Introduction: What are inconjuncts? There are two types of inconjunct: the semisextile and the quincunx.

These aspects are related to each other through the opposition, as follows. The inconjunct (150°) plus the semisextile (30°) = the opposition (180°). The inconjunct indicates adjustments, often catastrophic in nature. E.g., the body gets out of balance, either physically, in which one can fall down and injure oneself, or physiologically, which, if continued long enough, produces serious illness. Or the tensions between the masses of rock comprising the crust of the Earth in a certain area become more and stressed; the stress finally becomes so great that something gives, and there is an earthquake. Or a large asteroid impacts the Earth, or a pack of comets barrel in, exploding above the Earth with gigaton force as well as impact it with even more force; as a result, part or all of a continent is devastated, and a Great Extinction results, wiping out whole taxonomic orders or even classes of organisms. Such rapid, catastrophic adjustments can take lives and destroy communities, or even the biomes of whole continents. The dinosaurs were apparently wiped out that way. And the greatest of the Great Extinctions, which closed out the Permian Period and initiated the Mesozoic Era of Earthly life, rendering extinct the trilobites and most other life on both land and sea, was almost certainly due to the combined effects of the impact of a very large asteroid and the vast outpouring of basalt lavas in Siberia, which produced the Siberian Traps, which that impact triggered. On the other hand, every disaster opens up opportunities which lucky and astute organisms can then exploit to make a living. Often, before the disaster occurred, those lucky organisms were on the margins of existence, perhaps on the way to extinction. But thanks to the shift in things created by the disaster, conditions change so radically that many of those former evolutionary losers suddenly find themselves in the midst of what is, for them, a cornucopia of delights and the things they need to survive. This is what has occurred after every extinction event on our world. For example, after the EndPermian Event, which rendered extinct many of the amphibia which had been on the way to becoming dominant in their world and reduced the protomammals, which were then likewise on the verge of great things, to relatively minor niches, some formerly minor orders of proto-reptiles underwent an explosive evolutionary radiation, producing the archosauria, including the dinosaurs, flying reptiles, snakes, turtles, lizards, and the great sea-dragons such as the mososaurs and the ichthyosaurs. Excluding the teleost and cartilaginous fish, the archosauria were the dominant vertebrates of the Mesozoic Era, which lasted from around 245 MgY (millions of years) ago to 65 MgY ago – a run of 180 million years, which is damned successful in anyone’s terms! :-) Thus, while for most forms of Earthly life other than bacteria and viruses the Terminal Permian Event was a horrifying, lethal catastrophe of unimaginable proportions – some estimates of the losses are as much as 96% or more of all non-microbial species – for a few lucky organisms who somehow managed to be in the right place at the right time, it created splendid opportunities for advancement that enabled them to repopulate the Earth on land and in the seas with brand-new forms of life that are among the most glorious that every lived. So inconjuncts indicate catastrophes. At the same time, they indicate the opportunities that inevitably open up in the aftermath of those catastrophes which, if exploited properly, can make the difference between the extinction of a formerly marginal species or individuals and thriving new lifeforms, corporations, communities, and individual organisms, including human beings. An old jingle some wag came up with in the aftermath of the 1906 Great San Francisco Earthquake says it best: In nineteen-ought-six, in San Francisco, God was feeling frisky; He burned all the churches down – But spared Hotaling’s Whiskey!  Sun inconjunct Mars Natives of this aspect are learning to assert themselves, to be considerate in action and accept other people’s ways of doing things. They are challenged to overcome fear of rejection, control aggressive impulses, and forego the need to prove oneself. This aspect indicates a self-reliant nature. She has a taste for individual initiative, wanting to act in order to further her own purposes. The desire to take initiative and the ability to motivate others gives her excellent leadership potential. It is difficult for her to express aggression, either repressing her assertive instincts or becoming hyper-aggressive. If the former, she will find it difficult to take initiative or assert herself, attracting people who discourage assertiveness or initiative, and gravitate toward circumstances which make it

impossible to take initiative. In that case, she will tend to be passive, presenting a mild exterior or developing a bland personality. She may experience claustrophobic feelings in relationships. If she goes the other way, however, she will tend to be hard-working and physically active, striving to prove herself strong, active, and courageous, or taking pains to develop physical prowess. She may have romantic fantasies or heroic fantasies. There may be a fear of rejection if she backs down because, to her, backing down is an admission of cowardice, which she would detest; she may therefore take foolhardy risks. She can be very susceptible to challenge because of a need to prove that she dares. The tendency to attract people who accept her strengths but not her weaknesses, puts her under great pressure to perform. Sometimes natives of this type have a low tolerance for frustration, and may become violent when thwarted. The Sun-Mars inconjunct indicates a tendency to hide or deny one’s strength or power. She may be reluctant to assert herself because others may think it improper, and instead attempt to experience her power vicariously. Such people may either compete subtly with others or be attracted to those who will act out their needs. Their aggressive needs can lead them into abusive relationships. Some of these natives may be victims of threats, battering, or sexual abuse. Others may force themselves into forbidden actions or situations, and enter into unacceptable occupations, against the threat of social rejection. In the process, they may suffer all sorts of attacks of privations. An excessive need for action is indicated. There is a tendency to act without consideration of the consequences. Therefore these natives wind up acting first and apologizing later. They may attract people who force them to justify their actions. They may be unable to act unless they can explain and justify their intentions. Some of these natives can be set in their ways and resist the challenge of doing things differently. They may also attract people who resist new ways of doing things. These natives ultimately develop a philosophy about war and peace, health, hard work, and right action. The need for action eventually leads them to accept risk as a fact of life. Sun inconjunct Uranus The theme here is individuality. These natives are learning to resist conformity, take a stand, and tolerate the differences of others. They are challenged to overcome the fear of rejection. This aspect indicates an original and inventive nature. Natives are interested in the new and unusual. They are intellectually competitive, independent thinkers with penetrating insights. They have a talent for abstract thought, something