MR-Tools
The tools described in this technical file can be obtained from Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen. These tools are used to simplify troubleshooting and
rectification of errors in the event of problems. You can also launch these
tools using TAPCON-trol. TAPCON-trol must however be installed on your
PC.

2 Preparation

Preparation
Before you start the CopyMachine, MR-FlashTools or TAPCON_Update tools,
please note the following:

Connect PC and device with a 9 pin, uncrossed RS232 cable.

Connect RS232 cable to COM1 port on the front of the device.

This port is known as "COM2" on TAPCON 250.

The device must be switched on.

Ensure that the COM port used on the PC is not opened by or connected
to another application.

The "CopyMachine.exe", "MR_Flashtools.exe" and


"TAPCON_Update.exe" tools must be launched by a describable data
carrier of at least 20 MB.

Memory capacity of data carrier

If the "CopyMachine.exe", "MR_Flashtools.exe" or


"TAPCON_Update.exe" is located on a CD or DVD, copy onto the PC's
hard disk.

Take a note of the baud rate set in the device. This is needed for communication between the PC and device. To find out what baud rate is set
in the device, please consult the corresponding operating instructions.

3 CopyMachine

CopyMachine
The CopyMachine can be used to download device firmware and data. This
data is then evaluated by Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen to remedy faults. The
following files are created using the CopyMachine and are needed for the
evaluation:

If you are using the CopyMachine with TAPCON-trol software, please read
the TAPCON-trol operating instructions relating to this subject.

Proceed as follows to back up the device firmware and data:


As soon as you start to back up the data, all device functions are stopped.
Once the process of backing up data is complete, the device is automatically
restarted. It is then ready for operation again.
1.

Go to Extras > CopyMachine.

Under Interface, set the corresponding COM interface and baud rate.

Select the baud rate which is configured in the device. To find out what baud
rate is set in the device, please consult the corresponding operating
instructions.

Click on the Connect button to establish a connection to the device.

The "Connected" message appears in the status bar when the connection has been successfully established.

After downloading, click on the Close button to close the CopyMachine.

4 MR-FlashTools

MR-FlashTools
If there are any changes to the device firmware, MR-FlashTools allows you to
update the device software on the device.
Before you open MR-FlashTools, you must save the transferred updated file
locally to your PC. Proceed as follows to upload data to the device:
1.

Launch "MR_FlashTools.exe" by double-clicking.


The "MR-FlashTools" dialog window opens.

Select the language you want from the list under Choose language.

Connect PC and device with uncrossed 9 pin cable at RS232 interface.

Disconnecting device from mains.


The device is switched off.

Under "Select file", select the file to be transferred from the device directory.

With a TAPGUARD 260, you must select a *.mcf file. For all other devices,
please select a *.h86 file.

Under Mode, select the Typical option.With a TAPCON 250, select


"TAPCON250".

Select the baud rate which is configured in the device. To find out what baud
rate is set in the device, please consult the corresponding operating
instructions.

10. Under Communication, set the desired Interface and Baud rate.
11. Click on the Connect button to load the firmware.

All LEDs on the device light up.


12. Data transfer starts.
You can follow the transfer's status on the progress bar. Once all data has
been transferred, the device restarts automatically. Then proceed as follows:
1.

Disconnect PC and device.

2.

Check whether data has been correctly transferred:


Call up "<00> Info" display in device. To call up this display, please
read the corresponding operating instructions.

The time and date under "Info" indicate when the last upload was undertaken.
If this data has changed, the upload was a success.

5 TAPCON update

TAPCON update
The TAPCON_Update tool is used to update parameters on the device. This
can be done along with a firmware update or independently. If done along
with a firmware update, the firmware must have been updated first.
Proceed as follows:
1.

Connect PC and device with uncrossed 9 pin cable at RS232 interface.

2.

Extract the "TAPCON_Update" archiving file locally to a folder on the PC


hard disk.

3.

Switch on device.

4.

Launch "TAPCON_Update.exe" by double-clicking.

Select "Setup".
The "PreferencesForm" dialog window appears.

Under "COMPortGroupBox", select the corresponding COM interface.

5 TAPCON update

Select the baud rate which is configured in the device. To find out what baud
rate is set in the device, please consult the corresponding operating
instructions.
7.

Select the language you want (German or English).

8.

Confirm with "OK".


The settings are saved.

9.

Select "Send".
The parameters are uploaded.
You can follow the transfer's status on the progress bar.

If the device does not respond and data transfer does not start, proceed as
follows:
Check whether the device is fully powered up.
Click on the "Send" button for a second time.

After uploading the parameters, Disconnecting device from mains.


The device is switched off

Connecting device to mains.


The device is switched on.

The parameters are updated. The device is ready for operation.
