20y

Fun Fact: Negative signed numbers where used by the ancients in astronomical calculations and were referred
to as strong and weal numbers