which may make them rather impersonal. They can be very idealistic when it comes to liberty and independence. Ultimately their philosophy of life comes to be based on the principle of individuality. This aspect indicates a conflict between individuality and social acceptance. Natives have a strong sense of individuality, which they feel compelled to guard. They are attracted to people who perceive individualism as rebelliousness and are intolerant of eccentricities. They may repress their urges toward independence. If they conform, they do it in quiet or subtle protest which may take the form of eccentric or unpredictable behavior. Some natives worry about being rejected because they look or act in ways different from most people. They may need to justify their differences or apologize for their individualistic tendencies. Some natives want to break with the past, but can’t do this openly, while others defiantly adopt radical views. The challenge here is to find a middle ground between giving society what it needs and preserving one’s own individuality. Natives of this aspect want to be original and creative. They want to do things in their own way, but lack the discipline to achieve things by themselves. They are attracted either to rebels who withhold complete acceptance from them, or to conservatives who reject their creative work. They tend to hide strong feelings behind a mild exterior. Many natives have difficulty expressing anger directly, and as a result of holding their anger and resentment in, they experience a lot of tension and anxiety. Perversity, erratic behavior, or inconsistency become subtle ways of striking back. Some natives desire to shock others by playing the devil’s advocate. A tendency to attack others’ basic premises at the roots makes people fear or resent them. They want to upset the status quo without leaving anything to fill the void thus created. Their need to shock people into realization merely creates resistance. They would be better off learning to use humor or allegory to get the message across. There may be a resistance to close relationships due to an excessive need for independence. These natives may avoid close involvement with others because they fear compromise of personal freedom and independence. They tend toward impersonality, and often prefer friendship or arm’s-length “intimacy” to marriage. They may attract impersonal people who keep them at a distance. They can become willfully set in their ways and intolerant of other people’s habits or eccentricities. Their own unusual habits

discourage others from living with them as well. These natives may be reluctant to trust people because they fear sudden rejection or reversals of fortune. They therefore attract people who confirm this fear and reinforce the need to remain separate. This inconjunct indicates a natural inclination toward original and independent effort. These natives might be drawn to writing, art, free-form demolitions, or other creative activities. An original approach to problems might indicate a talent for troubleshooting or invention. A rebellious and independent mind might point to legal talent. They might make good lawyers, advocates, or shop stewards. Sun inconjunct Neptune Natives of this placement are learning to use imagination, make commitments, and accept the spiritual dimension of life. She is challenged to overcome fear of rejection, to communicate clearly, and avoid escapist tendencies. She has a highly imaginative nature. She has a strong taste for art, music, or poetry. She can visualize strong and use her imagination effectively. Mystical tendencies and religious inclination lead to the development of strong spiritual values. They ultimately learn to integrate mystical sensibilities into a coherent life philosophy and inspire others to faith. This aspect makes for difficulties in making and sticking to decisions. There is a tendency to be indecisive. Suggestibility and impractical goals can make it difficult for her to make realistic decisions. There is a tendency to operate on the basis of confused or ambivalent motives, which causes her to vacillate. Decisions based upon idealistic considerations require frequent revision. Aimlessness and lack of clarity serve to undermine their authority. A major part of the problem is a tendency to conform to the needs of others and accept unfair obligations. Therefore people tend to take them for granted and presume to make further demands. These natives tend to be too easily affected by other people’s feelings. An unwillingness to disappoint others causes them to apologize for their actions and justify their intentions. A desire for acceptance makes it difficult for them to implement the decisions they do make, and undermines their effectiveness. These natives become more forceful when they realize that indecision doesn’t win acceptance, but rather contempt for weakness. Daily life may be difficult due to escapist tendencies. These natives may have rich fantasy lives. Over-imaginative inclinations and romantic notions make it difficult for them to see things as they really are. Fantasy and daydreaming impedes their productivity and undermines their effectiveness, and absentmindedness causes costly errors. Many natives try to conform to popular social models. The tendency to relate to others on the basis of illusion results in disappointments. Drugs or alcohol may provide escape routes from the commitments and pressures of daily life; these natives must take c not to overindulge themselves, for in time they could become addicted. Problems due to ambivalence and self-doubt are indicated. These natives find it difficult to accept themselves. Self-doubt and inner uncertainty causes them to seek reassurance from others. Lack of faith in their projects makes them supersensitive to criticism. Therefore they feel compelled to explain or justify themselves. Many natives attract people who show a false interest in them, withhold acceptance from them, or else extend it conditionally. There is a strong tendency to make commitments or take on obligations in order to win acceptance. Uncertainty of purpose or intention creates confusion in communication. Conflicting signals, double meanings, and mixed messages make mutual understanding impossible. These natives experience ambivalence from others until they clarify their own motives. They must forego the temptation to harbor illusions about others and accept people as they are in order to find fulfillment in relationship. This inconjunct indicates a potential talent for visual or image-based work such as the arts, photography, or the cinema. An attraction to illusion suggests theater, fashion, or cosmetology as occupations. Mystical inclinations indicate poetry, music, or religion for outlet. These natives might also consider careers as drug counselors or bartenders. Sun inconjunct Pluto The theme here is acceptance of change. These natives are learning to tolerate uncertainty, be diplomatic, and accept that others have a right to their beliefs. They are challenged to put aside obsessions, overcome the fear of rejection, and be less dogmatic. One very good discipline for such people to take up is Alchemy, by which one undergoes spiritual and physical transformation by working in certain ways with physical materials. This aspect indicates a persistent nature, with an ability to investigate, analyze, and plan. These

