Undoubtedly theory provides the fundamental stone for the guidance But practice examines the element of the truth lying in the theory. Therefore a standard co-ordination between theory and practical is very essential. In this fast changing world of business ,many organizations have recognized Marketing research as a tool which can give necessary insights in gathering important information.

In todays scenario maintaining a sound database is a prerequisite. This has been a major challenge for most of the organization . Success of any organization depends upon its being proactive. An often quoted Markting adge is “To manage a business well is to Manage its future and to manage its future is to manage information.”

Marketing research is the central element of management of information and it acts as an integral factor between the market and the organization .It is not so easy to measure a market and this conclusion could be drawn only at the time of execution & implementation of the research programs. The Correct approach should be followed while conducting marketing Research.The research shoud be correctly define. There should also be the correct approach to the problem only then Marketing research ,as a tool will be helpful in gathering the relevant ,required ,correct ,concise and concrete information from the market. As this would not only keep the managers abreast of the latest trends In the market but also it would forearm them to handel any crises that May occur in future .To give the student of management a feel of Real world situation they are being sent to organization where they work on a prescribed problem or a topic and come out with various conclusions and suggestion.

I find myself very fortunate as we got an opportunity to work with NOKIA ,which is showing phenomenal growth and success in the telecom world . My topic of study was (NOKIA PENETRATION IN KOLKATA MARKET). In collecting the information both closed and open ended questionnaire was used . I have tried my level best to bring in as much as relevant information as I Could and analyze my entire research study by applying the most suitable techniques.There always remain a chance of human error biasness cannot be avoided.

CHAPTER 1 INRODUCTION OF THE STUDY

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY Among all other emerging sectors Telecommunication has been Obserbed as a sector with immense growth possibility.But to grow ,a company needs to have a clear understanding of the market and expectation of the consumer.The marketers task is to devise marketing activaties and assemble fully imtegrated marketing programs to create, communicate and deliver value for consumers . One traditional depiction of marketing activities is in term of marketing mix ,which has been defined as set of marketing tools the firm uses to pursue its marketing objective. According to Mc Carthy these tools can be classified into four broad Categories , which are know as 4ps of marketing ( product,price ,place and promotion. To market the product and services it is essential to know: 1) What features and qualities a product should have to cater the Market. 2) What should consumers be its price so that it will be accepted most of the consumers. 3) Whether the place , location or the coverage area of the product is Supportive or not. 4) What should be our mode of product promotion.

By keeping above realities in mind I have been assigned the topic to segment. The Kolkata mobile circle and to find out the desired positioning of NOKIA mobile as per market survey.

The objective of my study was: To find out the expectations of retailers from the products. To identify the dominating as well as abstaining factors of Customers, which has an impact on them for availing the Mobile services. To know the expenditure per month of consumers over Their cell phones. To price the products accordingly. To knowledge mode of advertisement, is more effective It can help company in its product promotion.

METHODOLGY The marketing concept is build on the premise that the first Identifies consumer needs ( both felt as well as unfelt ) needs And then develop products and services to satisfy those needs. Marketing research helps to get a reliable idea of the consumer behavior according to scholars ( Market research is the systematic and objective identification . Collection analysis ,dissemination and use of information for the purpose of improving decision making related to identification and solution of problem ). It is considerd most apt tool available to us for conducting a market survey. During the course of conducting the study information that We gathered were mainly through primary source. In the survey personal observation method was used in which Researcher meets the respondents and collects there feedbacks.

RESEARCH DESIGN Research design is a framework of blue print for conducting the marketing research project. It details the procedure necessary for obtaining the information needed to structure and / or solve marketing research problem. The Two Types of Research are : Exploratory Conclusive The objective of exploratory is to provide insight,into and understanding of the problem confronting the research. The objective of conclusive research is to test specific hypothesis and examine specific relationship. SOURCE OF DATA Data can be classified into two parts :primary & secondary . In this research the researcher has used both the forms. a) primary Data : primary data or information are those collected for the first time , and thus happen to be original in nature. With the help of structured formal set of questionnaire.

Various customers / consumers were personally interviewed regarding their views and priorities about the cellular services. Questionnaire consist of both open and close ended questions.

b) Secondary Data : Includes already collected data whether Published or unpublished . such as official database , magazines Journals.For this research the researchers has used company journals, Magazine,newspaper,company website etc(Ref.appendix ).

I have studied on 340 samples which were selected randomly
