Mentor of Personal Projects MYP Responsibilities

1. You must agree to be the mentor of the students personal project.
2. You do not have to be an expert in the area but must have some general
knowledge of the topic of the project.
3. Deadlines are not your responsibility. However, they will need to give you a copy
of their timeline (deadlines).
4. You are to encourage students to stay on task and be aware of their deadlines.
5. When you meet with the student the first time, they will go over what they wish to
do for their project and the timeline they have. If at that time, you see you cannot
mentor them, let them know then, so they may find another supervisor.
6. You will need to meet with them no less than a minimum of five times over the
course of their timeline.
7. Each time that you meet, the student should have an agenda written as to what
they want to discuss and give a copy to you at the start of the meeting. You are to
keep the agenda and make notes for yourself.
8. They will have a form that they will fill in at each meeting what was discussed in
the meeting and what are the areas that they will work on for the next meeting .
You will then sign this form. A meeting time will be set at that meeting in order for
the two of you to know when to meet next.

9. It is the students responsibility to remind you ahead of time for the next meeting
to make sure you both can still meet.
10. Keep the agendas and notes. You will be asked at the end of the timeline your
evaluation of the effort of the student and the timeliness in meeting with you
concerning the personal project.
11. The students will go over with you in the first meeting the Areas of Interaction and
the ones they chose. They will also explain to you the philosophy of MYP for your
background knowledge in order to supervise them.
12. You will need to sign the form as mentor.