natives have a talent for psychology; they want to know what makes people tick. They may be motivated by a desire to reform or transform others, but they must learn to temper penetrating insights with tact and diplomacy. Perseverance is one of their major assets, but they must also let go of old intentions to order to permit self-renewal. They have difficulties in relationships due to a need for control and certainty. These natives can become obsessed with a fear or rejection, and may become obsessed with worries about the future. The need to be absolutely certain of others’ feelings makes them sensitive to the slightest nuances in others’ reactions. A tendency to assume the worst makes them clinging and oppressive. Fear of uncertainty makes them interrogate people about their feelings and intentions. Fear of the unexpected and a need to anticipate all possibilities makes them obsess about the future. They want to know what to expect so that they can be prepared for it. Their need to know the details of people’s lives leaves others with too little privacy and finally pushes them away. Many of these natives attract obsessive or clinging people. They also seem attracted to manipulative people who control them by withholding acceptance or threatening rejection. They may have tendencies toward obsessive behavior. These natives seem to be obsessed about everything in their lives. They may worry about work, health, hygiene, or personal appearance. Some of these natives are obsessively neat, while others are slovenly. The former cannot tolerate disorder and seem repelled by disarray. Many of these natives have difficulty living in the present. Either they fantasize about the future or dwell in the past. They may feel apologetic about their own existence. Apology, justification, and explanation are constant concerns. Wherever they are, whatever they do, they want to be ready to explain or justify themselves. Their excuses or explanations are carefully thought out and rehearsed. They tend to analyze, analyze, analyze and think out, figure out, work out the reasons, meanings, intentions, motivations behind things, and then analyze, analyze still further. They want to know exactly what they are doing and why they are doing it in order to explain themselves to others. They have a compulsion to verify and prove. But real life can’t be so thoroughly anticipated, and these natives wind up having to toss out their carefully prepared arguments. They tend to be stilted and unspontaneous, clinging to agendas which are patently inappropriate because of an intolerance for uncertainty. They can also be very doctrinaire or dogmatic. They resist change and try to ignore the things that don’t conform to their preconceived notions of things. They eventually come to realize that they can’t pigeonhole life, and learn to relax and develop a be-here-now philosophy. They learn to accept chance and let go of their obsessions. This inconjunct indicates potential talent for healing. These natives might make excellent psychologists or medical doctors, or, perhaps, practitioners of holistic or alternative therapies. They may find satisfaction in research and analysis. An interest and ability to transform other’s views and emotions may interest them in sales, advertising, or the theater. Moon inconjunct Neptune The theme here is emotional ambivalence. These natives are learning to communicate clearly and make emotional commitments. They are challenged to forego the need for approval, overcome selfdoubt, and avoid escapist tendencies. This aspect indicates visually oriented, creative talent. Natives are often empathic and impressionable, and are likely to be strongly psychic. They are attracted to music, the graphic arts, or poetry, and may have talent for expressing the fantasies, feelings, or illusions of others. They tend to have a rich fantasy life, which may at times lead them to confuse illusion with reality. The natives suffer from a wavering self-image. They may be beset with self-doubt, and crave praise and encouragement from others. They attract people who prey upon this need by withholding approval or offering it conditionally, especially in childhood, when they become the targets of abuse and predation. The natives tend to be confused by ambivalence and messages which can encode more than one meaning. Often they attract to themselves people who are vacillating and ambivalent in their feelings. Some natives have difficulty assessing their impact on others. Lack of trust in their own feelings makes the natives doubt their own perceptions and emotional reactions. Some natives have poor memories, or find it difficult to concentrate; they tend to be inattentive because they are prone to escapist fantasies which remove them from the present moment. Such fantasies may involve thoughts or fears of humiliation. Some natives may seek escape through drugs or alcohol, while others are motivated to help others overcome substance abuse and related problems. Due to their chronic uncertainty and confusion, natives may have difficult expressing their emotions. Often they don’t know what they really feel. Because of their spontaneous empathic talent, they have a

tendency to pick up and express the emotions of others, which can create serious relationship problems because others become angry or fearful when confronted by their own, very secret feelings. These natives may be chronically sad, but feel pressured to feign more positive feelings. Some find themselves obligated to feign more positive feelings. Some find themselves obligated to control their emotions, while others can’t seem to develop any emotional self-control. Members of the latter group may cry excessively in order to gain sympathy, or simply be unable to get over their sorrow. Ephemeral feelings may present a problem for them. They have to be careful, because their sympathetic, empathetic nature may leave them open to victimization by people who feign emotions for advantage. Therefore they must take care to avoid making commitments on the basis of transient emotions. The Moon-Neptune inconjunct indicates that fulfillment of obligation is a sensitive issue. Acceptance of one’s obligations becomes a trap for these natives because they can’t seem to say NO! They feel pressured to accept burdens in order to avoid disapproval, and consequently attract people who lean on them for emotional support and other types of psychic vampires. They can be loyal and ethical, but when they are, often it isn’t reciprocated. These natives fulfill their commitments toward others, but they can’t seem to get people to make or fulfill commitments toward them. People tend to cultivate them for ulterior reasons, losing interest in and dumping them once they are no longer useful. Many of the natives become suspicious, even paranoid, always worrying about the possibility of being deceived, distrusting others. They overreact emotionally to others’ misinterpreted statements and innocent actions. Eventually the natives solve such problems by clarifying their own needs, learning to communicate more clearly, and risking adverse reactions by saying and meaning no. Natives of this aspect can do well in the theater, the arts, or advertising. The aspect might also be useful for artists, photographers, musicians, fund raisers, travel agents, airline attendants, or bartenders. It lends itself to mystical or spiritual pursuits such as poetry or religion. The natives are often able to inspire others through their visionary experiences and creations, as artists, religious leaders, or mystics. Mercury inconjunct Saturn The theme here is intellectual maturity. These natives are learning to think realistically and speak responsibly. They are challenged to stop discouraging others, accept constructive criticism, and participate in the exploration of new ideas. This aspect is