PBUH stands for Peace Be upon Him and UM Stands for The Mother of all Believers

10 years ago I was having a lunch with some of my office colleagues at Enugu state in Nigeria and among them there was RAMZI. RAMZI was not a close friend; he was a friend to my friend, a moderate gentleman who loved providing services to his fellow colleagues and considerably he is a nice person to talk too. One of the most frustrating discussions that went on that day is the subject of PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH) marriage from 6 years old AISHA (UM). RAMZI was accusing the prophet of being a rapist!, in according to his believe he considered himself literate enough about this very subject and looked proud of making fun along with others about it and I had to let go and leave. RAMZI was a Lebanese Christian and so were the others, I was the only Muslim among them, we all communicated very well, and all considered our selves liberal but also we had our differences when it comes to religion and religious views and I wanted always to avoid and evade discussing religious topics specifically if the discussion is more of a gossip nature rather than educational. In some cases discussing sensitive subjects partially could do more harm to the truth of the subject itself rather than making its case to standout. Discussing the marriage of the Prophet (PBUH) from Aisha (UM) needs not to be addressed over a lunch instead it is a case to study. Few years ago I read an article on the internet about the prophet marriage from Aisha (UM) accusing him of being a rapist and as I began searching more I found out that there is a lot of similar articles spread all over the web and the truth is that none of these articles are neutral instead most of the articles are using the case of the prophet (PBUH) marriage from young Aisha (UM) as a case of criticism to the prophet character and to the religion of Islam. Last year when I went on my annual leave, I was invited by my 28 years old nephew, to a café in Beirut Hamra street and along the discussion she brought up the same subject about the Prophet (PBUH) marriage from Aisha (UM) and somehow she looked mad about it while she was pointing to me with her finger and telling me 6 years! 6 years! but instead of withdrawing as I did in Ramzi’s case, I decided to stay as she is my nephew and means a lot to me, I decided to explain partially to her but not to the full extent of it and tried to contain her responses but never tried to justify because as I said before that Discussing the marriage of the Prophet (PBUH) from Aisha (UM) needs not to be addressed over a lunch instead it is a case to study. Finally and recently, a Close Christian family friend, asked my wife if she is aware why the Prophet of Islam married a six years old girl “She said Aisha by name” and my wife was shocked because really my 28 years old wife didn’t hear of the story before and her reply was “hold on, give me some time and let me find out from my husband”. My wife later came to me asking if this is true or not? And I replied yes this is true then we went into a brief discussion that resulted in her questioning me “Would you accept or allow your 4 years old daughter Sara to marry after two years?” and literally called the Prophet name Muhammad without adding the (PBUH) to it. I then recognized that my wife is on edge!

Even though my wife fast regularly without omitting a single Ramadan, prays 5 times a day and considerably she is a good Muslim but the news sent her into a state of frustration and I felt that there are so many Muslims and none Muslims who really deserve a true explanation about the entire story of the marriage before someone grabs their sentiments, making use of it on their behalf. This article addresses the marriage case of prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Aisha (The Mother of all Believers) and hope that this article which explain you how a husband and a wife could positively communicate and live in harmony forever. The core message behind the prophet marriage from six year old Aisha (UM) is not for the purpose of imitating rather it is to show and teach young Muslims (male and female) the manners of which they need to be characterized with during their married life, how to protect and preserve each other and how to protect a marriage of which is possibly doomed to fail due to young age commitment in order to avoid committing adultery. The Prophet Behavior and tolerance to Young Aisha behavior (due to young age) puts each Muslim Male under a great responsibility which is the responsibility of being patient and loving to your wife, tolerant and responsible of lecturing her and raising her up to be the good wife you are looking for. She is the wife that will raise your children’s and your relation with her at home will determine manners of you children’s, the manners of the Next Generation of Muslims In nowadays the so called modern style of marriage is known for each side (Male & Female) having multiple sexual relation prior to their commitment to marriage, in most cases the couple that will initiate the instance are not the same couple closing the instance, meaning in most cases your first love shouldn’t be your partner for life. The Islamic approach to this that if every couples engaging in a sexual relationship will stick to each other by marriage then these couples are abiding to GOD’s code which prohibits adultery but in most cases our modern style of life has turned the equation upside down allowing preference to the human altered code over Gods’ code. Committing adultery has several reasons and most of these reasons have motivating factors and these factors are connected to senses “Visual and Sexual”. In order to grab the whole picture we will need to look at the scale in its broader form before making any judgment and this needs addressing the case of the prophet marriage from 6 years old Aisha as per Islamic view taking into consideration that the prophet married Aisha at the age of six but never dated with her until she is nine years.

