Introduction

Nowadays, global issues impact society more than any other time in history, humanity is being
shaped by these problems. According to Social Education, global issues are those that have,
or hold the potential for, far-reaching impacts on large numbers of people. Furthermore, there
are four world issues that are considered crucial because of the impact in society, which are,
combating malaria with genetically modified mosquitos, scarcity of clean drinking water, food aid
prolonging poverty and lastly, impact of social networking sites. The main purpose of this
research is define and explain a global issue with its causes, effects and posible solutions in
order for students to learn about them.

Body 1.
First of all, since the beginning of time, humans have suffered diseases, epidemies, etc, causing
fatal damages; one of the most threatening disease is malaria; malaria is a life-threatening
blood disease caused by parasites transmitted to humans through the bite of the Anopheles
female mosquito (WHO, 2016). Once a person has been bitten, the parasite (P. Falciparum)
enters into the bloodstream and travels to the liver and organs start to fail. The infection grows
in the liver before entering again into the bloodstream and invading the red blood cells.
Furthermore, people start feeling symptoms between ten to fifteen days after the mosquito bite.
Although, mosquitoes may transmit the disease to other people, malaria cannot be transmitted
between peoples interaction. Continuing, malaria may have catastrophic effects if it is not
detected on time, such as severe illness or even death. Fortunately, London researchers have
found an effective solution in order to treat P. falciparum and prevent its transmission, using a
new gene-editing technique called CRISPR, which allows scientists to edit genetic sequences
making the female mosquito infertile. Even though, the objective is to wipe out the insects that
spreads malaria by spreading the infertility gene throughout mosquitoes until this specie dies
out, the Imperial College London points out that more tests should be done in order to be sure,
since the mutant mosquitoes will last ten years until it dwindle. Summarizing, P. Falciparum is a
pathogenic disease caused by the bite of an insect, that if it doesnt have prompt treatment it
can lead to death.

Body 2.
Following, other life-threating issue that affects at least 30% of the worlds population is the
scarcity of clean drinking water. According to WWF, water scarcity, is either the lack of enough
water or lack of access to safe water within a region; this issue affects not only humans but
other living things as well. To continue, there are four main causes of clean drinking water to
scarce, one of them is climate change, as humans keep pushing out carbon dioxide and
greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, water will change around the world. Then, pollution,
pesticides and fertilizers, human waste contaminate water and make it undrinkable; agriculture,
60% of this is wasted due to irrigation systems; lastly, population has grown and some live in
river basins and under water stress, these pressures freshwater through the production of
commodities. Moreover, 1.1 billion people worldwide lack Access to water, and 2.7 billion scarce
water for at least one moth per year. 2.4 billion people suffer diseases due to the inadequate
sanitation, such as, cholera and typhoid fever; this lead to lack of education since children are
too sick to assist. Continuing, ecosystems are losing out and wetlands are disappearing. Finally,
individuals have created solutions in order to reduce the impact; recycle water with advanced
technology, improve methods in farming and sewage systems, support clean water initiatives
and lastly, provide education about taking care of the clean water so people without resources
may enjoy it often.

Body 3.
Thirdly, one of the issue that affects most of the worlds population is poverty. Since this
problem started to increase the mortality rates, governments all around the world saw the
opportunity to do something in order to decrease the poverty rates, this solution is called food
aid. Food aid consists on donated food, either by a foreign government or by a charitable

organization, to people in need, usually in developing countries. Moreover, this solution plays a
critical role in reducing hunger, government can improve health and encourage children to go to
school, which has proven essential to a country's long-term development, however, countries
that donate often fail to distribute enough food aid and they hand over late and unevenly. Food
aid can also turn local agricultural into weaker production in receiver countries and food security
is threatened. In fact, donor countries have programs in order to promote their own interests
instead of reducing hunger. Continuing, food aid provoke that unintentionally discourages
people from working; other effect is as it lowers local food prices, it may decrease the relative
payoffs to investing in ones production, as well as natural overexploitation and market
development. Moving forward, there are five main solutions in order to have food security;
providing food transfers and cash safety-nets for agricultural production, conducting agricultural
research and considerate climate change effects and its development in a sustainable manner;
increase rural income and employment and thereby reducing poverty; this will stimulate a
supply-side response, bringing equitable income distribution and fight malnutrition.

Body 4.
Finally, nowadays social networks have arisen in peoples communication and it plays a critical
role in society. According to Business Dictionary, social networks are the use of internet-based
social-media programs to make connections with friends, family, classmates, customers and
clients. Social networking can occur for social purposes, business purposes. In addition, as
everything, social networks have a great impact in society. It has advantages in three fields;
firstly, social, since it offers the opportunity for people to stay in touch with old Friends, make
new friends, trade ideas, share pictures, and learn from different cultures. Secondly, in business
since users are able to be updated of the global and local developments, participate in
campaigns, enhance personal career and business prospects. Lastly, in education, since
students collaborate improve their academic level and communication skills. In contrast, it has a
negative impact as well, such as cyber bullying and online harrassment; also, employees can
distract themselves on websites instead of focusing on work and lastly, revealing personal
information can make users vulnerable to crimes like identity theft. Finally, there are some
solutions in order to reduce negative impacts, implement security Web to enable employees
collaborate safely with business partners and friends while controlling the content that should be
downloaded or uploaded, as well as virtual fortress to prevent attaks, social networking policy
enforcement, raise awareness people about the way people should use these sites and to use
them responsibly in order to prevent cyber bullyng, identity theft, rapes, etc.
Conclusion
Summarizing, the world has faced catastrophic issues during the history of humanity that have
affected their lifes; in this research four main global issues were considered as the most
important since those are in the latest news and most of the worlds population are suffering
different situations such as, diseases, hunger, thirst and rapes due to natural or human reasons.
Following, global issues need for individuals to act immediately in order to reduce the impacts
and the effects that this controversy have created, therefore, global issues, are demanding society
to look to each other for support and assistance so people can live in a world full of peace and harmony.