associated with a disciplined and scientific mind which strives to be rational, realistic, and pragmatic. These natives learn to think before they speak, and eventually develop the patience to take the time think things through. They develop ideas by testing their validity and practicality. However, they may be so rigorous that they never have enough proof to satisfy their skepticism. They want to see things in concrete terms. Their thinking is traditional and conservative in at least some areas and they may be intellectually rigid and resistant to new ideas. This inconjunct indicates a tendency to measure oneself against impossibly high intellectual standards. This leads to fears of intellectual inferiority and incompetence, which causes the natives to become reserved. They start to think that they should speak only when they have something profound to say, something usually pessimistic or discouraging. When they do have something important to say, they are forced by circumstances and the need to be responsible to wait interminably before they can express themselves. It isn’t unusual for them to be faced with some form of censorship by unreasonable authorities. They learn that the practical result of speaking up is additional burdens or responsibility, causing them to become even more circumspect in their speech. Many of the natives tend to feel defensive over the quality and acceptability of their ideas. Unconsciously they may fear ostracism for holding heretical views. They can be very sensitive to criticism, taking it as an attack on their competence. Their predilection for slow, structured though helps them to be thorough, but solitude is required for them to be at their best. This makes it difficult for them to respond to criticism extemporaneously. As a result, they become unapproachable, discouraging challenge. One of their favorite tricks for accomplishing this is to become simultaneously authoritative and impatient, effectively denying others the time and opportunity to speak or develop their thoughts. This may have the undesired effect of isolating these natives from any critical feedback. This aspect can be appropriate for scientific or mathematical work. Natives of this aspect also make good teachers, editors, or proofreaders. This combination gives the potential for discipline and digital dexterity, something that can help one to become a typist, court stenographer, or musician. Mercury inconjunct Neptune

The theme here is creative imagination. These natives are learning to trust their intuition, to use their imagination in productive ways, and to inspire others with their visions. They are challenged to think more realistically, communicate clearly, and forego temptations to escapism. This aspect endows the natives with excellent imaginations and talent for imagery and fantasy. The natives are likely to develop an ability to move others through art, music, poetry, or mystical vision. They learn to use imagery and metaphor to get their point across. Often they are highly receptive and impressionable, or even psychic. They tend to be romantic and idealistic, qualities which may become so pronounced that they can cloud realistic perception and rational thought. Therefore the natives are prone to untested fanciful or utopian ideals which are bound to disappoint them. This aspect is often associated with escapist tendencies. The natives are often easily distracted, find concentration difficult, or daydream incessantly. This makes them prone to mistakes because their lack of attention to the here and now creates misunderstandings. Therefore they need to set fantasy aside in order to perceive the world more realistically. An innate eagerness to accept on faith what others tell them should be curtailed because it makes them vulnerable to deceit. Many of the natives suffer from intellectual self-doubt and need reassurance about the validity of their views. Their intellectual uncertainty makes them vulnerable to counterclaims. They may react to criticism by vacillating in their beliefs, which makes it difficult to stick to decisions. Their undisciplined and unstructured thinking tends to foster confusion and unfounded fears. At times they may be forced to contend with other people’s unfounded fears and beliefs. Their ambivalence causes them to send and receive ambiguous messages. Vague thinking leads them to make ambiguous or confusing word-choices in their communications with others. They should make clarity of expression a primary goal, for otherwise they will be prone to being misunderstood or misrepresented by others. This aspect lends itself to effective communication through suggestion, allusion, or metaphor. The natives develop the ability to communicate indirectly, on subtle levels. The aspect may be useful to people in the entertainment industry, especially actors, musicians, and creative writers. The imagemaking ability conferred by this aspect is excellent for poetry, advertising, or other work in the media. The natives have mystical feelings that they might be able to use in religious or spiritual pursuits. They have the ability to get others to accept obligations, which could be harnessed in charitable work. Venus inconjunct Neptune The theme here is love vs. obligation. These natives are learning to accept relationship commitments, make their desires clearer and express their inspirations in creative fashion. They are challenged to overcome self-doubt, resist escapist tendencies, and avoid ambivalence in their affections. This aspect indicates a kind and sympathetic nature. The natives are often gifted with empathy. Their charismatic natures permit them to soothe and comfort others with their presence. They tend to have strong mystical leanings and are attracted to the spiritual and intangible. The idealistic nature expresses itself in romantic longings. A talent for creative imagination allows them to inspire others with new images. Natives tend to be very confused and deluded when it comes to relationships. They feel unlovable and unattractive. Some natives take great pains to improve their looks with an overdose of cosmetics, while others do nothing to enhance their appearance. Most of the natives have problems with self-doubt and need constant reassurance from others. They have a driving need to be liked by everyone, which causes them to react to any nuance of displeasure with despair. This makes them vulnerable to the vicissitudes of others’ feelings. They may, therefore, attract people who prey upon their vulnerability by withholding love or appreciation, or granting it conditionally. These natives may go to great lengths to win others over, including acceptance of obligation or need for self-sacrifice. Self-doubt is manifested in their ambivalent attitudes toward others. Their uncertainty and indecision cause problems in communication involved with giving and receiving ambivalent messages. The natives are often fickle in their affections. Unrealistic desire induces them to pursue those who would deny them love and avoid those who would love them. They must be careful to avoid attracting people who might profess “love” for them for ulterior reasons. This aspect indicates problems over self-worth related to confusion and illusion. The natives find it hard to realistically assess their own value. They attract people who confuse them even further with ambivalent messages. Self-doubt causes their shaky self-esteem to vacillate in response to the feelings of others. Their tentative and uncertain nature seeks reassurance from others. They may seek to win sympathy rather than make straightforward demands on others, which creates problems for them when it comes time for them to bargain or barter their services. They don’t put much value on money, or have

