Rev. Carmella Jones

Sunday School Hour Guest, November 6
American Baptist International Ministries missionary
Carmella Jones will be at First Baptist this Sunday,
Nov. 6. She will be speaking during the Sunday
school hour. The Reverend Carmella Jones is preparing to serve in Hungary as a school chaplain through
IM partner Hungarian Baptist Aid. In this position,
Carmella will act as a listening presence and offer pastoral care to students, families and the school community. Her experience in theological and nursing education uniquely equips her to teach
and support spiritual and physical well-being.
Carmella, a registered nurse and ordained ABCUSA pastor, is experienced in Faith
Community Nursing, a specialty that promotes healing and health of mind, body and
spirit through prevention and wellness education. As an integrator of faith and health,
Carmella will seek to provide care in the context of peoples values, beliefs and faith
practices when providing personal health counseling or assisting with navigating the
health system.
Carmella earned her Masters of Divinity Degree from Wesley Theological Seminary
in 2012 and a Master of Art in Community Health Education and Wellness Promotion
from Trinity Washington University in 1997. In 2015, Carmella was honored with the
Crystal M. Lange College of Health and Human Services Distinguished Alumna award
from Saginaw Valley State University, where she had earned a Bachelor of Science in

November 13 Thou My Best Thought, by Day or by Night
(Isaiah 65.17-25)
November 20 Be Thou My Wisdom, and Thou My True Word
(Colossians 1.11-20)

Transportation Grant Received

A few months ago, the Spiritual Formation Ministry applied for a
Matthew 25 Grant from ABC/USA. We have received $1200 to help
with transportation needs in Lawrence. We will work with various
agencies in Lawrence to meet the needs.
According to the ABC/USA website, the Matthew 25 Grants are
designed to channel gifts to help meet the needs of housing, feeding,
education and health with regard to the less fortunate.

The worlds largest Christmas project of its

kind, Operation Christmas Child, uses giftfilled shoeboxes to demonstrate Gods love
in a tangible way to children in need around
the world. Individuals, families, churches and
groups fill empty shoeboxes with a wow
itemlike a doll or soccer balland other
fun toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and
notes of encouragement. During National
Collection Week in November, Samaritans
Purse collects the gift-filled shoeboxes at
more than 4,000 drop-off sites in all 50 states
and Puerto Rico. Pick up dates at First
Baptist are from November 14 November 21. For each box, please include $7
postage (payable to First Baptist Church with
Operation Christmas Child on the memo line). If
youd rather adopt a box you may contribute $7 for someone elses postage and/or
