Introduction
Celebrate the International Day of Peace by participating in The Global Search for
Peace, an interactive scavenger hunt, taking place around the world the week of

September 1925! Join fellow peacemakers worldwide as you embark on a journey

for everlasting world peace. By uniting voices and causes we can mobilize peace for
a better tomorrow!

What is a scavenger hunt?

A scavenger hunt is an interactive game in which an individual or a group of
individuals compete to complete a list of action steps from a provided list
in a given period of time.
However, since we are taking action for the International Day of Peace there
will not be a formal competition, just one global team effort to take action
and spread peace!

The Global Search for Peace includes a list of 30 actions that each participating
individual or group will aim to complete the more actions you complete, the
greater impact youll create!

This activity will require you to explore, engage fellow citizens and promote peace

within your community across all sectors of society, while also advancing the Global
Goals for Sustainable Development.

Ensuring peace in a community or country is often too complex for any one agency

or organization to solve alone; therefore, we are asking you to take action and share
the message that Peace is Possible around the world!

Instructions
1. Participate as an individual or gather a team to take action. Promote The Global

Search for Peace within your community, workplace, school or organization to find

like-minded individuals to join in on the fun! Depending on how many people you
recruit, we suggest dividing into smaller groups (57 people) to create even more
action!

2. If you participate as a team(s), choose a team leader. The team leader will be

responsible for ensuring all action steps are documented and shared online;

however, we encourage everyone to post and share their actions to amplify the
impact!

3. Download The Global Search for Peace Toolkit. This toolkit is necessary when

completing a majority of the scavenger hunts action steps. Almost all of the tools

can be printed on an ink-jet printer and found or gathered from your home. Every

participating individual or team will need their own toolkit. Learn more about the
toolkit on page 7.

4. Review The Global Search for Peace scavenger hunt action steps. Before you

begin, it is suggested that your team selects a few action steps to start with and
agree on a strategy in order to complete as many as possible!

5. Execute as many action steps as possible. Share you actions online by uploading

your individual or teams photos and videos to social media (we suggest Facebook,
Twitter and/or Instagram). Review the instructions on page 5 for suggested
posting requirements. These will ensure your actions are seen globally!

6. Have fun while sharing the message that Peace is Possible and taking action for
the Global Goals for Sustainable Developmentthe building blocks to peace!

Scavenger Hunt Action Steps

1. Combating climate change is just one thing the Global Goals for Sustainable
Development aim to achieve. Fill up your trash bag with as much trash as

possible and dispose in the nearest trashcan and/or recycling bin to create a

cleanerenvironment! (Dont forget to use the sanitary gloves in the scavenger

hunt toolkit!)

2. Find at least FIVE individuals to make their online commitment to Peace is Possible
at www.peaceispossible.cc. Take their picture with a Peace is Possible commitment
card to document their commitment.

3. Creating awareness for an everlasting world peace is important! Take a picture

with a symbol of peace displayed somewhere throughout the city. (E.g. a dove,
peace sign, laurel leaves, monument dedicated to peace.)

4. For peace to be prevalent, individuals must respect the law. Take a picture with
a law enforcement official holding a Peace is Possible commitment card and your
Global Goal #16 card. (Note: If they are busy, please do not interfere.)

5. Peace is not just the absence of conflict, but the prevalence of justice. Recite the
Peace is Possible campaigns definition of peace in a public place to spread the
message of peace. Have a friend or willing individual record this recital.

www.peaceispossible.cc | #Search4Peace | #PeaceIsPossible 8

6. Find five individuals to fill out the Peace is Possible when __________________
cards in your scavenger hunt toolkit. Make sure to take their picture holding their
card!

7. To make peace possible, stakeholders from all sectors of society must be

committed. Engage three local businesses to support the Peace is Possible

campaign. Get each business owners approval to post a Peace is Possible poster
in their window.

8. In order to make peace possible and achieve Global Goal #16: Peace, Justice and
Strong Institutions, individuals worldwide must take action together. Create a giant
peace sign using team members and/or participating individuals!

9. Protecting life on land is Global Goal #15. Show your support for this goal by

finding things in nature to create a peace sign or another symbol for peace with

your Global Goal #15 card. (Note: Please mind an individuals or business personal
property)

10. Individuals express their personal visions and views in a variety of ways including
graffiti art, murals, etc. Find and take a photo of public art that symbolizes peace is
possible.