much ability to use it wisely. Therefore they find it difficult to set appropriate fees for their services, settling for IOUs instead. Ultimately this may make others resent them, for no one likes to feel obligated, especially for things which aren’t clearly defined and spelled out. The natives tend strongly to escapism, because of which they have a rich fantasy life. This can impede real fulfillment for them. Their daydreams about love cause them to harbor unrealistic expectations about others. An absentminded nature may subvert productive effort. Some natives turn to drugs or alcohol for release from the pressures of daily life. They should instead turn to music or meditation for the same purpose. This aspect gives an ability to enjoy art, music, photography, dance, and poetry. The natives often have talent for writing or for the theater. Many of them find fulfillment in the cosmetic industry. Their talent for imagery often finds lucrative expression in the advertising industry. Many have a strong talent for healing, thanks to their interest in and sympathy for others. Some have talent for fund-raising, or find satisfaction in spiritual pursuits. More mundane outlets for their escapist tendencies might be work as bartenders or travel agents. Mars inconjunct Saturn The theme of this aspect is responsible action. These natives are learning to be patient, realistic, and thorough in their activities. They are challenged to overcome inhibition, to take more risks and to avoid pessimism. This aspect is an indicator of activity influenced by a burdensome sense of responsibility. These natives want acknowledgement for their efforts, especially from authority figures. The need to be taken seriously causes them to act with discipline and restraint. They approach tasks pragmatically and prefer conservative solutions to problems. Hard work and acceptance of responsibility becomes the means for proving their maturity. Unfortunately this attracts immature and irresponsible people, some of whom are authority figures, who create hardships by shirking their responsibilities. Therefore these natives may become so bogged down by other people’s burdens that they have no time or energy to attend to their own projects. Responsibility thus either straitjackets them or forces them to act against their own desires. These natives may sometimes be thrown into challenging situations without warning or preparation because of others’ shortcomings. They learn on the job and develop practical, economical methods of doing things. If they aren’t careful, they may wind up instructing superiors, who then claim the credit for themselves. The Mars-Saturn inconjunct indicates a tendency toward restrained aggression. These natives have strong control over their passions. They can be determined, persistent, and very set in their ways. There is a tendency to simmer and stew rather than to express their anger openly. They are hard to provoke but can explode when frustration becomes too much for them. A weakness for jealousy and vengefulness can lead them to violence. They set limits, draw the line and issue ultimata. Many natives, however, don’t even have this explosive outlet for their passions. Not only do they avoid expressing anger, but they also fear competition and retreat from challenge. They either become chronic complainers or develop serious illnesses – and with her Mars also in the 6th house, illness is very likely for her as a result of this. There may be a hindrance of activity due to obstruction and delay. The natives seem to be plagued by bad timing. They either jump into things prematurely or are slow to take initiative. Some natives act first and repent later, while others rue their lack of action. Most, however, worry too much and lose options because they hesitate too long. Many of these people feel hampered by tradition and discouraged by high standards. They often have to endure interminable delays before they can act, and are forced by circumstances to develop patience and plan their actions carefully. This inconjunct may be useful in highly discipline pursuits such as dancing or mastering a musical instrument. The natives’ ability to apply themselves physically may find application in manual labor, carpentry, gardening, auto mechanics, et. Those with white-collar jobs might be in engineering or metallurgy, or pursue activity at home such as attending to home repair. The ability to attend to detail can find useful application in graphic design. This aspect may also be used in work-planning and development of efficiency and economy in procedures. Mars inconjunct Uranus The theme here is independent action. Natives are learning to act quickly, assert their independence, and develop original methodologies. They are challenged to avoid impulsiveness, be less rebellious, and stop provoking others.

This aspect indicates a misuse of physical powers related to feelings of anxiety. These natives have very strong feelings about being special in a physical way. They have high energy-levels which demand practical channels of expression. Many types have difficulty finding suitable outlets for their energies. They come to fear their aggressive urges and project a docile façade, and can be reluctant to take initiative or assert themselves. Violence may be feared, and there may be difficulty expressing anger. Sexual inhibition may be present. Natives can be perversely rebellious or passively aggressive. They can also be intellectually aggressive. They try to prove that they are exceptional through hard work and diligence, but may have to live with anxiety. Other natives use their energy quite differently, acting quickly and spontaneously. Rashness, impatience, and lack of forethought tend to make them accidentprone. They accept challenges and try to prove their strength and courage. Promiscuity may be a way for them to prove their sexual prowess. There may be difficulty in tolerating frustration; they may resort to force to accomplish their ends. They can also be abusive in relationships. Natives tend to have a compulsion to act in unconventional ways. Natives take original or unique approaches to tasks, wanting to do things their own way and experiment with new methods. Trouble is encountered with conservative people who treat new procedures with suspicion. These natives are often forced to defend themselves against accusations of eccentricity. They feel pressured to conform to traditional methods and must be prepared to accept derisive criticism if they resist. They have little choice in the matter, however, for submission stifles their individuality. Natives approach problems in a way different from others, seeking root causes instead of merely attending to symptoms. This upsets others because it challenges their basic ways of doing things. Natives are therefore compelled to act independently without support or understanding from others. Often they are the only ones with the courage to act. Those natives who conform and act conventionally attract unconventional or rebellious types. They are thus forced to stabilize the turmoil created by their opponents. There may be an irrepressible rebellious streak which often manifests as erratic or unreliable behavior. Many natives secretly wish to shock or upset others with their actions or initiative. They distrust authority, and assert themselves by rebelling at every opportunity to do so. Erratic behavior becomes a way of rebellion, but the price of this is loss of effectiveness due to inconsistency