A Franciscan Reflection
Reflecting on the Cross, Francis
prayed, "Oh Lord, I beg of you
two graces before I die--to
experience personally and in all
possible fullness the pains of your
bitter passion, and to feel for you
the same love that moved you
to sacrifice yourself to us."
~St Francis of Assisi

We send our condolences to the family of

Rosalie Hartman.

Both the Pharisee and the Tax

Collector in this Sunday's Gospel
addressed God in prayer.
The content of their prayer,
however is radically different.
The Pharisee's prayer is about
himself and was turned toward
self. The tax collector's prayer,
by contrast, was turned toward
God in the true self knowledge of who he was.
Jesus declares the tax collector justified, not the
Pharisee. Justification--right relationship with
God--comes only from knowing ourselves as God
knows us. Paradoxically, true humility is exaltation. Exaltation is the gift received while being
one's true self before God and others. Pray this
week that each of us may have a right relationship with God----of dependency, of humility, and
a need of mercy. Let each of us be a people of
prayer, not just by words, but truly being honest
with ourselves, and seeking the everyday relationship with God that we desire so much--peace
of mind, body and heart! Whenever we come
to Church, it is not because of the greatness that
WE DO,,,but we come to experience and celebrate the greatness that GOD CAN DO! God desires to nourish us, transform us, and send us to
do the same. Let us be people of openness and
acceptance of what God offers us, surrender to
God's action, and joy in whom God makes us to
be!

Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
