Air Intake and Exhaust System

Brief Description
Gas turbine performance and reliability is a function of the quality and cleanliness of
the inlet air entering the turbine. Therefore, for most efficient operation, it is necessary
to treat the atmospheric air entering the turbine and filter out contaminants.
It is the function of the air inlet system with its specially designed equipment and ducting to modify the quality of the air under various temperature, humidity and contamination situations and make it more suitable for use in the unit.
Hot exhaust gases produced as a result of combustion in the turbine are attenuated in
the exhaust system ducting before being released to atmosphere. These exhaust
emissions must meet certain environmental standards of cleanliness and acoustic levels depending on site location.
The noise generated during gas turbine operation is attenuated by means of absorptive
silencing material and devices built into the inlet and exhaust sections which dissipate
or reduce the acoustical energy to an acceptable level.

Technical Details

Air Intake and Exhaust System

The intake duct is located between the air filter and the entrance chamber to the compressor. The duct is built on a supporting structure, and is attached to the filterhouse
and entrance chamber to the compressor by means of compensators.
Noise-suppressing brackets are installed in an offset one-row arrangement with silencers within the duct in order to reduce the level of noise in the air intake system to the
required value.
A steel screen is installed in the duct in order to protect the compressor.
A manhole is provided for inspection purposes. The duct is made of edged stainless
steel plate. The brackets are made of galvanized steel plate and are filled with absorption material.

3.3.2

Functional Description
The intake duct carries the combustion air for the gas turbine between the air intake filter and the compressor.
In order to avoid the transmission of structure-borne noise and in order to compensate
for assembly tolerances, the intake duct is connected to the filterhouse and compressor
chamber components via compensators.

Exhaust System

3.4.1

Technical Details

Air Intake and Exhaust System

The exhaust system is located on the exhaust side of the gas turbine unit and takes the
exhaust gases into the outside atmosphere via the stack assembly and the exhaust
duct with built-in noise-suppressors (silencer cassettes).
The exhaust gas stack is made of heat-resistant Stainless steel plate.

3.4.2

Functional Description
The turbine exhaust gas system has 2 functions to perform, namely
1) to take the exhaust gases from the GT exhaust ducting and to emit them into the
outside atmosphere.
2) to ensure that the noise emitted by the plant is contained within acceptable limits by
means of built-in noise-suppressing brackets.