11. Images or name usage of global peacemakers including Mahatma Gandhi, Martin
Luther King, Jr., the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela, can be found throughout the

world. Find imagery and take a photo of one of these peacemakers or any other wellknown peacemaker you discover!

12. Sustainable cities and communities are mandatory in order to make peace possible.
Take a photo of a sustainable practice by your city and/or their stakeholders and

citizens with your Global Goal #11 card. (E.g. bike rider, community garden, recycling
initiative)

13. The first step to finding sustainable solutions to the communitys greatest
challenges is to analyze community needs, as seen in the JCI Active Citizen

Framework. Speak with three community members to identify which Global Goal is
most important to them. Take a picture of the participant holding the Global Goal
card of their choice.

www.peaceispossible.cc | #Search4Peace | #PeaceIsPossible 9

14. Are you advancing Global Goal #12: Ensure Sustainable Consumption and
Production? Ensure you and/or every member of your team carries water in a

re-usable water bottle for the scavenger hunt OR find a community member using a
re-usable water bottle and take a photo with your Global Goal #12 card.

15. In order to achieve Global Goal #3: Good Health and Well-Being, use the iPhone
Health App or similar app to reach 10,000 steps during the scavenger hunt. If a step

counting app is unavailable, challenge a participating individual to do a wall sit for as

long as possible while holding your Global Goal #3 card.

16. Global Goal #14 concerns sustaining life below water. Take a photo with your

Global Goal #14 card while visiting a local aquarium, discovering a large body of
water or with any illustration of life below water.

17. In order to achieve Global Goal #10: Reduced Inequalities, find one example of

a product display or public advertisement that demonstrates offensive stereotyping

and take a photo with your Global Goal #10 card.

18. Global Goal #11: Sustainable Cities and Communities aims to make cities and
human settlements safe. Find and take a photo of a sign or display that promotes
safety of some sort along with your Global Goal #11 card!

19. In order to achieve Global Goal #13: Climate Action, only utilize public
transportation while traveling. Collect a public transportation receipt and take a
photo of the receipt with the Global Goal #13 card. (Note: This does NOT include taxi
or Uber rides.)
20. Discover a business that embraces Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
practices. Take a photo of yourself or your team in front of the business.
21. Hold your own concert for peace. Find a willing participant to video you or your
team singing a song about peace on a busy street corner. Invite others to join!

22. Exercise is important to achieve Global Goal #3: Good Health and Well-Being.

Find a park and start an exercise movement while taking a video. Whether practicing
yoga, learning a new dance or by working on your push-ups, its all good for you!

www.peaceispossible.cc | #Search4Peace | #PeaceIsPossible 10

23. Global Goal #4 ensures quality education. Find a public school, a center for
learning or public library, and take a team photo in front of the building or sign
holding your Global Goal #4 card.

24. Goal #6: Clean Water and Sanitation, ensures availability and sustainable

management of water and sanitation for all. Find an outdoor public drinking fountain
and take a photo of an individual or team member drinking from it while holding
Global Goal #6 card!

25. Global Goal #15 Protects Life on Land. Find a park ranger and explain the Global
Goals, specifically Goal #15. Get a photo with the ranger and your Global Goal #15
card! (Note: If they are busy, please do not interfere.)

participant to record you reciting them.

27. Find and take a photo of at least one visual, ad or promotional material for the
Global Goals for Sustainable Development showcased somewhere in your city.
28. Global Goal #5 aims to achieve gender equality. Around the world, women

do not hold as many leadership roles as men. Empower the women in your group
to make the next five decisions. Use the card in your toolkit to write down the five
decisions. Share a photo of the card next to your Global Goal #5 card.

29. When connecting all sectors of society for peace, engaging celebrities can help
tremendously by utilizing their massive network on social media and influence as

high profile individuals. Find a international, national or local celebrity to commit to

Peace is Possible and take their picture with a Peace is Possible commitment card.
Dont forget to tag them in the post!

30. Global Goal #9 aims to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and

sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. Gather individuals or your team

members to build a human pyramid with as many people as possible. Make sure to
hold your Global Goal #9 card and be careful!
