Measure A

Support raising tax

half a cent for forty years
car congestion gone
Measure A is a proposal to raise sales tax in the County of San Diego by a half a cent for the next forty years. Within the
forty years, Measure A will produce approximately $18 billion dollars. That money will be used to repair roads, fill potholes, add
carpool lanes to highways, and increase public transit frequency. Additionally, Measure A will make sidewalk repairs and
increase bike lanes, making the city more pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly.It allows for 25,000 acres of open space preservation. In
the open space, fire chiefs would lead active brush removal/open space management to help prevent wildfires. All the money
generated cannot be taken by Sacramento and will be used only throughout San Diego County.

Solve problems first, then expand
No more pollution

By voting yes on measure A, you agree to raise sales tax by

half a cent for the next 40 years which will accumulate
approximately 18 billion dollars that would be used for public
transit, local infrastructure and highways.
Road repair is needed throughout the County of San Diego.
According to Citizens for a Better San Diego, 67% of San
Diegos roads are rated poor or mediocre. Road repair
financed by Measure A would include fixing potholes on
streets and dangerous curves and on/off ramp adjustments to
ensure safer driving.
In addition, Measure A will relieve traffic congestion and
improve public transit. In an effort to relieve traffic, this
measure will add HOV/carpool lanes to freeways as well as
rapid bus lanes and improve connectors to keep traffic moving
which will reduce idling and reduce pollution. Todd Gloria,
City Councilman, states that Measure A will increase public
transit frequency, encouraging more to use public
transportation and keep fewer cars on the road.
Measure A will also generate more jobs in road and
infrastructure repair, as well as in public transportation due to
the increased frequency of use. Most importantly, the $18
billion generated must be spent locally, which means that
Sacramento cannot take it away.

A no vote means that we won't get locked into a 40-year,

half-cent increased sales tax that would disproportionately
affect the poor. By voting no, youre looking out for the
environment. Expanding would lead to more cars, which are
the biggest contributors to the climate crisis. San Diego is
currently working to reach its climate crisis goal by trying to
cut its carbon footprint by 50%. By voting no, you would also
prevent expansions of the freeway and highway lanes in
poorer, more polluted communities that aren't fit for
expansion, such as National City and Barrio Logan.
We need to solve the smaller things while trying to create
a safer environment for the future before we can move on to
expanding transportation solutions.

You know what, we will agree to finance some freeway

expansion in order to get a massive increase in public transit
for our community.

--San Diego City Councilman Todd

Gloria

"Communities like Barrio Logan, but not just exclusive to

Barrio Logan, suffer from respiratory illnesses because of the
pollution, the emissions from freeways that are right in middle
of these communities..And this initiative ... proposes to
continue to bring more cars to a lot of those communities that
already suffer from that." --San Diego City Councilman David
Alvarez
