Freedom In Serving With International Christian Ministries

We count it a privilege to serve with ICM. Even though the main focus, vision and mission of ICM is
training leadership in Africa, we have been given the freedom to serve in many ways here in the
Northwest as we represent ICM. Our primary assignment is to communicate all that ICM stands for
and hopes to achieve on the continent of Africa and in the Middle East. However, under that objec-
tive we have the freedom to contribute our time and resources and experience in many different
ways. Georgia speaks regularly at women’s conferences and presents workshops on forgiveness,
healing and self care. She also produces a weekly devotional that is emailed to many as well as be-
ing available on our website. Georgia has written two books and created a line of greeting cards and
book marks focused on healing hurts that women have experienced. Georgia also counsels individ-
ual women on a regular basis. Dennis meets with several men each week in a mentoring role help-
ing men who have struggled with addiction issues and are in recovery. He also consults on occasion
with the Association of Churches of God through which he is an Ordained pastor. When called on,
Dennis assists churches with developing a process for becoming more active in cross cultural minis-
try. Dennis and Georgia together present workshops and seminars both here in the Northwest and,
when finances permit, in other countries in partnership with ICM or with the Church of God. All of this
is possible because of those individuals and churches who
support us financially and because of the freedom to serve
that ICM has afforded us. WE are blessed! Recent Happenings

We recently participated in the “Care Con-

neXion” conference in Beaverton. We did a
workshop on Missionary Care and staffed
the book table for the event held at Cedar
Mill Bible Church in April. There were over
150 people in attendance.

Jere.29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to
prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Not many of us can predict what God has in store for us each day, let alone next
week or next year. We would like to know (we think) but the problem is we would
know the bad things right along with the good things. The strain would be too much
for us. There is good reason for us to trust God with our days, weeks, and years:
He is the only One who can handle the pressure of that information. He tells us
specifically that He has a plan for us but He doesn’t tell us what it is. He wants it to be enough for us
to know that He does have a plan and that it is a plan to prosper us and not to harm us. That should
be enough but still, we make plans and then are disappointed when those things don’t come to pass.
I’m not saying we should never make plans but that we should slow down and make them asking
ourselves, “How does this line up with God’s plan for me?” and then holding on to them very loosely.

Recently, I had an emergency appendectomy. That was certainly not part of my plan but what do
you do? Is it God’s will that we have illnesses that sideline us for a while? There are many argu-
ments about that very question but the point for us to focus on here is during those times, God gives
us an exciting opportunity to know Him more, listen to Him harder, to think about our attitude of grati-
tude, and obey Him more readily. Maybe a time to slow down from the busyness of our lives, out of
the rush of the moment and our plans, and into the peace of His presence. These are the times
when we can truly say, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many
kinds….” (James 1:2) I wonder how many of us use those times as a restful respite in a chaotic and
hectic world. I realize that while you’re sick or in pain it is challenging to change the focus from “me”
to blessing God but I think that is part of His plan for us: to bless Him in spite of what’s happening to
us or going on around us. His plans for us
are to “prosper and not to harm, plans to Kinsley (age 3) and
