1) Check for incorrect data entry

2) Recode negatively worded items

3) Recode missing value using mean substitution

4) Compute a total hope score

5) Screen the normality for total hope

6) Attempt a square root transformation on total hope and compare the output
of this transformation with the distribution of the normal (untransformed)
variable.