and shortlived impulses. These natives resist discipline because they see it as oppressive. This puts them in a double bind because they need discipline to excel. This inconjunct indicates a need for outlets for aggression such as competitive sports. These natives might excel in creative fields, or find satisfaction in redesigning outmoded procedures. Their aggression may find suitable and useful outlets in police work, the military, firefighting, etc. Their rebellious streak can be turned to good use in trade-union work. The planetary symbolism involved with this placement suggests that this energy, tempered with patience, can find suitable expression in psychic work, healing, acupuncture, dentistry, or surgery. Mars inconjunct Neptune The theme here is imaginative action. The natives are learning to define tasks, fulfill commitments, and develop motivating ideals. They are challenged to be more direct, overcome self-doubt, and avoid escapist tendencies. This aspect indicates a tendency to inaction due to indecisiveness and uncertainty. The natives want to engage in creative, imaginative work, but don’t know how to do so on a practical basis. Their openness to new possibilities permits them to experiment with new procedures, but lack of consistency undermines their effectiveness. Many natives have difficulty making decisions, because their ambivalence and self-doubt preclude initiative and inhibit action. Vacillation misdirects or scatters their energies and causes confusion. Self-doubt leads them to question their own powers and seek reassurance from others, which induces people to lose confidence in them. Some natives confuse instructions and misunderstand procedures. Others make false starts and have difficulty sticking to a method. Vacillation and inattentiveness cause unnecessary complexity. Most natives are too easily distracted from their efforts and seem weak or irresolute. They swing from assertion to passivity, and from self-reliance to passive dependency. They need to focus their energies and persevere in order to act effectively or accomplish anything. This aspect indicates a tendency to act in accordance with romantic or fanciful ideas. The natives tend to indulge in heroic or romantic fantasies which have no realistic basis. An attraction to utopian ideals spurs many of them to action, but ultimately they are defeated and disillusioned because there is no substance to those ideals. Many natives have a tendency to act on unfounded beliefs; projects begun this way usually turn out to be impractical. The natives must therefore learn to analyze the practicality of

projects before beginning work on them. Some natives act or refrain from action on the basis of imagined threats or deluded ideas. Irrational fears may cause them to strike out against others. Other natives attract deluded or irrational people who may strike out against them. The unrealistic activities of some natives border on self-destructiveness. They think of themselves as martyrs, when in fact they are more likely masochists. Natives may have major concerns with avoidance of escapism and fulfillment of commitment. They must be careful, for daydream and fantasy may replace action, and inattention cause accidents. Some natives tend to be absentminded, forgetful of methods and procedures, while others dissipate their energies via substance abuse, sexual addiction, or escapist pursuits. The more mature natives come to take commitments seriously and act accordingly. The problem is that they may take it too seriously. They tend to get tied up in obligations which hamper their freedom of action. Some are forced to act against their desires, while others are required to avoid action. The net effect, however, is the same for both: loss of personal freedom through voluntary acceptance of burdensome responsibilities. They must learn to say NO, and stick to it, or they will be easy prey for others who take advantage of their sympathetic natures. This aspect endows natives with creative inspiration and the ability to act imaginatively. The natives possess a natural sense of the rhythms of activity and a latent talent for visualizing movement. Because of this they may excel at dance, choreography, or sports. The average native might find satisfaction in the release of tension via jogging, swimming, folk dancing, and similar pursuits. The natives’ ability to anticipate action makes them good tacticians or strategists. Some may do well as coaches, others at event-scheduling. Some natives may find their niche in volunteer work, counseling, or fund-raising. In some cases, natives may make good naval officers. Mars inconjunct Pluto The theme here is transformative action, the alchemy of experience. Natives are learning to analyze activity, revise procedures, and use diplomacy. They are challenged to avoid obsessive activity, to overcome the temptation to prove themselves, and to be less set in their ways. This aspect indicates a hard-working and persistent nature. Natives can be persevering but are sometimes merely stubborn and rigid. Compulsiveness keeps them constantly busy, but they can be very set in their ways. They are attracted to agendas, and like to follow well-defined procedures. Inflexibility makes it difficult to adapt to new situations. Natives rigidly apply preprogrammed methods even though those methods may be inappropriate. An obsession with work makes it difficult for them to take a rest. The desire to prove themselves through hard work permits others to manipulate them into accepting difficult or unpleasant tasks. Many of these types have difficulty initiating new projects because they dwell upon past activities. Other types find it difficult to work cooperatively and get into power struggles with colleagues or superiors. The key to effectiveness is flexibility and adaptability, and it is important for them to learn openness to new methods and procedures. Natives have a powerful need to prove themselves physically. They are attracted to or fascinated by strength and power. Some become obsessed with developing physical prowess and demonstrating courage. They are men of action who make assertion and initiative a way of life. They become diehard competitors who cannot accept defeat. Their obsession with winning makes it difficult for them to back down or retreat even when they are wrong. A need to prove their daring makes them easy prey for people who manipulate them via challenge. The natives can’t stand to be thwarted, and can become violent when frustrated. Anger and intimidation become manipulative tools for maintaining their dominance. Promiscuity may be a way for them to prove their sexual prowess, and violent abuse a means of maintaining dominance in relationships. Other natives, however, repress and come to fear their aggressive urges. They can’t seem to act, take initiative, or compete. They repress their sexuality and fear violence, and may attract aggression, violence, or abuse if they aren’t careful. They must learn to express anger appropriately, for inhibition may cause health problems such as depression, headaches, backaches, hemorrhoids, or colitis. There may be a resistance to change due to a fear of uncertainty. These natives seem to be motivated by a powerful fear of the unknown. They like the status quo, and go out of their way to frustrate change. They can be unyielding and doctrinaire about procedures. Activities are planned carefully, and they try to anticipate all eventualities. These natives want to know what to expect so that they can be forearmed. They want to know how others will act, so they can preprogram their reactions accordingly in advance. This hidebound behavior spills over into relationships of all kinds They try to control and dominate others in order to ward off unexpected attacks. Their need to be absolutely certain