During his marriage to Aisha, The Prophet spent much time in raising her and lecturing her. The marriage benefits on the family aspect of the Islamic message have several direct and indirect interpretations of which it could be summarized as follows: 1. Muhammad (PBUH) is a Prophet. Do not take his case as an example for exercising the same as in some cases he had the privilege of which others not suppose to have as that privilege could be linked to a divine cause 2. Young Age Marriage was a common routine among the Bedouin of Mecca and Surroundings by that time and Muhammad (PBUH) is the son of that community and Marrying at that age was considered a normal practice 3. The is no Statement in the Qur’an which prohibits or sets a date for marriage as the word marriage references to become bond to each other “male and female” not necessary referring of having a sexual relation from the first date of engagement 4. Early Stage Marriages is always full of complications because of the immaturity involved and it takes a wise and a decent partner who has the highest level of manners to grow up, to raise and to train a young female to become the good wife, one of the best narrators of Muhammad’s (PBUH) closed circle life, About his life with his family is Aisha (UM).

Aisha (UM) lived after the Prophet for 47 years and she kept on narrating about his message throughout her life. She is a living evidence of how the prophet behaved to his wife, family and friends including his community and his behaviour in maintaining his family suppose to be followed by all Muslims all over the world but unfortunately this not the case. When you hear of stories about Muslims in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Gulf Countries, Saudi Arabia and other Islamic countries in regards to early age marriages which is resulting to tragedies you will need to understand that this type of marriages and related tragedies are not related to Islam nor it represent the true colour of Islam rather it represent the true colour of the person committing it. It represents the person who is marrying a young child for the purpose of satisfying his sexual desire rather than to train up the child to become the good partner in life otherwise this wouldn’t turned to be a public case of criticism. Those who are claiming to be Muslims by announcement should adhere to the true teachings of the prophet in order to prove their legitimate believe in Islam otherwise they are nothing more than hypocrites, in fact any person who claims being a Muslim but performs an act that will create a public chaos and criticism which seems authentic!!! Is no more than a hypocrite or a none-believer? One of the key statement of which the prophet said about managing human feelings is not to commit an act that will repulse others! In nowadays we see thousands of mal-practices acts being committed by those claiming to be Muslims either as an act of ignorance or as an act of hypocrisy which ends in repulsing those willing to adopt Islam as a religion away from it.

Aisha narrated 2210 hadiths out of which 316 hadiths are mentioned in both Sahih alBukhari and Sahih Muslim. Aisha was meant to be the narrator of key words and revelations that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) spelled during his life that leaves no doubt in the hearts of the believers about the authenticity of the Islamic message. I will leave you to read below some narrations from the Authentic Hadith about how the prophet lived in his house with his family and how he behaved in life about social and religious matters and leave it for you to judge if Muhammad (PBUH) was a rapist and a child molester:

Narrated `Aisha: That the Prophet said to her, "You have been shown to me twice in my dream. I saw you pictured on a piece of silk and some−one said (to me). 'This is your wife.' When I uncovered The picture, I saw that it was yours. I said, 'If this is from Allah, it will be done." (“Sahih Bukhari”) Narrated Aisha: When Allah’s Apostle was in good health, he used to say, "Never does a prophet die unless he is shown his place in Paradise (before his death), and then he is made alive or given option." When the Prophet became ill and his last moments came while his head was on my thigh, he became unconscious, and when he came to his senses, he looked towards the roof of the house and then said, "O Allah! (Please let me be) with the highest companion." Thereupon I said, "Hence he is not going to stay with us?” Then I came to know that his state was the confirmation of the narration he used to mention to us while he was in good health. (“Sahih Bukhari”) Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet said, "The most hated man in the Sight of Allah is the one who is the most quarrelsome." Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet said, "Or do you think that you shall enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you?" (“Sahih Bukhari”) Narrated `Aisha: Allah's Apostle came to me when Allah ordered him to give option to his wives. So Allah's Apostle started with me, saying, "I am going to mention to you something but you should not hasten (to give your reply) unless you consult your parents.' He knew that my parents would not order me to leave him. Then he said, "Allah says: −− "O Prophet! Say to your wives..." (33.28−29) On that I said to him, "Then why should I consult my parents? Verily, I seek Allah, His Apostle and the Home of the Hereafter." (“Sahih Bukhari”)

