Additional Exercises:

1. Two CSTRs in series operate at steady state conducting a liquid decomposition reaction. Using
a space time of 20 min for each tank, 60% over-all conversion was attained. If the space time were
75min, the 60% conversion was reached in the first tank using the same feed.. What is the order of
the decomposition? What is the final % conversion of the reactant in the second case?

2. The elementary parallel liquid phase reactions: A -k1-> R ; A-k2-> S takes place in two
CSTRS in series. Take k1 = 0.02/min and k2 = 0.01/min, with Cao = 2M and Cro=Cso = 0. What
space time will be needed at steady state to attain 80% conversion of A? Find the concentrations
of R and S in the two tanks at steady state.

3. The elementary series liquid phase reactions: A -k1-> R ; A-k2-> S takes place in two
CSTRS in series. Take k1 = 0.02/min and k2 = 0.01/min, with Cao = 2M and Cro=Cso = 0. What
space time will be needed at steady state to attain maximum conversion of A in the second tank?
Find the concentrations of R and S in the two tanks at steady state.