of people makes such people want to know everything about others’ activities, which others find oppressive, and which has the effect of driving them away. This inconjunct develops a great deal of energy which demands a suitable outlet. Suitable avenues of expression make take the form of physical labor such as carpentry, gardening, athletics, mountain climbing, etc. The law or the military might be a way of utilizing this energy for one’s career. Healing, medicine, or X-ray analysis may be others ways. This aspect also finds application in motivational research, work planning, analysis of methodology, or psychology. Jupiter inconjunct Saturn The theme here is prudence. These natives are learning to assess situations realistically, perfect management skills, and allow opportunities to develop. They are challenged to stop trying to impress people, overcome pessimism, and develop a sense of humor. This aspect indicates a sensitive and discriminating nature. The natives have a serious demeanor and a conservative philosophy. They have problems understanding when to be generous and when to be frugal. A respect for realism and balance is eventually developed. They learn to weigh opportunities carefully and to test the water before taking the plunge. During life they gain control over the gambling instinct and learn how to handle themselves in confrontational situations. They are thirsty for experience and knowledge, and must learn patience in order to gain these. They come into their own late in life. This aspect indicates a desire to make a mature and responsible impression on others. The natives want to be respected, especially by authorities. They want acknowledgement from important people of their maturity and responsibility. Their need to make an imposing impression may lead them to exaggerate their own authority. Their refusal to risk compromise of their dignity may make them pompous. They sometimes use generosity to purchase respect, and are helpful to people with burdens, especially financial ones. They feel oppressed by others’ expectations. They do favors for people who don’t respect them, and may sometimes lose respect by making promises they can’t fulfill. Due to poor timing or lack of perspective, the natives may lack the ability to take advantage of opportunities. They can be mistakenly optimistic or needlessly pessimistic. They may have problems due to lack of sociability or fear of competition, and become rigid, legalistic, or lacking in spontaneity due to lack of perspective. They tend to underrate themselves and misjudge opportunities. Sometimes, however, it is others who underestimate the natives’ experience or ability to handle responsibility. The natives may miss out on opportunities due to inexperience or bad timing. They expand when they should withdraw, or retreat when they should advance. They must learn to wait for opportunities to develop, and learn to manage resources more realistically, for swings between miserliness and excess make them penny-wise and pound-foolish. The natives are likely to have problems in relationships due to defensiveness and self-limitation. They can’t seem to get close to others because they fear restriction and loss of freedom. Fear of criticism leads them to be critical, and fear of abandonment makes them avoid closeness. Lack of faith makes it hard for them to compete socially. Time and distance seem to intrude in their relationships. Responsibility and lack of time are the excuses they use to avoid intimacy. Sometimes, however, they avoid intimacy by associating with people who are too busy or too distant to be close. They must learn to loosen up and take themselves far less seriously, for their inability to laugh at themselves hinders their ability to form healthy relationships with others. Ultimately this inconjunct makes the natives develop business acumen based upon patience, pragmatism, and realistic assessment. Eventually they become skilled at management and administration. They learn to temper risk with caution, which can make them good executives. They may also become excellent teachers, especially if they can learn to take themselves less seriously, accept limitations, and see the humor in life. Jupiter inconjunct Uranus He has Jupiter inconjunct Uranus. The theme here is rugged individualism. The natives are learning to encourage individualism, crate new opportunities, and provoke the reassessment of basic assumptions. They are challenged to stop trying to impress others, develop close personal relationships, and overcome the impulse to be disruptive. Natives believe in fair play and equal opportunity, and want people to be free and independent. They think for themselves, and see the word from a different perspective than most do. Their unique

approach to problems yields original ideas which may be turned to profit. They can be impulsively expansive and show generosity by surprising people with sudden gifts to magnanimous gestures. This aspect may indicate a powerful need to make a shocking or upsetting impression. Natives can be rebellious or iconoclastic. They may have an independent philosophy or a unique moral code. While unusual subjects interest them, they attract friends who belittle new ideas or concepts. They like to play devil’s advocate and delight in puncturing the arguments of the orthodox. Their thinking represents a search for truth at the root level. They threaten others because they seek to tear down façades, and as a result they pay the price of being derided and attacked for it. The Jupiter-Uranus quincunx indicates a battle between conformity and independence. Natives have a strong sense of individualism and independence, but feel pressured to conform to avoid competitive disadvantage. Other people frequently misjudge them, exaggerate their eccentricities and deny them opportunities. They also lose opportunities through their own rebellious and inconsistent behavior. They use their money to support rebellious or independent projects, and may waste money in support of an exaggeratedly individualistic life style. Ultimately they are forced to curb their excesses or risk loss of independence. They feel overwhelmed by the expectations of others and may fail in order to evade this pressure. They also need to be careful not to compromise their independence through excessive generosity. Many with this aspect yield to social pressure and develop conventional lifestyles, becoming conservative but still attracting rebellious, inconsistent, or eccentric people. They have to manage things for erratic or undisciplined people and wind up being conservative anomalies. This ultimately makes them stands out as nonconformists. Difficulties in relationship due to fear of attachment are indicated. A strong independent streak makes it difficult for these natives to cooperate in relationships. The need for freedom and nonattachment makes intimacy difficult. They worry about being suddenly abandoned, but may themselves suddenly abandon people or projects. They think abstractly but impersonally, and find it hard to understand others on an emotional level. They tend to be cold and impersonal in relationships, and are reluctant to reveal the softer side of their natures. They become involved with people living far away, which precludes the possibility of intimacy. They may behave erratically and irresponsibly, another impediment to closeness. Their relationships may ultimately become