Narrated Aisha: The Prophet used to offer prayer at night (for such a long time) that his feet used to crack. I said, "O Allah's Apostle! Why do you do it since Allah has forgiven you your faults of the past and those to follow?" He said, "shouldn’t I love to be a thankful slave (of Allah)?' When he became old, he prayed while sitting, but if he wanted to perform a bowing, he wound get up, recite (some other verses) and then perform the bowing. (“Sahih Bukhari”) Narrated Masruq: I said to `Aisha, "O Mother! Did Prophet Muhammad see his Lord?" Aisha said, "What you have said makes my hair stand on end! Know that if somebody tells you one of the following three things, he is a liar: Whoever tells you that Muhammad saw his Lord, is a liar." Then Aisha recited the Verse: 'No vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is over all vision. He is the Most Courteous Well−Acquainted with all things.' (6.103) 'It is not fitting for a human being that Allah should speak to him except by inspiration or from behind a veil.' (4 2.51) `Aisha further said, "And whoever tells you that the Prophet knows what is going to happen tomorrow, is a liar." She then recited: 'No soul can know what it will earn tomorrow.' (3 1.34) She added: "And whoever tells you that he concealed (some of Allah's orders), is a liar." Then she recited: 'O Apostle! Proclaim (the Message) which has been sent down to you from your Lord..' (5.67) `Aisha added. "But the Prophet saw Gabriel in his true form twice." (“Sahih Bukhari”) Narrated Aisha: The Prophet said, "Such a person as recites the Qur'an and masters it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (in Heaven). And such a person exerts himself to learn the Qur'an by heart, and recites it with great difficulty, will have a double reward." (“Sahih Bukhari”) Narrated Aisha: Allah's Apostle said," (On the Day of Resurrection) any one whose account will be taken will be ruined (i.e. go to Hell)." I said, "O Allah's Apostle! May Allah make me be sacrificed for you. Doesn't Allah say: "Then as for him who will be given his record in his right hand, he surely will receive an easy reckoning?" (84.7−8) He replied, "That is only the presentation of the accounts; but he whose record is questioned, will be ruined." (“Sahih Bukhari”) Narrated `Aisha: Abdur−Rahman bin Abi Bakr came holding a Siwak with which he was cleaning his teeth. Allah's Apostle looked at him. I requested `Abdur−Rahman to give the Siwak to me and after he gave it to me I divided it, chewed it and gave it to Allah's Apostle. Then he cleaned his teeth with it and (at that time) he was resting against my chest. (“Sahih Bukhari”)

Narrated Aisha: Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) came to my house while two girls were singing beside me the songs of Buath (a story about the war between the two tribes of the Ansar, the Khazraj and the Aus, before Islam). The Prophet (p.b.u.h) lay down and turned his face to the other side. Then Abu Bakr came and spoke to me harshly saying, "Musical instruments of Satan near the Prophet (p.b.u.h) ?" Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) turned his face towards him and said, "Leave them." When Abu Bakr became inattentive, I signalled to those girls to go out and they left. It was the day of `Id, and the Black people were playing with shields and spears; so either I requested the Prophet (p.b.u.h) or he asked me whether I would like to see the display. I replied in the affirmative. Then the Prophet (p.b.u.h) made me stand behind him and my cheek was touching his cheek and he was saying, "Carry on! O Bani Arfida," till I got tired. The Prophet (p.b.u.h) asked me, "Are you satisfied (Is that sufficient for you)?" I replied in the affirmative and he told me to leave. (“Sahih Bukhari”) Narrated `Aisha: I asked Allah's Apostle about looking hither and thither in prayer. He replied, "It is a way of stealing by which Satan takes away (a portion) from the prayer of a person." (“Sahih Bukhari”)

Narrated `Aisha: (The wife of the Prophet) I had seen my parents following Islam since I attained the age of puberty. Not a day passed but the Prophet visited us, both in the mornings and evenings. My father Abu Bakr thought of building a mosque in the courtyard of his house and he did so. He used to pray and recite the Qur'an in it. The pagan women and their children used to stand by him and look at him with surprise. Abu Bakr was a Soft-hearted person and could not help weeping while reciting the Qur'an. The chiefs of the Quraish pagans became afraid of that (i.e. that their children and women might be affected by the recitation of Qur'an). (“Sahih Bukhari”)

Narrated Aisha: A lady along with her two daughters came to me asking (for some alms), but she found nothing with me except one date which I gave to her and she divided it between her two daughters, and did not eat anything herself, and then she got up and went away. Then the Prophet came in and I informed him about this story. He said, "Whoever is put to trial by these daughters and he treats them generously (with benevolence) then these daughters will act as a shield for him from Hellfire." (“Sahih Bukhari”)

