ThegoalofKG1EnglishcourseistocreateafoundationofskillsthatwillpreparestudentsforsuccessinEnglishsuchasknowledgeofthe
alphabet,phonemicawareness,phonicsknowledge,andvocabulary.ThemainfocusofKG1willbespeaking,listeninganddevelopingthe
softskillsnecessarytosucceedinEnglishreadingandwritingsuchasfinemotorskillsandsocialskills.KG1willuseamyriadofresourcesand
coverseveraltopics.ThethemeswillbebasedofthestudentsArabicthemescheduleandwillusethepublicationfromtheSTORYTOWN
program(HarcourtSchoolPublishers),aresearchedbased,documentalreadingandlanguageartsprogram.STORYTOWNemphasizes
developingearlylanguageandliteracyskillstoplaceyoungchildrenfirmlyonthepathtoacademicsuccessduringlaterschooling.Theteacher
willsupplementthisprogramwithmanyfunactivitiesthatwillfocusondevelopingthespeaking,listening,socialandfinemotorskillssuchas
singingsongsandchantingrhymes,readingstories,painting,coloring,drawing,doingphonicsworksheets,doingcraftwork,playinggames,
engaginginroleplayingandmore.

stories,songsandvideos.Onthewebpage,parentswillalsobeabletoviewweeklyletters,importantcourseandhomework

Everyotherweek,yourchildwillvisittheLIBRARYandbeabletochoosealibrarybooktotakehome.Parentsareencouragedto
readthestorywiththeirchildseveraltimesaweek.Libraryfilesshouldbereturnedonorbeforetheduedatetoensurethatthe
childcancontinuetocheckoutbooks.

TheprogressofeachKG1studentinlistening/speaking,reading,writingandsocialskillswillbemonitoredcloselyandobservedregularlyin
class.Eachchildwillreceiveagradeattheendofeachtrimester.