entirely intellectual in nature, with no involvement of the body or emotions. This quincunx can be useful for people who have to think independently or work with extremely independent people. It may be applicable in creative management and the administration of unusual projects. It can be useful for producers who must work with creative but unreliable people. Natives might become designers who develop novel approaches to their work. They might utilize their desire to defend unpopular causes in the service of law, becoming excellent lawyers. Paul has his Jupiter inconjunct his Neptune. The theme here is social conscience. Natives are learning to accept obligations, fulfill commitments, and evaluate creative inspiration. They are challenged to develop faith, avoid ambivalence, and overcome escapist tendencies. Natives have a generous, sympathetic, and encouraging nature. They have philosophical leanings and a strong moral code which emphasizes fulfillment of commitments. They can be generous in support of religious or spiritual causes, or be attracted by the glamour of status, or may seek to creative impressive images. This quincunx indicates problems related to confusion and escapism. Natives can be over-concerned with image and façade. They may indulge in fantasies of success but lack faith in their own resources. They are beset by ambivalence and self-doubt. A need for reassurance eventually causes others to doubt their capabilities. Natives can sometimes be gullible, indulging in wishful thinking, daydreams, or fantasies. Therefore realistic assessment has little chance against self-delusion. Natives can tell exaggerated stories or confuse people with contradictory statements. Vagueness and inattention can be used as a strategy to avoid commitments. Some natives waste money and resources on escapist pursuits or on drugs. Most, however, try hard to be practical and make a goal of realistic assessment of circumstances, for they realize that uncertainty, self-doubt, and vacillation are their chief obstacles to success. The Jupiter-Neptune quincunx indicates problems related to fulfillment of commitments. Natives express generosity by accepting obligations, making promises they cannot fulfill. They may commit themselves to projects and then lose interest. These types feel obliged to live up to others’ expectations. People take their generosity for granted and commit them to financial obligations. Some natives learn to avoid commitments and collect debts, instead, by voluntarily doing favors. They master the politics of guilt and learn how to make people feel obligated. Natives may have difficulties related to lack of perspective and bad judgment. They tend to

midjudge themselves and others. They send and receive double messages and misread others’ intentions. Too often their relationships are based on misunderstandings. They attract confused or disorganized people whom they have to assist. They misjudge their own importance, either overestimating or belittling themselves. They become self-destructive through lack of confidence, because they jeopardize opportunities through ambivalence or vacillation. Frequently they fail to recognize opportunities at hand. They have a tendency to place faith in others unwisely. Romantic idealism precludes a realistic assessment of partners, and an excessive need for freedom makes it difficult to get close to others. These natives seem to attract fickle or escapist partners who abandon them in time of need. Eventually they must learn to see others as they are and accept them for what they are. This quincunx develops an ability to work with and organize creative projects. Natives may become accomplished at managing creative projects. The aspect may be useful in commercial art or advertising. Eventually natives may come to excel as art directors or producers. Other vocational possibilities for this aspect include philosophy, law, religion, fund-raising, or promotion. Jupiter inconjunct Pluto The theme here is analytical perspective. Natives are learning to analyze potential, see things in perspective, and take advantage of uncertainty. They are challenged to overcome obsessiveness, forego dogmatic attitudes, and stop trying to impress people. This aspect indicates an expansive and encouraging disposition. Natives have a generous nature which induces them to help others. Their inability to say now, however, encourages people to seek favors from them without end. They possess a strong urge for freedom, which makes them resist being pigeonholed. They have excellent analytic minds and a talent for research and analysis. There may be a powerful need to impress people. These natives tend to be over-concerned with the good opinions of others. A need to be treated with dignity causes them to be upright, but this sometimes degenerates into self-righteous pomposity. Eventually they learn to create an impressive façade. Their social ability is directly related to their financial stability. Therefore money becomes the key to social success. They either live well below their means, in a sort of voluntary poverty, or well beyond it. Either way, they tend to cling to privileges, which turn out to be disadvantages. Many of them suffer from poor social perspective. Inability to assess themselves and others in a realistic fashion causes them to misjudge people. Fear of being underrated by others sometimes causes them to boast or exaggerate. Lack of faith in their own abilities causes them to issue unnecessary disclaimers. They have a strong drive for success, but fear of failure keeps them from taking the risks that lead to success. They must learn to take advantage of opportunities as they present themselves; but in order to do this, they must forego the need for guarantees and the desire to maintain dignity at all costs. The Jupiter-Pluto quincunx indicates a rigid and dogmatic nature which betrays a fear of uncertainty. Natives can be obsessive and unspontaneous. Their need for certainty causes them to try to live according to agendas. An inability to adjust to new circumstances makes it difficult for them to take advantage of unexpected opportunities. They can be legalistic, dogmatic, or orthodox. A conservative nature induces them to cling to the past; a tendency to substitute philosophy for life experience impedes their ability to learn and grow. Some natives develop a doctrinaire philosophical attitude which cannot tolerate opposition. Others take it upon themselves to challenge or reform dogma. Both eventually learn to integrate new experience with tried and proven ways, and come to accept their vulnerability in a world of uncertainty and change. Difficulty in developing intimate relationships is indicated. These natives have strong escapist tendencies when it comes to emotional commitment. The need for elbow room and fear of attachment makes them retreat when others approach. They have poor judgment when selecting potential partners, and are often attracted to people who are either indisposed or unavailable for relationship. Opportunities for involvement are forsaken and potential partners are abandoned before being given a chance. They also involve themselves with people who abandon them without warning. Inability to tolerate uncertainty makes them interrogate people about every aspect of their lives, which ultimately is oppressive and drives others away. This quincunx ultimately develops analytical management ability, which might be useful in supervisory positions. These natives might excel at sales, advertising, or diplomacy. Other vocational avenues include teaching, psychology, acting, or investment analysis.
