Herb Wehmeyer Tells His Story

Herb was born in Rosebud. MO –
(population 286) and attended a one
room school. He served in the Marine
Corp before moving to the bay area in
1957. He spent 32 years in life and
health insurance sales. His interests
include golf and travel – he played golf
in both Australia and New Zealand.
Herb was invited by a neighbor to join
Rotary after retirement. He especially
remembers celebrating Oktoberfest at
Rotary – with lederhosen and a
traditional German meal.

Our only guest this week was our
speaker, Lori Fogarty, the Executive
Director of the Oakland Museum.

Shelterbox Foundation where the club

Baptist Church of Martinez.

Treasurer Lad Lynch reports that we are close to $75K in contributions. Barbara Bruner arranged a photo opportunity with staff and students from Rheem Elementary to help publicize our School Magazines Project. Our condolences for your loss. All are invited. Maureen Kang. again. Zack Seidler.~PLAYGROUND REPORT~ Contributions are going well towards our goal of raising $250K. and chairman Frank May announced that a meeting will be held on Monday. The lucky raffle ticket worth $10 was held by Evie Michon. he spent the day travelling back to St. Elani True. A Note From the Editor Lori Fogarty Chatting With John and Debbie Before the Meeting Today The Oakland Museum was founded in 1969. It is now a non-profit organization with strong ties to the city. They described how the Time and National Geographic magazines that we contribute are used by students both at home and in the classroom. Ann Ralph. Ann talked about lesson plans and video resources that are available as supplements to the magazines themselves. I think that we are making a real difference with this donation supporting our schools!! Frank May . These include:  “All Power to ther People” – the 50th anniversary of the Black Panther Partry  “Out of the Box – The Rise of the Sneaker Culture”  “Of Dogs and Other People” featuring the work of Roy De Forest  “Politics of Seeing” by Dorothea Lange. It started as a department in the City of Oakland. I had the privilege this week to chat with Rheem Elementary School principal Elaine Frank and third grade teacher. Warriors Pride and California Natural History. The museum recently went through a major renovaton and has over two million items in its collection. Lori also discussed wanting to open up the museum campus to the community.~~PROGRAM~~ Our speaker today was Lori Fogarty. Lori talked about the important contribution of the White Elephant Sale to the overall museum’s $15 milion annual budget. She was introduced by Debbie Roessler. She ended by talking about other programs including a Friday Night community event and school programs. Lori reviewed major current and future exhibits that are featured in the museum. the Executive Director of the Oakland Museum. Lori then described the permanent galleries in the museum including the galleries of California History. a longtime volunteer at the museum.
