absorb energy upon impact
They are meant to slow down the impact, giving time for the human body to
adjust to the sudden stop
Crumple zones are most often made of plastic

In the 60’s and 70’s Federal Motor Vehicle Safety standards were set

Passive Restraint

Air bags are inflated by combining Sodium azide (NaN3) and potassium nitrate
(KNO3)
Airbags have three parts. The bag, the sensor, and the inflation system