Narrated Aisha: Once, the Prophet came to me while a man was in my house. He said, "O `Aisha! Who is this (man)?" I replied, "My foster brothers" He said, "O `Aisha! Be sure about your foster brothers, as fostership is only valid if it takes place in the suckling period (before two years of age). (“Sahih Bukhari”)

Narrated Aisha: The commencement (of the Divine Inspiration) to Allah's Apostle was- in the form of true dreams in his sleep, for he never had a dream but it turned out to be true and clear as the bright daylight. Then he began to like seclusions, so he used to go in seclusion in the cave of Hira where he used to worship Allah continuously for many nights before going back to his family to take the necessary provision (of food) for the stay. He come back to (his wife) Khadija again to take his provision (of food) likewise, till one day he received the Guidance while he was in the cave of Hira. An Angel came to him and asked him to read. Allah's Apostle replied, "I do not know how to read." The Prophet added, "Then the Angel held me (forcibly) and pressed me so hard that I felt distressed. Then he released me and again asked me to read, and I replied, 'I do not know how to read.' Thereupon he held me again and pressed me for the second time till I felt distressed. He then released me and asked me to read, but again I replied. 'I do not know how to read.' Thereupon he held me for the third time and pressed me till I got distressed, and then he released me and said, 'Read, in the Name of your Lord Who has created (all that exists), has created man out of a clot, Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous. Who has taught (the writing) by the pen, has taught man that which he knew not." (96.1−5). Then Allah's Apostle returned with that experience; and the muscles between his neck and shoulders were trembling till he came upon Khadija (his wife) and said, "Cover me!" They covered him, and when the state of fear was over, he said to Khadija, "O Khadija! What is wrong with me? I was afraid that something bad might happen to me." Then he told her the story. Khadija said, "Nay! But receive the good tidings! By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you, for by Allah, you keep good relations with your Kith and kin, speak the truth, help the poor and the destitute, entertain your guests generously and assist those who are stricken with calamities." Khadija then took him to Waraqa bin Naufil, the son of Khadija's paternal uncle. Waraqa had been converted to Christianity in the Pre−lslamic Period and used to write Arabic and write of the Gospel in Arabic as much as Allah wished him to write. He was an old man and had lost his eyesight. Khadija said (to Waraqa), "O my cousin! Listen to what your nephew is going to say." Waraqa said, "O my nephew! What have you seen?" The Prophet then described whatever he had seen. Waraqa said, "This is the same Angel (Gabriel) who was sent to Moses. I wish I were young." He added some other statement. Allah's Apostle asked, "Will these people drive me out?" Waraqa said, "Yes, for nobody brought the like of what you have brought, but was treated with hostility. If I were to remain alive till your day (when you start preaching) then I would support you strongly." But a short while later Waraqa died and the Divine Inspiration was paused (stopped) for a while so that Allah's Apostle was very much grieved. Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: While Allah's Apostle was talking about the period of pause in revelation. He said in his narration. "Once while I was walking, all of a sudden I heard a voice from the sky. I looked up and saw to my surprise, the same Angel as had visited me in the cave of Hira.' He was sitting on a chair between the sky and the earth. I got afraid of him and came back home and said, Wrap me! Wrap me!" So they covered him and then Allah revealed: 'O you, wrapped up! Arise and warn and your Lord magnify, and your garments purify and dessert the idols.' (74.1−5) Abu Salama said, "(Rijz) are the idols which the people of the Pre−lslamic period used to worship." After this the revelation started coming frequently and regularly. (“Sahih Bukhari”)

I’ve just included 15 hadith attributed to AISHA (UM) about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and these Ahadith are part of 2210 narrations that are attributed to her, attributed to the child they are speaking about as being rapped by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) while verily they are ignorant of everything and to the religion of Islam Aisha is considered a symbol which is similar to the modern history channel in the media international network. Male Muslims need to learn a lot from the prophet manners and desist from marrying children for the purpose of imitating the prophet as they are no prophets nor they seen what the prophet saw in his dream nor they have the manners of managing their marriage to a nine years old female unless they are up to the task. I will seal this discussion with a last narration of which it inspired me and I always loved to read and imitate when I am overwhelmed with Problems.

Narrated Anas:
I served the Prophet for ten years, and he never said to me, "Uf" (a minor harsh word denoting impatience) and never blamed me by saying, "Why did you do so or why didn't you do so?" (“Sahih Bukhari”)
