TEACHER TIPS

Lucy

The overlapping stories of three charactersLucy, Eleanor,

and Eleanors fatherplay out in four acts. Discuss with
students what the word act means in this context.
The first three acts begin nearly the same way, but there are
slight differences shown in the illustrations as the story
progresses. In pairs, have students read the text and examine
the illustrations closely, then make lists of the differences.
Through Lucys dreams, the reader gets a glimpse of her
previous life. Have students write and illustrate a story about
what they imagine a day in that life was like for Lucy.
