Hello everyone, my name is Ni Putu Putri Chandra Paramita.

My friends
usually called me Mita. I am a nursing student in polytechnic of health
Denpasar. Now I would like to tell you about my experience in Tabanan General
Hospital where I got my first practice experience. First thing here I wanna talk
about is the system in my campus.
Here in Polytechnic of Health Denpasar, we have a system for all the students.
They must have a practice experience in a real hospital. My campus have an
agreement with all the general hospital in each regency in Bali. Because of that
agreement, all of the nursing student in polytechnic of Health Denpasar can
experience a real practice in the hospital on last May 2016. I got my first
experience in Tabanan regency. In my campus, the students divided into some
groups when were practice at the hospital. I practice in Tabanan General
Hospital with my group that consist of 6 people in my class including me. They
are Desya, Siayu, Bella, Dayu Puspayani, Era and of course me. Actually, there
were also 2 other groups from the other class that practiced in Tabanan General
Hospital too.
On last May, my group were practiced in the Cempaka ward. I met many good
healthcare provider there. I met not only the doctors and nurses, but also
midwifery. They were really welcome to us and teach us many useful things.
Although we werent study about teory yet, the senior nurses there still teach us
the real practice patiently. Oh yeah I almost forgot to say that The Cempaka
ward consist of some different type of room and patient, such as internist,
surgical operation, maternity, and VIP room.
My practice in the hospital divided into three kind of shift. There are morning,
evening and night shift. I really enjoy studying about many things in this
hospital. Two things that I cant forgot when I had a morning shift was the
wound treatment at 09.00 a.m, delivered and pick the patient from the operating
theatre. Why this two things ? It was because in the morning shift we did this
two things regularly and wound treatment was interesting to learn the step. At
first I just observed all the step from my senior there, but after my first and
second observation, the senior asked me to try the step by my self. The main
thing that made me happy was because they trust me to do the step alone.
We have been told that the evening shift didint have many work to do. So my
group agreed to do the evening shift alone, without partner. It was different with
the morning and night shift. In the morning and night shift I did the practice
together with one of my friends.

My interesting experience began when I had my first night shift in the Cempaka
Ward, Tabanan General Hospital. The night shift in Tabanan General Hospital
began at 08.00 p.m until 08.00 a.m in the morning. At that time, I was on the
night shift alone because we dont know that we mustnt be alone in the night
shift, so we havent change our schedule yet. I agreed with my friends that I
would do the night shift alone only once that time. At the beginning of the night
shift, the senior nurse asked me to help them prepared medicine for the patients
in Cempaka Ward. After that, I didnt have much work again, beside replaced
the infusion for the patients. It was yesterday when I had my night shift, so there
were many visitors at the Cempaka Ward. Time for the visitors usually closed
at10 p.m and we could hear the announcement for the closing time from the
speakers in each ward. When there was no visitor again, I followed my senior to
meet the patient and gave them the medicine wether it was injected or took it by
oral. Soon after all the patients took a rest and my senior took a rest too, I had a
duty to stay awake and listened to the patient if they need anything else. In the
midnight, one of the patient with dengue fever called for help to the nurse
station. He confused wether his infusion was already ran out or it was stuck by
blood in his hand. When I checked his situation, and looked at his hand, I knew
that the infusion is stuck by coagulated blood and needed some treatment there.
Because this was my first time doing practice at the hospital, I still dont really
know how to manage this problem. I tried to wake my senior up, but he refused
to wake up and asked me to handle it by myself because I already observed the
steps twice. I tried to remember the steps and with all my braveness I collected
the equipment then brought them to the patient. I felt really afraid if I made any
mistake when I helped the patient that night. I still tried to calm myself and also
my patient by gave him some explanation why his infusion got stuck with
coagulated blood. I really tried to made him trust me, because if he didnt trust
me, he would refused the treatment and it wouldnt end well although he must
had a treatment really soon.
While I fixed his infusion, he tried to asked me if I was a new student that
practice there. I agreed with his question with my smile. Finally, I could free his
infusion from the coagulated blood, although there were some problem with the
needle and I must repeat it because it didnt success at the first try. I felt really
sorry for my patient because I took so much time than the actual time for the
this treatment. I was trying to apologies, but he just said that he was happy with
my helped and prayed for my success on my study and become a good nurse
soon. I felt really glad to hear that from my patient although I couldt success at
my first try.

Okay I think thats all my interesting story from my practice in Tabanan General
Hospital. Im sorry If I did something wrong. The last but not least, thanks for
your attention. Good bye!
