Remove the Natural Born Citizen Clause

Advocate for the removal of the natural born Citizen Clause: John Yinger, Professor of
Economics and Public Administration, Syracuse University - My son, Jonah, came to
the U.S. from Vietnam as a 4-month-old baby. When his second-grade class studied the
presidency, he was told that he cannot run for President when he grows up, even if he
wants to.
250,000 foreign-born adoptees, 12.8 million naturalized citizens treated as second-class
citizens simply because they were born in a different country.
Naturalized citizens can hold other high-ranking seats, such as former Secretary of State
Madeline Albright and Henry Kissinger, as well as former California governor Arnold
Schwarzenegger. Doesnt make sense to allow them to run for other offices, but exclude
from presidency.
Excludes 700 Medal of Honor winners from running. Why is it okay for these people to
fight and possibly die for our country, but they cant run for president?
Requirement has been called the stupidest provision in the Constitution, undecidedly
un-American, and blatantly discriminatory.
Outdated: Original intent was to prevent wealthy foreigners from trying to buy
presidency, but since that is no longer a concern, the requirement is pointless.
Natural born more qualified: Presidency should go to someone who will know how to
lead the country, regardless of birthplace.
Natural born more patriotic: A person who was born in the states could hate the
country, while someone who was born out of the country could feel a strong sense of
pride in the U.S. Birthplace is not a good indicator for how loyal one is to their country.
Most importantly, it discriminates against naturalized citizens, preventing them from
having the same rights as their natural-born counterparts. Does not promote equality.
Causes naturalized citizens to feel inferior, divides them from the rest of the country

knowledgeable about political affairs.
Prevents scammers and inexperienced people from being able to run for president.
Senate Nominates Candidates

US Senate should nominate candidates for each political party that has at least 10
Senators by the partys Senate caucus.
Will ensure that no radical parties will be able to run.

President is Elected by Popular Vote

Over 70% of Americans say that they would prefer a nationwide vote as opposed to the
Electoral College

The Electoral College sometimes causes a candidate to win, despite this candidate not
actually having the most votes nationwide.
Ex: The 2000 Election, Al Gore won the popular vote, but because of the electoral
college, he lost to George Bush.
Candidates will no longer only focus on pleasing battleground states, like Florida and
Ohio.
